    Corrections:
    The Pride of Bruges has operated the route since 1987, she was origninally called the Norsun. She was renamed Pride of Bruges in 2002.
    Belgium is obviously spelt incorrectly in the video (not quiet sure how I made this mistake :)

      No she hasn't operated the Zeebrugge route since 1987. Pride of Brugge was indeed built as the Norsun but she was built for, and entered service on the Hull to Rotterdam route, at which time she displaced the Norstar onto the Zeebrugge route. Pride of Brugge (still named Norsun) transferred to the Zeebrugge in 2002 after the Norstar had a major engine fire, and was withdrawn from service. This also required the still under construction Pride of Rotterdam, and Pride of Hull to have their names swapped so that the Pride of Hull (closest to completion) could enter service as Pride of Rotterdam to allow the transfer of the dutch flagged ships to go ahead without too much grief. Norsun wasn't renamed Pride of Brugge until 2003 when P&O North Sea Ferries became just plane P&O Ferries. Norstar was taken out of service at this time, and later transferred to SNAV. Interesting fact, the Norsun's first revenue earning voyage was also her delivery voyage when she carried 850 brand new Nissan cars from Yokohama, Japan to Rotterdam.

    Interesting video! I remember catching a ferry from Gothenberg Sweden to Hull very early in 1968. I can't remember the ship's or line's name, but that voyage across the North Sea was horrific. All of us, passengers and crew, traversed the ship on hands and knees because of the rough seas. Docking at Hull was mercy delivered from heaven. I was such an ignorant teenager then. At that time, taking currency out of Britain was highly restricted. I was broke on my return, and I went 3 days without food. Later I learned that I could have gone to the purser and cashed a cheque ! Sometimes life's lesson come the hard way! But I'll never forget finally docking in beautiful Hull!

    I went on this ship several times during her North Sea Ferries days as the Norsun. Big ship and lots to explore for a kid :)
    The service took a nose dive in quality and prices soared when P&O took hold through :(

    Reminds me of sailing Dover - Zeebrugge many times by the then Townsend Thoresen ferries (owners of "HERALD of Free Enterprise") during the pre-Channel Tunnel 1970's for cycle-racing trips to ride the "International Amateur " races in Flanders. Also on one occasion crossed overnight by the Stena Line service from Sheerness to Vlissingen, then by ferry across the Schelde to Terneuzen for a short drive beside the Zeekanaal to our lodgings in Ghent. Experience aboard this long crossing was very much like yours aboard the "Wawel": We'd booked "pullman" seats in the quiet lounge to get some rest as we were racing the next day, but were kept awake all night by Australian and American backpackers increasingly more drunk, arguing about the Vietnam War!

    great video mate but interesting to know they have to us a lock in the port couldn't they of used the land upstream or a little downstream to make it easier?how much time does it add on to the journey ?finally i've read a few comments on here they will be stopping this service ?shame people now want to get from A to B as quickly as possible (ie flying)

    Man the owners of the Herald of Free Enterprise and all the other ships owned by them at that time were called Townsend Thoresten. They were Geniuses. Tey had at te time the 2 worst peacetime deathtoll since the Titanic, DOZENS of mistakes by poorly trained crew etc, it sould ave destroyed their reputation. You'd tink "It must have., i aven't heard of Townsend Thoresten since???" You have., they renamed themslves to P&O Ferries not long after. absolute GENIUS bit of management there. And pretty much no one rememberes they're the same people

    Can never understand why the captan enters hull docks stern first? York comes in bow first.
    It always coursed a lot of damage to both vessel and lock pit.
    As iv traveled and worked on both vessels. It's agood job it's been taken out of service now.....it was very rotten for its age.
    But I do like a good commenter vidii

    Hi, really nice video with good footage. Of course the vessel has actually operated the route since 1987 when she was called the Norsun. She was renamed Pride of Bruges in 2002. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the imminent internal refurbishment.

    • @duncanbhaltaireanraigwilso9627
      @duncanbhaltaireanraigwilso9627 5 років тому

      Hi Jonny, you're incorrect i'm afraid. She hasn't being on the Hull to Zeebrugge route since 1987. Pride of Brugge entered service as Norsun in 1987 on the Hull to Rotterdam route, and displaced the Norstar on to the Hull to Zeebrugge route. She only transferred to Hull to Zeebrugge in 2002 (still named Norsun after Norstar had a catastrophic engine fire [Also requiring Pride of Hull to be renamed Pride of Rotterdam to replace Norsun on the Rotterdam route] ), before being renamed Pride of Brugge in 2003 at the same time that, P&O North Sea Ferries became just plane, P&O Ferries.

    • @Oakleaf700
      @Oakleaf700 7 років тому

      Tunnel is so quick..the motorway into Belgium is fast and easy..but of course migrants are now a problem around Calais Tunnel area. When we went, we were in a car, not a van, and it was obvious that the car was full...but wouldn't want to be driving a lorry or empty car through there now.

    • @colinclarke4285
