Oooh, nice and cold! I haven’t had to boil up snow since Antarctica. Always best to get a bit of water boiling and melt snow down into that. Great video as always Tom 👍

Hi Jamie, to be honest I have never lost my child hood fascination with it. Out camping in it listening to it slide down the fly sheet is pure bliss. I actually dont want to sleep in case is miss a second of the experience... I am ready for the next one and hope to do two nights.... Super fluffy dry snow up that way today and plenty of it.
The clouds did clear for a short time before coming in again. It's definitely a nice part of the world and it's lovely to see it being enjoyed responsibly.

Nice cold snowy camp with toasty inside tent action. The fjallraven looked solid I must say. 👍 I’m concerned though Tom. You do know about the dangers of carbon monoxide from burning gas to keep warm? I mentioned it in one of my videos. I heard of a wildcamper passed away in his tent due to CO2. I’m sure you’re aware and took all the precautions. You may want to mention it though. You may save lives.

@@TOMHEANEY100 aye I’m out lots but it’s hard man. Hard. 😂 I need a weather break. I think us wildmen should raise awareness of the dangers as well as the good bits. One of these days I’ll be on to you about where to camp over there 🇮🇪 👍

Have to say I always love your videos - both entertaining and informative. I'm heading up into the Mournes with a mate in the first week of Feb. I normally stay in and around Fermanagh but it will be great to see and experience your side of the country.

Brilliant Tom! You got such great snow to play in 😎🎉 It looked fab! Sounds like you got loads of sleep even with the cold - I would never get that amount of sleep a night, even when toasty. Here's hoping I find some snow in Wicklow tomorrow night - I'll be on the hunt 🤞

Somehow I don't think Big Agnes can solve for the sleep rhythms of women of a certain age 😇 I'll let you know if I find some white fluffy snow tomorrow!!

Yea you either love snow and frozen temperature camping or you hate it there's no in-between I love it and having decent gear helps

Great film, Tom. That summit is a great spot and really accessible. Would love to have the flexibility to get up there more often. I’m really enjoying your style of filming now, the more interactive, adventure style, it’s very watchable.
How did the other Hilleberg handle the weather, it looks like a great tent as well.
Hi Phil great to hear from you once again.. Yeah that's a great summit for sure.. More snow on the way up actually as the snow gets blown off the summits to some extent. I was using the Fjallraven Abisko again and the other tent was a Hilleberg Kaitum 2. Both tents had no real challenge as it wasn't really windy. My videos have got good views recently so that's inspiring me to do more.. I have some reviews to get done so will have to leave the camping for 10 days or so. One is a review of the Ledlenser H19 r signature which you will enjoy... Once again thank you for your comments and support over the years.. ATB Tom

Nice one Tom! I liked the snow collection idea, was it not just a lump of concrete in the morning? It's a shame you did not get more snow, just that thin skim, I mean, you could barely call it snow really, haha!
Yes it was. Actually less on the summits due to the wind blowing it into drifts and exposed more to the sun than the North Facing slopes on the walk in... I'll get it next time though. Might try for a trip to the Cairngorms this winter. Snow was ok in the morning too not concrete.. ATB and appreciate your comments.. Hope you get out soon in the Storm ⚡⭐💫

You got your snow Tom! Great to see it, the Mournes are amazing in the snow and as you say, hard to beat camping in it. Last time I done it I had great craic trying to light the Trangia, a learning experience for sure😂 How was the Firepot Bolognese, any good, would you recommend it?

Curious about how the Abisko Lite 2 compares to the Kaitum. Also what volume is that 3FUL backpack and how do you find it?
Hey Marco, thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it 😊... Yes more testing of the Kaitum and Abisko in the near future for sure... The 3FUL pack is 56 litre internal volume..It's the Quidan Pro. I love it actually and prefer it over my Granite Gear Blaze 60... No ventilation or rigidity but so light and actually very comfortable. Well featured too and the open netting at the front stores so much gear as do the big hip belt and side pockets.. It's a steal at the price.. I will be reviewing it very soon.. ATB Tom

Hi Tom. How would u say the Kaitum is holding up? I saw reviews stating the kaitum zippers fails after about 60 nights. What is your thoughts on this?
Hi I am afraid I can't answer this as I only ever borrowed a Kaitum for a few nights to review.. Both the owners of Kaitums that I know have never given them heavy use.. I am not saying Hilleberg is perfect but they have a lot of experience making tents. If you look hard enough you will always find something negative about most tents performance wise... Hey thank you for your comments.. About the same as you once in northern Italy.. I brought my petrol stove inside the tent and opened up the vents. The heat lasted a few hours but then it dropped again.. It sure was cold but survived ok and was still fun.. Great to hear of your experience.. ATB Tom
Tommy would my North Face Inferno -20 sleeping bag be overkill in that weather you had??? I paid $ 526 quid!!!!
Hi Tommy it all depends on how much you feel the cold 🥶. My colleague last night had a bag rated to minus 23 and he was glad of it.. I had to sleep in my down jacket... So the inferno would be a bit heavy and bulky but if I had one I'd be taking it for this type of camp. It's an awesome bag... Hope you get to use it soon.. ATB and good to hear from you once again... Why didn’t you use the Hilleberg as it’s a bit more spacious?
Each of us wanted to experience this in our own tents.. When you camp in winter 🥶 the weight you carry really ramps up... The Fjallraven here is spacious for one, strong enough but 1 kg lighter than the Hilleberg.. So it's the weight that is the main reason.. To be fair though I have now sold this tent due to a lack of durability for my type of use... ATB

Very curious about what you will be using to replace the Abisko, or is it that you will be reviewing other 4season tents, and getting rid of the Abisko allows funding for others???
@@tommyg5095 Hi Tommy good to hear from you.. I have sold the Abisko and kept my Hilleberg Akto for a light ish option. I also sold my Nammatj 2 and replaced it with a Jannu... Buying and selling tents is my other hobby,😁😁😂

Hey Tom! Love the videos. This is probably not a relevant question, but as non wild camper aching to get up into the Mournes to camp can I ask your advice? As someone who enjoys their space, will be carrying a lot of photography gear, which would you go for? The Hilleberg Soulo or the Niak? If I double polled the Niak would it be up to sticking the Mournes? Thank you in advance for any help.
Hey Philip, thank you for watching and commenting.... The Mournes are very windy. My friend who was camped here has a Rogen as well as the Kaitum and hardly ever uses it due to the high winds even in summer. If you need to double pole on a regular basis then you have picked the wrong tent. I think it's fair enough double poling a BL tent or RL tent but not a YL tent. That's only my experience of camping in the Mournes. Summits have better views for photography and camping on summits is windy.. So you have worked to out that I would favour the Red Label Soulo. The two pole dome of the Niak leaves fairly large panels unsupported even if you double pole it. The 20d fabric on the fly is also very thin and less durable over the long term than the 30d of the red label Soulo.... I hope that this helps.... Any more thoughts then throw them my way if you wish.... ATB its never an easy choice buying a tent as so many models to choose from and people telling you different things... Tom

I Was allset to buy the Akto as an upgrade, I’m currently using my laser compact 2 in the cheviots and Northumberland and your reviews off this tent have my head battered , On which way to go ! Abisko/Akto
