    Wow this worked!! After unsuccessfully trying to remove the stripped crank with a 3-jaw and then with a 2-jaw gear puller I was about to give up. I then saw your video and instead of using an allen key between floorboards as you did, i made a small modification. I have used the inner piston of my original threaded crank pulling tool (the inner part which normally pushes against the bottom bracket at the centre of the crank arm). I Placed the piston at the centre of the crank arm, leaned my bike flat on it on my garage concrete floor, used my rubber hammer and wacked the pedal arm (right hand side) as hard as I could about 5 times - it came off! Unbelievable! Thank you so much

      What also works is to ride the bike until the cranks fall off by themselves. If one is staying on, use this method. Easier on your tools!

    i also ever have same problem, what i do is to loosen the crank bolt about 4 full turn and ride it hard until i can see it moving out slightly, then i use jaw puller to finish the job, this method i think is more gentle for the BB and frame, i did that because the jaw puller is not work for the first attempt in my case it's most probably the crankarm bolt installed too tightly in the factory

  • @ejimenez365
    @ejimenez365 3 роки тому +12

    The puller stripped the threads. Looks like you had the adapter too wide pushing on the arm and not the axle. You can clearly see the arm is damaged because of user error with a puller.

    • @colequigley9859
      @colequigley9859 3 роки тому +3

      Its also a possibility that they didn't completely tighten the puller in, it is critical to use a crescent wrench to firmly tighten down the crank puller in the crank, if you just do it hand tight, then even the slightest of a stuck crank will just result in you ripping out the threads like is shown here

      Used the octatlink adapter, can see the round mark it left on the crank.

      can you do it on a bike stand instead of cycling? how many times do you have to pedal?

    • @sarangparmar9785
      @sarangparmar9785 2 роки тому +1

      @@rafaelfresnosa8942 Nop not on bike stand you can't put pressure on pedal while peddling on bike stand you have to ride until you feel it's coming off after that if you have striking screwdriver use hammer it will come off

    Oh my !!!!! I tried with a puller and couldn't pull it out. With this method, it worked. Crankarm has no serious damage other than some marks. I now can put my Bafang BBS02.

    The head on the crank puller you used is too large, you can see where it was driving into the edges of the square hole in the crank. You need a square taper crank puller, or the park tool with a smaller drive disc.

    I used an angle grinder, taking care not to grind too much of the spline. I cut straight across, and diagonally up from under the arm, around the 3 accessible sides. Your way sounds easier for those who can prop their hex wrench.

      Don't know why you would want to reuse a crank arm with cooked threads anyway. In that case, just leave it on.

    Take a cold chisel and place it between the crank arm and bb shell. Whack the chisel with a hammer and it's off. This works with type 2 spindles where nobody has the right tool anymore.

    • @TheRivalryDrifting
      @TheRivalryDrifting 4 роки тому +1

      It won't damage the threads as long as you use a big enough Allen key

  • @vin17flores72
    @vin17flores72 3 місяці тому

    You need to remove the tip of the crank remover tool and try again. You have obviously tried removing the crank arm without removing the tip which is obviously by the marks on the internal thread of the arm has just pressed them off

  • @toddsmithselbow1732
    @toddsmithselbow1732 3 роки тому +1

    If you didn't cook the threads completely and just ruined the first few to where the puller won't bite and spins out. You might be able to grease the shit out of them with a ton of grease to get past them, turning the puller with a adjustable spanner. Used to do it all the time to people who hardly screwed the puller in and pulled out a few threads.

    • @jp569
      @jp569 4 роки тому

      Vinh Do - you slow down and check (wiggle pedal with your foot, if it moves then coming loose) to avoid damage. If you just ride like crazy until it falls off then maybe they will be some damage to crank and yourself, but on square taper you can get away with quite a lot of damage I would think.
