UPDATED 2024 Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up the Halo GPS Dog Fence by a USER

- I’ll be updating the video soon and will place the link (here), but for now, here’s a written guide that’s clearer and more detailed than what you’ll find online. Follow these steps to easily set up your Halo GPS Fence, as you can no longer walk the boundary you want.
1️⃣ Open your Halo app.
2️⃣ Navigate to “Find & Manage Fences” (tap the "V" icon to expand the menu).
3️⃣ Tap the “+” to Add Fence.
4️⃣ Choose your setup method:
OPTION A: If you're currently at the location, the map will display your area with a yellow boundary.
OPTION B: If you're setting up a boundary before traveling, type in the address under “Search places and address.” This allows you to create a fence remotely.
OPTION C: Adjust the fence boundary by shifting the map itself (not the pin) and aligning it with the pins’ geo-located positions.
5️⃣ Click “Create Fence.” This will generate a yellow boundary around the pins’ locations.
6️⃣ Fine-tune your fence:
If adjustments are needed, click “Edit Fence.” This lets you drag and reposition pinpoints. The more you drag the boundary out, the more pins will automatically appear for precision.
A blue hashtag will appear over any building or property on the map, helping you visualize structures within the boundary.
7️⃣ Save and name your fence:
Tap “Save” in the top-right corner.
To rename the fence, click the pen icon next to the default name.
💡 Pro Tips:
After setting up the fence, use the drag-and-drop feature to precisely adjust boundaries for your dog’s unique roaming space.
You can create up to 20 virtual fences at a time-perfect for home, parks, trips, or any outdoor adventures.
Test out the fence with a methodical walk swing it in your arm (like a fit bit) as you walk towards the boundary and note you will get fluctuation as it is a geo fence.

I am so grateful for your videos. I was about to throw the two collars I bought in the garbage. I was so frustrated after spending time researching collars and deciding I should spend my money with this collar - for two dogs so two collars! I felt the small manual was not enough for me. I tried the support but never connected with a person. I searched for help to no avail. We live in a remote place and my dogs need to be confined to safe zones when I am not physically with them because we have big wildlife here that will enjoy my large dogs for a meal. I need immediate recall. Your videos and simple close up photos of the various screens on the app have helped me figure out the basics. Maybe I can take it from here! Thank you.

Your videos are much easier to follow than what Halo provides. It looks like I cannot set up a fence like this anymore, though? Is there a setting in the app to still do it like this?
yes open the app and it will geo fence your property - drag and drop pins (adjust as needed) and then test. I will put this on my to do list.
Recently bought Halo 2 haven’t used it on dog yet. Would be nice to find a video on a fence test run holding the collar in hand.
Olga please watch my other videos particularly on gps dog collars and accuracy… you will notice fluctuations for all gps collars.
The walking GPS feature is no longer available... Called support to vent my frustration on it.
Oh thanks for the update - I appreciate it. I know there is now smart boundaries I used it last week, from there I just manually adjusted.
Hope they add it back. That seems so much easier than trying to adjust!
I just received my collars and I’m activating today. I’m trying to decide how many fences I need. I live in the country and have a lot of property. My question is, what you just created, is that considered 1 fence or 20 fences? Is each post you made 1 fence?
@@jenniferk.1740 each zone you create is once fence you may have many posts … I would do one to get the hang of it first and see how the app operates i know it’s more intuitive updated now.
@ Thank you for your fast response! I guess I just don’t understand why I would need more than 1 fence then. If my dogs stay inside the 1 fence, they can’t get inside another fence so that will be all I need, right. I have about 10 acres I would like to keep her inside as our property line connects to a deer hunting club.
We never take our dogs away from our home. I’m guessing that would be the only reason I would need more than 1 fence

Which collar has better gps movement? Halo has told me there is no movement and spoton has stated 5-10 feet. What has been your experience. Thank you.
They both have drift but to be honest I find SpotOn to hold more accurate consistently.

Quick question: Do you have to close the fence? Can you have a start point at one corner of your house and have the finish point at the other end?
Yes you do need to create a loop.

I haven't been able to get the app to work. Each time I tap on the "add fence" icon the app crashes and so far I haven't been able to work out this bug in the app. Hopefully the virtual dog park will be able to give me some advice this week on it.
I would uninstall the app restart your phone and try reinstalling it.
@@KarmaDogSpeak So far I've tried that twice to no avail. They said it might be as long as a week before they might be able to work it out. It says it's compatible with my phone. Not sure what's going on. I'd really like to get it working because I have a lot of property I'd like my dog to be able to roam around on.

Hello. So glad I came across your account. Do you think Halo is worth it for suburban/small city fenced in lots? My concern is my dogs running away by escaping the fenced yard or running out of an open front door. I'm researching Halo and Fi.
Hey !! Thanks for the question. I wish I could speak more to a city environment. What I can say is you can call both companies and ask. They are both very good about noting your square footage and location. (They want the best fit for their product). You might want to checkout PET Safe wireless unit. It was not a good fit for our type of space. However it creates a boundary in the circumference of the unit (a circle).

Thank you for all of you videos on the Halo collar! I just got mine in the mail yesterday and got it all set up in the app. Now I just need to start training my golden doodle. I was curious what sound levels you use for feedback?
I like the higher setting on the sound (that's so I can hear it as well) overall it's a low to moderate volume. It also helps when I go to walk a setup fence and test out the collar.
@@KarmaDogSpeak one more question. Did you use the beacon for training? I can’t get it to work consistently where it will give feedback to the beacon. Was curious if you have any experience with the beacon?
@@Pepin555 well I was not impressed with the beacon and I worked around it and just trained her with out it. Same end result - I think that of been the inspiration for many of my videos I started creating.

Yes the fence is set in the collar and you can still access it remotely
