- Frank Tufano has convinced himself that plants are capable of feeling pain because he has mistakenly assumed intelligence and sentience are the same thing. He also decided to try to back up his ridiculous claim with some research which of course he also does not understand.

@@Sonof_DRN2004 Animals require the "killing" of more plants by far. They require lots of land which would mean killing trees and obviously they eat a lot of plants as well.
@@Sonof_DRN2004 The crops we feed to animals are wasted in the form of body heat, excrement, respiration, and other metabolic losses. We do not get nearly as much out of livestock as we put into them. We can grow 18 times the amount of food per acre of land if it's entirely crops for humans, vs. if it were crops for animals, animal space, the facilities to process their manure/waste, etc. And about 10 times the protein if it's just crops for humans, too. We actually grow enough crops to feed 10 billion people, but unfortunately they are wasted on animals -- just Google it.
@ben s This concern is not one based in reality. Individuals might go vegan overnight, but entire populations do not. Every movement is founded on gradual change. and the goal is the reduction in the size of the industries until they collapse. Companies respond to demand in this case by breeding fewer cows.

PS: If you mean when everyone is vegan, then zoos or fields in which animals have their zones. But we as humans should stop see them as products and start seeing them as companions.

There have been studies showing that plants react to aggression and can produce certain substances to defend themselves against insects. These chemical messages are also transmitted to other plants in close vicinity which in turn defend themselves preemptively. However, calling that "feeling pain" would be a stretch. It's simply an expression of nature striving towards survival.

Sometimes I feel like frank is a sharp kid, but sometimes he doesn't want to face the truth. he wears make up and won't admit to it, clearly he doesn't want to accept the fact that he is insecure about his appearance and sexuality. he probably knows plants are healthy too, but he doesn't want to face that truth. it's a shame he puts so much effort into spreading a message that makes the world worse off.

Plants are living things and react to their environment. They are more intelligent than you think. May not necessarily be pain in the way we understand, but plants do react to their environment; we all know this.
Plant foods have a defense mechanism to protect themselves from getting eaten; it’s called anti nutrients.
I promise you your depression will cease once you eat meat. I was vegan too and mentally it destroyed me. Once I started eating meat I felt completely healed.

1. Plants are not sentient/self-aware because they have no brain or any processing unit to perceive things. You need to be able to perceive things to be able to perceive pain.
2. Pain is an advantageous adaptation in animals & anything with a brain. We feel pain so we can avoid the thing that is giving us pain and so we can be gentle with broken bones & stuff like that. A plant has no reason to feel pain because it would not be able to do anything about the pain it’s feels.
Anything a plant does is going to be completely different from an animal because a plant has different parts.
I think Frank feels bad about not being able to stick to a vegan diet. I hope he figures it out

A good in-house example of reacting to stimuli without consciousness is your gut, it has more neurons than an entire cat brain, constantly performs tasks in reaction to stimuli and your brain has nothing to do with it. I'm very glad I don't have to think about digestion.
Plants are sentient and conscious, this was proved by Cleve Baxter back in the 1950s. But more recent studies have definitely verified this. This is unfortunately the hypocracy in veganism. A car diagnostic system is affixed to mechanical principles, a plant can learn and evolve!

How do you prove that a being is conscious at all? Consciousness is a subjective experience. There's no way to tell the difference between a conscious being and a being that appears to be conscious, unless you yourself are the being. Of course, we all make the assumption that beings that appear sentient are in fact sentient, based on evidence like similarity in brain structure, behaviour, etc. But at the end of the day in order to believe this we all need to make fundamental assumptions about the universe (ie, that it exists and is measurable). It's possible that it's all some wacky simulation and you're the only conscious being in it, with every other being just programmed to appear sentient but actually being totally unable to experience anything subjectively.
