  • Check out the all new Woodford Charlton.
Like a car manufacturers first sports car, a modern freestanding "Scandinavian" style stove is an important moment for a stove manufacturer. I'm excited to give this one a go!

Hi Gabriel. Looking forward to you lighting this up and your review (as a HETAS installation engineer, a more affordable stove like this one that can be installed into flat roof extensions at a 45 degree angle, with good clearance to combustibles to the side and rear is one that is often requested by customers). You recently reviewed the Ecosy Hampton 5 as a budget stove - if you can get one from stove world UK, could you try to review the Ecost i500 16" x 22" inset stove ? -again, a cheaper inset stove (for replacing gas/ electric insets) are often requested. Thanks

Lovely looking stove. Presume curved glass a lot more expensive to replace? The physicality of the latch type looks great but the first part needing replaced due to wear? Oh and do test a stove fan - they do work well on my convection stove, as the gurus advise blowing air onto the flue not sucking it away. Great unboxing, even if the silver mit looks like a Space 1999 extra from the 70's!

Curved glass is quite costly, but the glove was great 😆

Side subject. Do u prefer kiln dried or seasoned wood?

Not worried at all, you just ideally want to get it around or below 15%. If you achieve that, then it’s perfect regardless. In terms of price I would always pick wet wood and dry it myself, because you can often burn for free if you’re willing to do a bit of chopping and stacking.

@@TheTortoise I read somewhere that wet wood isn’t allowed to be sold now??
Also. Having a chimney built as the home I live in has a pre cast grade 2 chimney ( crap ) I’ve been told to build in metal stud with fire board an have a twin lined flu system installed. In the housing for the stove not better to be built in brick as to retain the heat??? Can’t help but feel to build a false chimney from boards and stud work is to create a huge cavity surrounding the stove. Almost takes away from the purpose of a stove

Wet wood can be sold in larger amounts as it is assumed that you will dry it yourself. Smaller amounts must be dry as it is implied that it will be used imminently.
In terms of construction, building out of masonry is vastly more costly and more time consuming. Metal stud and cement board is quick and easy, and the key thing with modern appliances is that they drive heat into the room very effectively, so you shouldn’t be losing by having a simpler construction.

This looks very interesting. The material on the internet says it has a distance of only 5 cm to combustibles which seems very small. I know it's 5 kw rated but do you think it can get up to 7 kw or so? Love your reviews 👍

I've got one of these stoves. It's 20cm distance to combustibles to the sides and 5cm to the rear. These distances came in useful for positioning our stove near to kitchen cabinets. Not many other stoves in this style at that price point offer such a small distance.

@@guysidebottom73 that's really helpful thanks, what do you think the upper limit of output is? My space is about 10m x 5m I'm thinking it may be a touch under powered.

It does seem a bit under powered for that size space. How old is the house?

@@andrewkeen7828 our space is approx 6x6m with a vaulted ceiling. Running at optimum temp it is more than adequate but we never intended to run as the sole heat source, it compliments the central heating. Your space is significantly larger so if planning on using just the stove for heat I would probably go for something with a higher output.

@@TheTortoise thanks for replying, the main house is 1930s but this specific space was an extension built about 2000 or so. It runs across the back of the house, which faces south.
