    My wifes Fusion just started to over heat everyday to work. I just saw her AGS was closed and not allowing airflow. These things are stupid unless you live in a seasonal place. Here in CA these are just one more thing to fail. I had to force hers open to stop it from over heating. Hers even blocks the intercooler to her turbos too. And I was wondering why her car sometimes was gutless and sometimes felt notmal.

    Holy I haul every day. I get temperatures 219-231 coolant, engine oil pairs up with the coolant, transmission goes to 194F.
    Recently I changed radiator had a crack, changed the thermostat. Next water pump. In the meantime I did bleed the system and burp it. I am still getting hot temperatures. I will remove the grill. I honestly think is a stupid feature. Even though is clever but not close. Is just create too much heat.
    As soon you said when driving on the freeway they closed. That is when the truck goes up hill hits 230's. I run 2018 ram 1500 Tradesman 3.6L.

    So in the winter time, my truck drives great and when I’m on the mountain in the summer, it’s fine. When I drive up the mountain it overheats when it’s over 100°. I’m wondering if this could be the culprit.

    My 1500 doesn't have vents but was considering adding them since 99% of what I drive is on the interstate. Wouldn't it make more sense to just wire in an adjustable fan controller to control the vents? Set the vents to open a few deg. before the fans turn on.

    Ok so I'm just a lady driving this 2019 ram 1500 truck back and forth to work. I'm not building it or modifying it in any way. So over the weekend the check engine light comes on and auto zone checks the code (U11E9) says its "most likely" the grill shutter assembly bc I'm approaching 50k miles. And the part is not available. I'm in a rural County so I don't have to worry about check engine lights for emissions testing, but I need to know if my truck is gonna over heat or what I should do.

    Hello and thank you for the video. If the active grill shutter stops working can we simply replace the actuator to the grill for a new one to make it work again? I don't understand why anyone would want to replace the whole unit when the actuator is solely responsible for opening and closing the grill. I know this video is old but I'm hoping you will answer my question.

    I recently installed a 185 degree thermostat on my 2015 ram still have my mechanical fan but noticed my temp is still climbing especially when towing my trailer. I get that it’s going to climb in temp being under a load while towing but would deleting my shutters help cool the motor better while towing?

      I thought I was the only one having that issue. Coolant & oil tem runs at 219-230. I freaked out when reached 240. I said ooooh hell naaaaa. I change the radiator it had a crack, I changed the thermostat. Next will be water pump. I didn't know my truck had shutters since is basic working truck 2018 Tradesman V6. After I notice why I don't see my radiator then vents opened. First thing I said "ooooooh hell naaaaa who in the FK set that feature, it got to be one idiot, I haul every day". Research to delete this.
      I will order this part. Have you done it? Any cooler?

    I don't think the shutters ars all that great. Maybe a whole 0.4 extra MPG on the highway, and as a mechanic, the never ending concern that the shutter motor will fail in the closed position, and my truck will over heat is enough to make me want too ditch the grille shutters. Lol
    Good job explaining it. People who aren't mechanically inclined would understand! Can't wait to see the supercharger. Just a side note, these 5.7 HEMIs benefit greatly from a big, fat lopey cam. I imagine even more so with a blower.

Going to be doing a more thorough test soon for the channel also and hand calculate the MPG as well. I'll eventually open up the engine and probably do pistons, rods, etc at the same time. For now just sticking with the bolt ons 😁

    Just a quick add to this, from what Ram said back in 2012 when they were discussing these for the 2013 model year, they also work with the air suspension models as well. The full effect is the air suspension lowers the truck to the Aero height at over 64 mph and closes off the shutters to improve aerodynamics. Would deleting the AGS have an impact on that system?

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  6 років тому

      If you do the delete mod that I show in the last video your air suspension will still lower as it should and not have any issues because it thinks the AGS system is still fully functioning using the custom kit

    • @fathergratwick
      @fathergratwick 3 роки тому

      The ags will help more then it hurts unless your vehicle is modified to run a cooler and take advantage of that. (just changing the thermostat is only half the equation since the computer still looks for 200 degrees before going into the proper closed loop tune.) the engine runs rich until the proper temp is reached. and if you remove the ags and still have the stock thermostat that doesnt open till 200 degrees its pointless since the ags would be open when the radiator cooling fan is on and the computer commands cooling is needed regardless. removing it is a placebo mod that does more harm than good in the majority of situations.

    We've been following your channel for quite some time now and love your videos!
    I have a RAM, same generation as yours, with the 5.7 V8 BiFuel purchased in Belgium, Europe (if that makes a difference). Sport crew cab, short box. When driving around town, I've never seen it exceed 95 C (usually even starts to cool when it reaches 94) and could go down all the way to 90, sometimes even 89, before it starts to heat up again according to the evic.
    However, today I had to do a lot of highway / freeway driving at about 135~140 km/h (85 mph). I've seen the temp creep up to 97, which kind of scared me a little since it already runs quite a bit hotter than the European cars I'm used to… do you think it's because of the grille shutters? Or is it trying to run a little more efficiently on the highway?
    It's what would equal to a full option in the US I believe, except I did not get the air suspension, so it doesn't have aero mode for example.
    I'm sorry if my English isn't very good, thank you so much in advance :)

    Thanks for the video. I have a question. this is not my question its just a thought , An AGS system on a RAM truck in SO CAL? Like I'll ever sees snow or cold weather in San Diego. I can see where the AGS would be beneficial to keep the engine warm while driving in cold temperatures but My Ram, 2016 5.7 L Hemi lately has been fluctuating the temperature ranges (100 -145 at start up) then from 203 up to 224! Any Thoughts? @ 224 the fan kicks on and cools back down to 203. It will do this even while driving 65- 75 mph on the highways in town. If I run the AC it will run the fan to keep the engine cool. But I don't want the AC on to cool the engine. (I will check the AGS to see if it is working) I wonder if it is remaining shut and not giving a check engine light. I did the mechanical fan delete and installed an electric fan. Also, I have been through 2 water pumps and 2 new thermostats and 1 new temp sensor in the last 2 yrs it is now on its 3rd water pump and 3rd thermostat all due to leaking pump seals (weep hole) This could be due to the high temps I don't know . I m thinking about installing a manual override switch using a relay to turn the fan on and off. I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions. - Joseph

    Review removed how do you turn your check engine off because I take it off I remove it but I drove 30 miles and the check engine on April the scanner says I’m missing the radiator shuttles

    The weather here in Iraq is hot,and I don't want these gates, so if I just connect the active actuator (motor) did the fan will be working properly??

    • @fathergratwick

      you can remove the shutters but leave the motor connected. the shutters open whenever the radiator fans actually kick on while the thermostat is open so it wont have the effect you think by removing them.

    AGS system is completely unnecessary, unless there is no thermostat equipped. If thermostat is closed there is no coolant flow thru the radiator that the passing air can cool, thus the engine will reach operating temperature just as quickly with or without AGS. If they are closed during highway driving for "aerodynamics" your engine is probably getting too hot while driving. Thermostat is what truly regulates engine temp...along with other factors ie. Cooling fan speed, timing, etc.

      Yet multiple car engineering team have decided to spend extra r&D and extra money in installing them regardless of your logic. Normally I would agree with you but it must still make a difference besides the differences it makes in the transmission and turbo cooling even if it is just less cold air rushing through the engine compartment.

    • @stevenromero1801

      @@fathergratwick Respectfully to you, there's no real R&D involved. Other than coming up with an unnecessary component that is design to fail for dealer profit. Yes! Planned obsolescence is a real thing. As for spending the extra money? The stock AGS is made entirely of cheap, brittle plastic with a faulty motor. Probably cost the manufacturer pennys to produce & install, charged the consumer hundreds in sticker price. Then will charge hundreds more to service the system when it fails. And it WILL fail.

      @@stevenromero1801 Ive respectfully disagree. Ive owned a few and still own a classic and if your statement had merit newer vehicles wouldnt be running circles around those old simple designs as far as vehicle lifespan. we are not all engineers so we like to believe its all about conspiracy theories I guess. we all like to think we can stick it to the man by undoing some feature our car came with the save us money? planned obsolescence it a thing I agree (without it we would mostly be driving very old vehicles right now) .. but removing the shutters is not a going to do a damn thing to deter or effect that IMO. Ironically the person who made this video didnt even research how the shutters truly work

      @@fathergratwick Fair enough. I respect your opinion. Never said newer vehicles weren't more powerful than oldies. The more efficient the engine, the more power it produces with less fuel & emissions. That's true. However, if it makes you feel better to spend a ton of money constantly fixing your new car, go right on ahead. Personally, I'd rather stay on the streets with my simple, DEPENDABLE designs. As an ASE tech, who has to do the actual repairs on these new POS, it's just more money in my pocket anyways 😉.

      @@stevenromero1801you are absolutely right. These car manufacturers are in business to make money. The only "green" they are concerned with is the green in their pocket. This is no different than the infamous EGR system... It's more shit they add for you to spend money on later. Cars run more efficient now because they are tuned better with EFI (electronic fuel injection) and EIS (electronic ignition system) - no more distributors/carburetors - some of the last useful designs on modern vehicles. These shutters are shit, and the "team of engineers" who designed this are idiots (or not, since I'm sure they'll get nicely compensation for the bigger company profits). Anyone mechanically inclined knows cooler engines run better.
      Hotter engines = durability and performance..….said no one ever!

    Thanks for the video. I have a quick question. I have removed active grill for my ford focus 2018, the car is is performing pretty cool without it. However, the fan runs after few minutes I start the engine and does not stop until I switch off the car off. Please advise what might be the issue or what should I do with the fan?

      have you checked the cooling fan relay ? And also check the temp sending unit . It could be stuck in the "on"' position until the coolant reaches a certain temp.

    Nice video as usual, quick question, how do I know that the AGS are actually working? Is there a way to test these? I have noticed that when I turn off my truck that there is a noise that sounds like a small motor running, this will also occur at times just before I start the truck remotely.

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  6 років тому +1

      Hey Don! If you have remote start take a peek through the front grille and hit the remote start or get someone to start your truck and within the first minute you'll see the grilles run through the test procedure to check for full operation as they fully close and open.

    Can u help me out ive got a 6" lift on my truck with 22X12 wheels running 35" tires my temperature is between 219/222! Thats on the highway in town im at about 214. Is that normal cause of the lift ive got and bigger wheels? Was wondering if i should take off the shutters. I got a 2017 ram 1500 with the 3.6 pentastar.. Any info would be great thanks

      Hey Raul do you have the 8 speed? The thermostat on these trucks are usually pretty high stock but I haven't had to deal with the V6 on these trucks to be honest. As a simple test I would try unplugging your shutters with them open or temporarily removing them to see if it will help before you commit to deleting them! Keep us updated!
