So.. I've been on the NF train since I first discovered his song Intro loading into an online Madden game... shit was such a banger I quit the game and took the L to go show my roommate.. We spent the next hour listening to his debut album Mansion and I fell in love with his music.. The song Mansion is a huge introduction to everything. It's also one of his best songs.. its a huge metaphor. Every NF CD has shown growth and been consistent.. dude is an artist, lyricist, and an amazing storyteller. Each album sprinkled in more of the story..
I've been drawn in to the NF wormhole (I'm 63) a while ago. The dude is brilliant. He has been 'performing' his mental health journey and it is on point. Earlier in his evolution he wore dark or black to symbolize the darker disposition of his state. And he did flip to white when he dropped HOPE. To better understand his journey and all of the symbolism you have to go back to MANSION. He keeps including props and Easter eggs in all of his MVs and lyrics to make reference and to keep the viewers and listeners sharp and paying attention. When he released HOPE there's even a 'dark' version of himself holding him back. He keeps reminding the viewers that the journey of mental health is never complete. It's a continual process. He really is worth a deep dive. Keep it real👍
to really get what's going on in his songs you gotta start with Mansion and work your way through the albums in order. in a way his albums are like stories or chapters. to fully get what each song (for the most part) is about you gotta start at the beginning

The cart is his personal cage.. he locks him self in it.. On his Song outcast he is in a Cage in the vid.. he talks about how he locks himself in a cage to get away. When he left the cage (which he had the keys too the entire time) he took the cart as a mobile cage.. The Joker smile represents being forced to act like everything is fine.. its a fake smile to fit in.. so it represents not being himself.. hiding his true nature.. The black clothes is basically just wallowing in your depression and getting defeated by it... the people changing into White have decided to try and get better.. the video shows his fans.. cause thats who they represent. My interpretation of when he says, "Leave me alone" is him talking to himself or his negative thoughts. He says, "I don't need advice from my doubts right now End of conversation (Leave me alone)." His fake smile is him pretending to be okay when he's not. And the people in white suits are people who are letting go of some of their burdens and getting help whereas the people in all black that are lying on the ground are the people who didn't let any of their burdens go and continued having mental health issues. The easiest way to explain the massive fan base he has is he speaks for A LOT of people in this world who are hesitant to talk about challenges they are going through. He also lets people realize that they are not the only one struggling. The smile drawn on is his “fake smile” that hides what he is going through. People in general act as if everything is great and yet everybody’s going through problems that we know nothing about.
I feel like the video was him getting something off his chest so when he gave away 2 balloons at the end it was just a little bit of the burden he carries.
Listening to NF out of order can be very daunting. The journey is like having the cliff notes. My take on this video is that burdens never go away completely, they are a part of life. Whatever path we choose towards healing, be it therapy, medication, self-care, letting go of toxic relationships, a relationship with God, we need to put the work in and make a consistent effort to stay healthy and happy. That is why you see the people in white still with balloons, it is a constantly renewing cycle. The white clothing, which to me is the state of our soul, the face paint, the mask we hide behind, and the balloons, our burdens. The people in the shed still in black, are the people that are not ready, they are stuck. NF is wants to work on it, but he still has ways to go at this point. But! Even though he is not 100% ready to start yet, he is getting there. Based on my belief system, he handed over a couple of burdens to Jesus, who is also called our living Hope. In the beginning of Hope he says “Hope, I’m on my way I’m coming. Don’t lose faith in me, I know you have been waiting”. Leave me alone is the first step on his Search for the map to Hope.

Something I found interesting that someone else noted a while back: Referencing what he says while he's lecturing the group, he was gone so long that people are forgetting about him, dropping the dark clothes and black smiles before he drops another album. I took my 12 & 14 year old grandsons to see him in concert in '21. One word...BRILLIANT! HE is so damn good. It's so much better to do hissongs as the journey like it should be. Love your reactions, and I am going to have to hit up the other NF ones. This is the first from him I have seen. I like his flow. My take on this one was he has burdens which are the balloons and he is reluctant to give them up as he is scared they define who he is. The title reflects that he probably has people in his life that are reaching out to him to encourage him to give up the balloons, but he isn't yet ready to. I also get that from the background sound that is almost like what you hear when you are calling someone and its just ringing. He isn't answering b/c he isn't ready to give up the balloons but also doesn't even want to have the conversation with that person about it (probably already heard it multiple times). At the end he choses 2 of his multiple balloons to give up, but you can see he is hesitant and never actually gives them up when the video finishes. He is very close though. Since this is my first exposure to him I don't know anything about his religion or if that should all factor into the analysis and I just wrote a bunch of irrelevant stuff. lol Love to hear feedback from you or viewers. You are actually spot on... but there are more layers to these symbles that give the listener more freedom to attach so much of Nate's 'art' to their own burdens and perspectives... NF is a Christian so that can also connect some extra dots inaccordance with each person who relates in their own spiritual struggles... peace.. ;)
Really well described. While he is Christian, he doesn't want to be described as a Christian Rapper but a Rapper that is also Christian. His faith is part of who he is and not The Message he wants to convey. He's not pushing Christianity but the search for peace through better understanding. I can wholeheartedly recommend a full immersion. Dude's found his niche and he's owning it. He looked up to some of the Giants of rap and wanted to be accepted and recognized for his art and his TALENT. He wanted their approval but has found he doesn't need it anymore. He refers to them occasionally but has moved past that. Dude's legit without having to be vulgar or profane.

Mental health isn't getting worse. Its becoming recognized and brought into the open, instead of people suffering in silence. The white suits aren't doctors, they are medicated. The song is about his fear that medication might change who he is and what he can do.

Nate is still Searching, pushing his mental shopping cart prison around with his burdens attached, closely dragging behind. The people in white likely represent his fans in various stages of mental health themselves. Some still hide behind their fake "Joker" smiles, pretending their lives are fine with the appearances they present to the world and social media. Others, have been inspired by Nate, and are going to get professional help and are beginning to come to terms with their own flaws and burdens (wiping off their smiles in line). Some have let go of most of their burdens, and some fans still carry around a few burdens, but not as much as Nate; which is his "Perception." Furthermore, Nate references that "he'll drop a song out of nowhere and all the fans embrace it" (as all the seated fans are eagerly listening, waiting for new music and point, in unison, at his burdens). The following scene shows the symbiosis of Nate's fans helping him by literally being behind him and helping him into mental recovery (pushing him in his shopping cart) while simultaneously following him and being inspired to get help themselves. I think the tent with black clothes being exchanged for white represents people discovering NF and that they aren't alone. They don't have to wear black and be plagued by their burdens forever. Being a part of this community of NF fans that are real and raw is helping them and inspiring them to come into the light (white clothes symbolizing purity). They come out with no fake smiles, but don't necessarily smile for real still, because they are no longer faking that everything is ok. They have become "Real", embracing "Real Music" and "Real life" on the road to healing. The older man sitting in the cart, is old NF that we have seen in a few other videos, assuming he never lets go of all his burdens and grows old with them. Fame is again, referenced. The phone rings at the beginning (Fame is calling) and it ends with the phone still ringing; fame calling again. Love this kid. He is such a talented artist, raw, emotional and an oddball. For me personally this song is lived experience. Outside looking in. The joy of this are there are different interpretations, but I feel the white are people with "hope"- which comes into play in the song hope, when he found it. His darker side, in black, is him living with his demons. Smile is the fake happy people put on- as seen in Therapy Session. I think this video is so important in the journey because he learns he can wipe the fake smile off, and hand his burdens over to God, and starts learning that he can have hope. My opinion, everyone represents different people and there stages on their way to healing. Black balloons = burdens, black smile = being fake for appearances, shopping cart = the cage/his mind he feels trapped in, black clothes = hope vs fear. Everyone is on a journey to getting better and in the beginning of the video you see people like him with shopping carts in all black behind him going into the amusement park. Then you also see the part of the park with fame is where all the people who don’t want to get healed are at, he sees that part and is like I don’t want to stay here and be like these people. At the end I think the hand is God, and NF is finally giving some of his burdens to God. The whole leave me alone chorus is directed at his burdens “I should just let them go and watch them float away… hey, hey, hey, leave me alone”. “cover up my face” saying to stop faking it for appearances by getting rid of the black smile.
My thoughts…the white outfits everyone has represents everyone in society conforming, the fake smile represents people in society pretending to be what they aren’t, the line of people giving balloons seems to be people who already wiped off their smiles and are ready to hand over their burdens probably to God because NF is very Christian. The dude is brilliant. He has been 'performing' his mental health journey and it is on point. Earlier in his evolution he wore dark or black to symbolize the darker disposition of his state. And he did flip to white when he dropped HOPE.
To better understand his journey and all of the symbolism you have to go back to MANSION. He keeps including props and Easter eggs in all of his MVs and lyrics to make reference and to keep the viewers and listeners sharp and paying attention.
When he released HOPE there's even a 'dark' version of himself holding him back. He keeps reminding the viewers that the journey of mental health is never complete. It's a continual process.
He really is worth a deep dive.

My interpretation of when he says, "Leave me alone" is him talking to himself or his negative thoughts. He says, "I don't need advice from my doubts right now

And the people in white suits are people who are letting go of some of their burdens and getting help whereas the people in all black that are lying on the ground are the people who didn't let any of their burdens go and continued having mental health issues. BP you gotta start at the beginning. Fans call it the NF JOURNEY. Take it. Start at the first album. Youre jumping around to much to understand and appreciate this in the way i think you could.
The easiest way to explain the massive fan base he has is he speaks for A LOT of people in this world who are hesitant to talk about challenges they are going through. He also lets people realize that they are not the only one struggling.
The smile drawn on is his “fake smile” that hides what he is going through. People in general act as if everything is great and yet everybody’s going through problems that we know nothing about.
I feel like the video was him getting something off his chest so when he gave away 2 balloons at the end it was just a little bit of the burden he carries.
Listening to NF out of order can be very daunting. The journey is like having the cliff notes. My take on this video is that burdens never go away completely, they are a part of life. Whatever path we choose towards healing, be it therapy, medication, self-care, letting go of toxic relationships, a relationship with God, we need to put the work in and make a consistent effort to stay healthy and happy. That is why you see the people in white still with balloons, it is a constantly renewing cycle.
The white clothing, which to me is the state of our soul, the face paint, the mask we hide behind, and the balloons, our burdens. The people in the shed still in black, are the people that are not ready, they are stuck. NF is wants to work on it, but he still has ways to go at this point. But! Even though he is not 100% ready to start yet, he is getting there. Based on my belief system, he handed over a couple of burdens to Jesus, who is also called our living Hope. In the beginning of Hope he says “Hope, I’m on my way I’m coming. Don’t lose faith in me, I know you have been waiting”. Leave me alone is the first step on his Search for the map to Hope.

Can't start here, my guy. His discography goes in chronological order. It's amazing
Love your reactions, and I am going to have to hit up the other NF ones. This is the first from him I have seen. I like his flow. My take on this one was he has burdens which are the balloons and he is reluctant to give them up as he is scared they define who he is. The title reflects that he probably has people in his life that are reaching out to him to encourage him to give up the balloons, but he isn't yet ready to. I also get that from the background sound that is almost like what you hear when you are calling someone and its just ringing. He isn't answering b/c he isn't ready to give up the balloons but also doesn't even want to have the conversation with that person about it (probably already heard it multiple times). At the end he choses 2 of his multiple balloons to give up, but you can see he is hesitant and never actually gives them up when the video finishes. He is very close though. Since this is my first exposure to him I don't know anything about his religion or if that should all factor into the analysis and I just wrote a bunch of irrelevant stuff. lol Love to hear feedback from you or viewers.

You are actually spot on... but there are more layers to these symbles that give the listener more freedom to attach so much of Nate's 'art' to their own burdens and perspectives... Nate is still Searching, pushing his mental shopping cart prison around with his burdens attached, closely dragging behind. The people in white likely represent his fans in various stages of mental health themselves. Some still hide behind their fake "Joker" smiles, pretending their lives are fine with the appearances they present to the world and social media. Others, have been inspired by Nate, and are going to get professional help and are beginning to come to terms with their own flaws and burdens (wiping off their smiles in line). Some have let go of most of their burdens, and some fans still carry around a few burdens, but not as much as Nate; which is his "Perception."
Furthermore, Nate references that "he'll drop a song out of nowhere and all the fans embrace it" (as all the seated fans are eagerly listening, waiting for new music and point, in unison, at his burdens). The following scene shows the symbiosis of Nate's fans helping him by literally being behind him and helping him into mental recovery (pushing him in his shopping cart) while simultaneously following him and being inspired to get help themselves. I think the tent with black clothes being exchanged for white represents people discovering NF and that they aren't alone. They don't have to wear black and be plagued by their burdens forever. Being a part of this community of NF fans that are real and raw is helping them and inspiring them to come into the light (white clothes symbolizing purity). They come out with no fake smiles, but don't necessarily smile for real still, because they are no longer faking that everything is ok. They have become "Real", embracing "Real Music" and "Real life" on the road to healing.
The older man sitting in the cart, is old NF that we have seen in a few other videos, assuming he never lets go of all his burdens and grows old with them. Fame is again, referenced. The phone rings at the beginning (Fame is calling) and it ends with the phone still ringing; fame calling again. TBD on if Nate gives away a few of his burdens to the man behind the veil wearing white. I take that as GOD.

My interpretation is the setting of the music video is some sort of mental hospital. Or at least representing people struggling with mental health. All with balloons too. NF was handing his balloons over to a therapist at the end.
I love the verse he had in the middle about how people tell him he doesn’t do enough to stay in the public via stuff like interviews. And he’s like, that’s part of the plan. He knows he has a really dedicated fanbase, so when something drops, they will do his marketing via word-of-mouth
Love this kid. He is such a talented artist, raw, emotional and an oddball. For me personally this song is lived experience. Outside looking in. In a society that I have never belonged to, I don't want, and doesn't want me. However being forced to conform in clown world (I believe that to be an element of the makeup). Until we decide not to.
The joy of this are there are different interpretations, but I feel the white are people with "hope"- which comes into play in the song hope, when he found it. His darker side, in black, is him living with his demons. Smile is the fake happy people put on- as seen in Therapy Session.
I think this video is so important in the journey because he learns he can wipe the fake smile off, and hand his burdens over to God, and starts learning that he can have hope. His white clothes that we see him in the video of hope are in his cart there- given to him at the end of the search while he is "looking for the map to hope". His music and videos are all interconnected.

My opinion, everyone represents different people and there stages on their way to healing. Black balloons = burdens, black smile = being fake for appearances, shopping cart = the cage/his mind he feels trapped in, black clothes = hope vs fear.
Everyone is on a journey to getting better and in the beginning of the video you see people like him with shopping carts in all black behind him going into the amusement park. Then you also see the part of the park with fame is where all the people who don’t want to get healed are at, he sees that part and is like I don’t want to stay here and be like these people. At the end I think the hand is God, and NF is finally giving some of his burdens to God. The whole leave me alone chorus is directed at his burdens “I should just let them go and watch them float away… hey, hey, hey, leave me alone”. “cover up my face” saying to stop faking it for appearances by getting rid of the black smile.

My thoughts…the white outfits everyone has represents everyone in society conforming, the fake smile represents people in society pretending to be what they aren’t, the line of people giving balloons seems to be people who already wiped off their smiles and are ready to hand over their burdens probably to God because NF is very Christian. Remember this song came right after The Search so he’s still searching for answers to his mental health struggles at this point.
