Just got a brand new mustang and hit a cat in it before making the first payment. It broke some lower parts of the shutter assembly and I’m just wondering If I’d be better off to just take it off instead of replacing it. What benefits does the active shutter give you anyway?
I know you had this up for a year but what if I did this and I have a p05a1 code. CEL isnt displayed on the dash but it’s pops up on my access port. I did remove the shutters to place a race intercooler. What do you think the issue maybe?
What that is is the ecm detecting the louver motor missing or out of range. Unfortunately cobb wont let you turn off the shutters but your tuner can turn off the code. HP tuners lets me go in and turn the louver system off so there is no code triggered.
@@vengence4x1 I think the only way to avoid triggering the code is to remove the flaps only, that way the motor still actuates through its range with a small load. Should be enough to fool the ECU.
@@ice44567 yes you can do that but you will need to have the component from the middle flap that sets the travel limitations for the motor. Another option is to have your tuner set the motor to zero on the tables, or turn it off completely. Because the cvf race intercooler wont fit with the shroud in place. I am working on a way to make that work.
Hopefully your vid helps me get this dumb Cervini grille in, well not really dumb thank you this is the only useful video I could find. Hopefully I don’t get a light! Wish me luck
@@vengence4x1 but it let air pass through it already and helped with aerodynamics and heating the engine up when it first starts up.... The only reason to really take it off is to install a race intercooler
I know what it does, I took it off for a constant uncontrolled flow of air. The mpg improvement is very very small, however when your at the track or racing having this removed greatly improves cooling. Take them off or dont the choice is yours.
Not as much as you think. Like I said remove them or dont, I have my reasons. You do you and ill do me. Have a good day. If you came here to debate, dont because what I do with my car is not up for debate.
This is the most helpful and detailed video out there about this topic, great job, well done.
I waited til mine was open and unplugged the motor without taking the bumper off. Never got a CEL
Great video, wasn't sure how to get the motor out.
Would it be a problem if I just snipped of each fin?
I mean i dont see why not, but that makes removal irreversible.
I plugged my motor back in and zip tied it but I still have a CEL. I think it was the temperature cord I unplugged. What am I supposed to do with it?
You gotta plug the temp sensor back in, you gotta have it. Clear your codes and see if the cel comes back.
@@vengence4x1 what am I supposed to plug it back into? I thought it plugged into the shutter system?
@@vengence4x1 or does it plug back into somewhere behind the bumper? My car has a CEL and it’s running like crap so I think that’s why lol
@@Alex-ws1gv there should have been two plugs on the shutter system. One goes to the shutter motor and one at the bottom going to a air temp sensor.

Faster engine warm up in the northern states when its cold out, and I believe the gas savings is like .05-.25 percent per mile. Remove it!

The code is annoying if you are like me and want nothing triggered seen or unseen, but luckily it wont affect anything.

@@vengence4x1 How do you do that in HP tuners?
Do you still have these shutters? I need to replace mine on my 2015 ecoboost.
Actually I do!
Question, do you get check engine light after removing the active grill shutter?
You get a code but you remove the motor like i showed and plug it in to keep from getting a light.
@@vengence4x1 I did that and still get a code
I did that as well. Plugged the motor back in and still got a check engine light
@@mikegrande2560 well damn
How hard is it to remove the individual fins? If you were to go that route ?
They snap in so not too difficult I wouldnt think
How long does it actually take to remove the bumper?
About 20 mins. Taking your time

Aww man and i was going to make a video doing a grill swap too! Its not bad at all once you get it off.
I have it constantly closing and opening
hello from Germany
What other mods do you have planned for your EcoBoost?
Troy Long idk I just keep rolling in on them! Next is BMR rear subframe kit!
Troy Long also going to pull off the mishimoto intercooler and put it on my other ecoboost and put the cv fab race intercooler on my 2020.
I did that but still get a code
Yes but it will not be a check engine light code. Just a background code.

That’s the one your referring too right

Ty, very useful.
What was the point of removing it? It's suppose to help with mpg
Improve cooling across the radiator and intercooler as well as better airflow to the intake.

After removing and disconnecting everything, now your cooling fans will run full blast each time you turn on the key..
No they kick on and off like normal.
Seems like a positive thing with this ecoboost
If I bring it to you can you remove it for me lol
