I'll keep posting this😁 Mastodon. For me anything from the Album Blood Mountain, and any Album up till now. Really any album by them😁 3 singers and great musicians.
Specifically, its about Hamlet from his point of view. At the very end, singing under the music is the Hamlet line "Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt”, and then it ends aburptly, just like Hamlet's life.
The abrupt ending still irks me. I remember downloading the MP3 off of Napster back in the day thinking that I got an incomplete copy or that the download didn't finish :-D
That's the beautiful thing about bands like dream theater. The course of their musical careers they make music that appeals to so many. Like Steven Wilson with Porcupine Tree and now the Steven Wilson band!
If you are going to continue doing full album reviews YOU MUST REACT TO "Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory." One of the best concept albums ever made, and my favorite album of all time!
YES, YES, YES !!!! I was going to say that. Metropolis was the first Dream Theater album I ever listened to. Still my FAVORITE. As far as concept albums it is second only to Dark Side Of The Moon.
That's exactly how it was supposed to end but you're supposed to hear the beginning of the next song. Go for it. You'll love it. The whole album is off the hook. They love Rush!
Whoa! Now Jamel getting epic with the mega-smash from the early 90s! Almost everyone was kranking this one. I had never heard anything really like it. Can definitely hear the Rush influence.
My uncle who was a promoter for their record company at the time got me in to Dream Theater when this album came out. I haven't stopped listening to Dream Theater since.

Still the absolute masterpiece and benchmark for every Prog / Metal / Progressive band for times to come. Late 80s and early 90s were such great times for masterpiece albums ... This CD is one of the greatest CD’s you can listen to from beginning to end, there is not a bad song on it. Pull Me Under is one of my all time favorite songs, and I have seen them perform it live on a few occasions, and its great. Thanks for giving Dream Theater some props, they are a great band. Keep up the great work!
Yes, the song is supposed to end like that. First heard this song on MTV's Headbangers Ball. It was my introduction to Dream Theater, and probably still my favorite.
I was never much of a metalhead, but as a drummer in high school when this came out, the double-kick drum work on this tune certainly caught my attention. The guy has some crazy chops.
Now that you've heard this you should watch O'Keefe Music Foundation's version to see a little girl belt out the lyrics while middle-shoolers hammer this out on live instruments like professionals.
As far as the abrupt ending goes this the explanation from Mike Portnoy When asked about the abrupt ending while at a drum clinic in Atlanta in 1999, Mike Portnoy explained "We had all this tension, and it just kept building and building, and we had no idea where to take it, you know? So we decided to just pull the plug on it, like The Beatles did with 'She's So Heavy'." Thanks so much for this reaction Jamel, loved it!
Portnoy lives 20mins away from me. My son went to school with his daughter and I saw him at a school function. I did a double take when I saw him because I never expected he lived my area. Pennsylvania btw.
This is the song that introduced me to Dream Theater. Remember seeing the video to this song on headbangers ball back in 93, and I have been a fan ever since.
I'm not the biggest Dream Theater fan (though not for a lack of trying, but I can appreciate them, and I do like AWAKE), but I still remember fondly my first reaction to this song; this, and "6:00"...both worth their weight in musical gold, to me.
Been known to entertain the good folk in the parking area at the local shops with this and other DT tunes myself.... I feel it's my civic duty to bring art to the masses....
Saw them when they had their first album w first lead singer. They opened for Winger and blew them away!! Lol This song was from their 2nd album and was a huge hit for them and started everything for them. Saw them in this tour too
First time I heard this song I was washing dishes at a restaurant while I was in high school. The cook was blasting it in the kitchen. The good ol days, lol.

One of the greatest bands to have ever walked the earth. You should try some of Liquid Tension Experiment. It's some of Dream Theater including John Petrucci and they're instrumental. Try Acid Rain Live. So good.
The drummer Mike Portnoy once mentioned they had The Beatles song "I Want You" in mind when they ended Pull Me Under like that. Also, the shorter version you mentioned was probably the radio cut.
I remember when my uncle introduced me to this album and the band. It was like a whole new dimension in music. It blew my mind. I didn't see a react video to "Take the Time" and you should definitely check that song out if you haven't, already.
Been listening to this band since Images & Words came out, and in 2005 I got to tour with these guys on the Gigantour summer tour. I watched them almost every night of that tour and they killed it every time. True musicians, all graduates of the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston.
I grew up loving this song and taking it for granted. My husband didn't appreciate it or them until about 2019 when we saw them in concert and now he's like " I get it now!!" They still bring it live as of 2019!!
We haven't heard a band this good seems like forever. This song set the radio on fire when it came out. No one would have believed that it would be their only hit song. Such a strange thing that the more virtuosic the band and music, the less likely they will be popular. Prior to the 20th century, the opposite was true.
A great epic of a song from their earlier work. Thanks for the play! A song that you and audience may really enjoy is one of their “ballads”: “Hollow Years” (the studio version from “Falling into infinity”).
I was soooo excited to see this pop up today! Dream Theater is like no other band. This is the first song I ever heard from them, when it came out. I think it was their first single. I was BLOWN AWAY. And that was the radio edit, so the shorter version! This entire album (and the next one, Awake) are masterpieces. And yes, this is a band that has songs leading into each other on albums. That is how it ends on the album. I would love to see you do more from this album or the next! Thanks for brightening my day!

Hello Jemel. Just watched this video. Due to your appreciation of Pink Floyd, and especially of Rush, I just knew it was only a matter of time before you found Dream Theater. Specifically this album, this song. It's so great you like/appreciate this. That said, if no one has yet suggested to you, I implore you to check out the debut album from Zebra. I respect your intent of compliment - however, none of the members of Dream Theater from this time period even have a college degree. John Myung and John Petrucci attended Berklee and met drummer Mike Portnoy there. They all dropped out their first year to become a professional band. They've devoted their time to that reality ever since and continue to create awe-inspiring music to this day. So, this is what happens when Professionals get together and create music. This devotion of time is what allows for the proper atmosphere to create progressive music. Fortunately, they got mainstream success, so that creativity can flourish... And we all can enjoy their creations! 🌎✌️🌱🎶
Dream Theater is arguably the most talented group of Musicians ever assembled. Much like Rush, guitar and bass player were childhood friends, added drummer while at Berkelee school of music. The three of them left school to form a band that would eventually become Dream Theater. My favorite tracks are Metropolis pt 1 and 2, the Count of Tuscany ( last song with original drummer) and Under a Glass Moon. Great reaction, you will really like a Dream Theater. Rush is their biggest influence
This band is GREAT in concert, I have seen them in concert several times and I have also met them (secondary lineup - post Mike Portnoy). Mike Portnoy is the original founder member and drummer. If you roll back on some UA-cam videos and where they get top drummers from around the world to interview & perform with them, eventually picking out their current drummer. One of my favorite bands of all time!! Incredible and humble human beings!
No pause, that´s a great description of the experience listening to this song!🤟 From the start i grinned and thought J´s not gonna pause in this one, then i saw the stankface and laughed out loud!😅😅 This song starts deep within ure deepest core n then builds into total divinity!!😜🤩🤟🤪
I will never forget when i was 15, my friend Pete, who was one of my guitar instructors, took me to a live show of Dream Theater in Long Island . Little did i know he was close personal friends with John. After the show we went back stage and he introduced me to the whole band. I think my jaw dragged on the floor that whole night. What a show they put on live. They were so down to earth, especially John Myung. I was one happy kid that night. Please go check out Yngwie Malmsteen’s Liar, one of my favorite songs of his. He is another god behind that guitar.
All these guys are absolutely technical wizards. Especially Jordan Rudess on keys since he often wears a Wizard hat. His keyboard rig spins around while he’s playing too.
LOL your reaction to the end was the same as mine and probably many other people the first time they heard it. this is one of their songs that actually DOESNT lead into the next one! Love the channel brother ✊🏼
Biggest commercial hit for a band who really didn't want to be commercial. Truly epic ❤️. This is the type of music Eddie Van Halen was meant to play. Imagine him shredding on here. Wow.
VERY good call not pausing that one, Jam. There are layers upon layers of tracks in there to pick out and enjoy and one leads right into the next. Images and Words was the ultimate rock-prog CD when it came out. I remember seeing this video on MTV late night and it blew my mind - especially seeing a 6-string bass for the first time alongside Petrucci shredding his ass off. (WHEW!)

So, this is what happens when Professionals get together and create music. This devotion of time is what allows for the proper atmosphere to create progressive music. Fortunately, they got mainstream success, so that creativity can flourish... And we all can enjoy their creations!

First time i ever heard these guys was this Album, been hooked ever since!
That is the correct ending. It does not transition into another song.
One of my all time favorite DT songs. The perfect rock song.
This might be one of the best songs i've ever heard....woah!!
First time hearing it!!
Good gracious!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It gets better, listen to the whole album with lyrics.
No pause, that´s a great description of the experience listening to this song!🤟
From the start i grinned and thought J´s not gonna pause in this one, then i saw the stankface and laughed out loud!😅😅
This song starts deep within ure deepest core n then builds into total divinity!!😜🤩🤟🤪
Please lookup and react to the cover version of this song that is from the O'Keefe Music Foundation channel. All kids under 18, and they crush it!
Thanks. Will do so
Their best album. By far.
I love the double bass (drums) in this song.
Wow this just tops off my saturday evening perfectly !
All these guys are absolutely technical wizards. Especially Jordan Rudess on keys since he often wears a Wizard hat. His keyboard rig spins around while he’s playing too.
So glad you check them out again. Definitely waiting for the next dream theater/ liquid tension experiment reaction
Wow.
Lost in the sky, clouds roll by...and I roll with them,
Arrows fly, seas increase and then fall again....
(WHEW!)
Mike Portnoy worshiped at the feet of the Professor, and you can hear it.
Have to give this a listen 🙏
When ever this song shows up on my iPod, I always get a sort of "Hamlet" or "Game Of Thrones" vibe. Awesome song and great reaction!
