You know I just don't understand why people need to be so rude and obnoxious to someone they don't even know. I think all she wanted to let people know is how it's done, how easy it is, and what she used. Who cares if you don't like the color or you would have bought something else. Why does that matter to you???? All you need to do is move onto the next video or off UA-cam. I think some people have way too much time on their hands. Thanks for showing me how you done yours.
I don’t agree with you. Well not with everything. Yes it’s not nice to be rude but when people say the way they did it, and what they do differently it helps others. Before I did my I read comments and I learned something new. Something I would do differently. But I agree she did good job. But I like negative comments too. You look at things differently and make your choice.

When it comes to taste and preference, there's no such thing as wrong.
I am a visual learner and the way she described each step in the video was very helpful and gave me a better understanding in what I’m doing.

I personally think she did a great job. I read some comments and I think she did it the way SHE wanted. Yes it may not look like the box but who cares.. it looks great and this was the best video I have seen so far. I am getting ready to do mine but with brown.

@@KL-nw9mi Well, it was holding up pretty good until a few weeks ago. I was cleaning my counter and the paint actually was coming off. Now rather than the pattern, I have a large brown/beige area. I'm being sensitive to my other counter tops right now in fear of it happening there. I will have to order another round and refinish the topping on all the counters. I plan on calling them early next week to see if this is a problem and what ran wrong.
We all know this isn’t real granite. Many people cannot afford real granite. If you’ve got old laminate tops that could use a fresher look, I think this works fine. If I posted this and got some of the harsh comments, I would stress to you: 1. I don’t have the money for new tops, let alone granite. 2. I’m not entertaining the high society crowd, nor would I care about anyone else’s snotty opinion 3. I did this for me. If I want to share to anyone to help others in a similar situation, it doesn’t mean it’s your duty to demean the process and make someone feel less than. Not everything or anyone deserves your snide remarks. If it’s not for you, fine. Get your charge card or pile of cash and hire a professional or get the expensive countertop. You do you and extend the same courtesy to everyone else. 4. It makes you no better to spend more money. It just means you were willing to spend more because you can afford it or are willing to go into debt so you can have better.
Karen Miller Couldn’t agree more! I’d sooner plunk my cash into kids’ college fund, or a new car than a kitchen counter. It looks nicer than it did before, and if it doesn’t impress guests that’s just too bad. To be honest, natural granite is so porous you’d better seal it regularly or risk ruining it with stains from spills!

I used this kit in my bathroom counter top, turned out nice and held up nice in the last 3 years
-I've done this and I am here to say that it doesn't need to cost $80. I used a small can of black rustoleum for the base. After that I used those craft paints that come in the small plastic bottles (Folklore?). Some of the paint I already had from previous craft projects. I used different sized and textured sponges as well for a look that was more true of a natural stone product. What also helped was getting a sample of real stone from a flooring store, they used to give these away for free. My stone inspiration had veining as well. That was the kicker that really seemed to take my project from "try hard look" to "when did you get new countertops put in?".
Go slow, The first color should be spaced a bit randomly, constantly turning the sponge and swapping out for different sizes and textures of sponges. Take a moment and assess. Reference your real stone sample piece and add more of the first color if you feel the need. My stone had, at the minimum, three different colors that gave it more depth and interest. One of the colors was a rich glazed copper color. A sparkly gold color was also visible. All in all I probably had about six colors I was working with. Some of the colors were used more sparingly than others, like in a real slab. Some natural stone counters have pocketed areas of color in fluid looking triangular or V shapes. Some have diagonal rivulets of concentrated colors. Mine had both. More fun for me! RAgain, start with a light hand, assess, then fill in where needed for a natural look. It may takes three or more colors in the pockets to create the depth of a natural stone look. If you take a diagonal or slanted approach to the rivulets of color try to maintain the same directional slant in the rest of the countertop so that it appears that the stone was "cut" from the same slab. But again, try to find a sample of real stone or some online photos or video of the real product that you are trying to mimick.
Also, some colors I went over while still wet to get a blended, less harsh, look. Sometimes I would not clean the first color out of the sponge before I went in with a different color. That seemed to create the natural look I was going for. But be careful because things can get "muddied" quickly. Take it slow.
It seemed to me that a light hand was key to the whole project. You can always go back to square one. But you can almost always avoid that with a methodical and assessing approach.
I think that I used a food grade poly for the finish. I used three coats, and sanded each coat, when dry, with 150-200 grit paper (the black kind) then wiping with a damp cloth.
After twelve years the faux finish is finally showing some wear. What will I do next? Hhmmmm. I know that I will try my damnedest to not spend $80 on it.
With the poly how long did you have to wait before using the countertops?

I think one box only covers 32 sq feet of counter. Mine would be in the upper $300 range, so I think I'm going to try the above mentioned comment first from Napa Moolight. I know it's all about great preparation and a good poly with many coats.
I'm assuming you have your own video on this?
Craft paint, as in something you could pick up at joann fabrics?
The glitter top coat is what I like about this kit, but could glitter be added to the poly or while the craft paint is still wet? I would love to make something with a marble effect.

Give it 6-8 months. Mine are peeling. ANd I followed the directions.

I’ve done 3 of these and the people I have done them for love it and it didn’t cost them a fortune. All of them have held up for over 2 years now and still look good

Although I haven’t tried the product, I like the way she explained the process and did the video. She covered details and probable problems and how best to solve them. The video was concise and didn’t waste a lot of time on showing repetition.
You did a great job explaining everything and the 3 months follow up was really helpful. Thank you for the video! The only thing I'd point out is you went too heavy with the lighter colors and the dabbing in a way that 2b covered completely 2a. I would had left some dark color in there which you actually pointed out that you had to retouch with some black.
Tip don't use soft materials like wood filler or drywall mud to fill in chips or holes. Use Bondo it is harder and sticks to the surface as long as you clean and sanded it. It also works great at hiding the seams. Where there are seams ... sand them out and leave a bit of a valley and bondo and sand to make it nice and level.
I’m with you on this. I don’t even have enough money to buy brand new countertops, so we do what we can!

One thing I would do differently, is the way she holds the sponge. All professionals do it different way, round top to dabb your countertop, not flat, it’s also more comfortable. But everyone have their choices. You can always try on paper the way you like. (I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just giving advice for others to see if they like it better)
this gal was grt in showing us all how to do this grt countertop...i am going to try it soon...and i am 84 yrs old...and have done many home projects...this will be my last and most fun.

Great video, thanks for posting it. I used the Sicilian Sand color at my parents house while my family and I were visiting them. My Mom commented on their guest bath and how she’d like to freshen up the look. I saw your video, ordered the kit and it was delivered 2 days later. I had my wife get my parents out of the house for the day while I painted the walls/ceiling/trim, cabinet, changed out fixtures and used the Giani kit on the countertop - even though I had to wait until the next day to finish it after the black primer coat dried. For a few hundred dollar$ and 12 hours of my time it was a nice surprise for them. It’s amazing what a little paint can do!
I've used this product five times now and it works great ...some tips to keep in mind ..remove your sink ..paint under the sink as to minimize the risk of water damage and chipping ....also for the trouble some area by the back splash ...clean the foam brush provided then with scissors cut a few small chunks from it .then use the brush to a ply the white colors to any 90 degree angles
ambush 247 great idea for the crack area between the countertop and backsplash. You can get plenty of those brushes at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s just in case you need more.
When you cut your sponges, you get one edge that is a 90° angle, perfect for getting into the crack between the countertop and backsplash.

I get embarrassed by my house sometimes because I cannot afford remodeling. All the work I do myself . I’m going to give this a try to spiff up my 50 year old Formica countertops. The point of having the three sponge colors is so you can have varying shades showing through creating depth and interest. If you cover them completely, you will only get one color, the top color. To represent this product better, you should stress not overworking the sponge painting. Just a tip from a long time artist;)

I bought the Sicilian Sand kit and in the instructions ( for both the white diamond and the Sicilian sand ) it says to allow each mineral color to dry in between. I noticed that you did not, did you have any problems with the colors blending and muddying?
It looks nice. The only place I see the black is where the backsplash meets the back edge of the counter top. Would like to have seen more if the black come thru. 👍

I’ve done this so many times, it’s always fun and I always get a different result. Because it’s paint, you can change it whenever it suits you.

Nicely done! My apartment has this, I wasn’t around when they completed it. Good for a rental, will say I have to be super careful about setting any kind of fork or spoon down with food on it, I’ve gotten some discoloration. But good for a quick diy fix! Nicely done!

Great job. You answered two of the questions I had. 1) doing the edge of the backsplash/counter which I had a tough time doing. 2) Putting a second round of sponge on the previous dried counter. I will try sponging as close to the edge and sponge over again after it dries. When it is still wet, it smudges.

I want to either paint or use the peel and stick granite. Do you prefer one over the other? What is the pro and cons of each. I keep going back and forth. I was worried about longevity with the peel and stick but I have came across someone who has had it for 2 years and still going strong.

You can. When I bought my house 2 1/2 years ago my countertops were already painted gray. They looked very nice. I would like to re-do them now since I see some chipping in a couple of spots.

Great job and review!! I would say that the paint needs to be thin when sponging on so it keeps a low profile or else there would be more sanding needed.
I'm using the same kit except in chocolate brown. Primer is done and will be sponging in about an hour!

That angled seam in the corner just to the left of the sink really really stuck out badly after it was done, I would recommend that some wood filler be used to fill that in as much as possible and then to sand it smooth as can be before the primer is put on. in the end that seam will be virtually GONE!

I would have taken the faucet and handles off. It might have have been easier.
I have been looking at this for my kitchen so I am anxious to see how it holds up over time. I have tile countertops so I am wondering if I can put filler in the grout lines and sand them smooth. The company did say I can do tile but said it doesn’t really fill the lines. They had pictures and it looked like granite tile. Still, it looked loads better than the ceramic tile before.
I would have just taped them up completely and maybe put plastic bags over it.
I also have tile but don't mind the lines showing. I just want them to look better. My tiles had cracks and I painted over them but they are plain and some have chips. I just used paint and polyurethane. Hope this hold up.

I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I'm in the middle of doing my countertops with the kit and and all the videos and topcoat can say to sand b4 applying top coat, but my question is won't it take the paint off? Or do you just use a really fine grit? Thank you

Watched several of these videos in youtube world, but yours is by far the best.
Except; you nor the others mentioned the size of your counter tops, and how much material was left. Giani says it will cover (up to) 35 sq. ft. / 16 running feet of a standard counter width. No mention about the back splash added in, because a 16 ft by 4 or 5 inch back splash adds over 5 sq. ft.
I am also asking you because you have the same type of counter tops, rounded fronts with attached back splash. I'm stuck and will have to buy two kits because I have a total of 52 sq. ft. of counter, (including the back splash). So I wanted to paint my dining table at the same time, and that will bring it up to the 70 sq. ft. I won't hold you to it, but do you think that the amount of counter sq. ft. you painted and the amount left is close to the advertised 35 sq. ft?
If not, I'll build a couple faux headstones to decorate for Halloween instead.
BTW, at the very end of your video, (optical illusion), your lower cabinets look gray, the exact color of mine.
And if you do have any left over, grab some well sanded and primed wood and see if it works on wood. Thinking of painting some wood trim and make it look like granite for misc. projects.

Can any of you seasoned diyer's tell me if you think that it would be okay to use this kit AND add a few of your own acrylic colors to the mix..? I want a countertop with some lapis blue in it!
I am sure it would be OK. All they did was use regular paint. It would all be sealed anyway.

I've read some comments about peeling after a few months and I've seen some videos recommending using several poly coats. I also saw where some used (I guess) a stone epoxy or sealer but those are expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations for a finishing product that will last a good bit?

I used clear epoxy resin to keep the longevity of our counter tops.

I'm selling my house, don't want to spend the money on new counter tops so I was thinking of doing something like this.
What is your opinion on that? If you were looking to purchase a house, would it look like a cheesy attempt of the look? Would it be impressive? People are bringing up the upgrades needed on the house to make it something they wish to purchase. DO YOU THINK doing this would behoove me?

It looks like a sponge painted countertop not natural stone which has an irregular look. I thought you were too heavy handed with each color and covered up too much of the previous color.
kaybonette it’s definitely a faux countertop, so, the intent is for it to look closely as possible to the real thing. I did this to my counters and my video is on my channel. Yes, it looks hand painted, but I love my counters and i always get compliments.
