Hey Vad... Good Video, but I have some questions. Can I edit a room so its not rectangular or square but has its corners cut off so it winds up having six (6) sides? And is there a way to spec an outside 6" wall once a room has been created with 4" walls on the inside? Next, where do I find a template for a garage door? Last question (today LOL)... If you want to create a floor plan for a whole house, is it best to outline the overall house shape and plug in rooms where they belong, or would you create all the rooms and simply paste them on a blank page... then maybe group or merge all the rooms? TIA for the advice and help.-Mike

Visio is frustratingly bad at making accurate floorplans. Things are constantly auto resizing, displaying units as a mixture of feet and inches instead of just inches, and you have to go 3 menus deep sometimes to edit stuff that should only be 1 menu deep. It's so bad I might as well do everything manually in CAD.

Hey, maybe this sounds silly but I really have no idea and is so desperate for help rn. 1. How tf can I delete the shape??, I've already click all the button but it's still not disappear. I usually just "cut" but it eventually just create more and more problem. 2. What should i do if the paper widh grow for like 200x times from the actual floorplan and make it appears like a tiny dot on a paper. I can't find eay to reshape the paper and no, there's no shape kn the edge of the paper. It's totally empty but somehow it didn't want to shrink😫
Specify the height and width of a shape The Size & Position window has fields for height and width where you can type an exact number and a unit of measure. For example, imagine that you have a small rectangular table that you want to fit into an office layout diagram. The table top is 1 foot, 9 inches by 1 foot, 5 inches. When you drag a rectangular table from the Office Furniture stencil, you see that the dimensions are 3 feet, 6 inches by 6 feet. Instead of using the resizing handles on the table shape to make it smaller, use the Size & Position window to set the exact size. Select the table shape on the drawing page. In the Size & Position window, select the value in the Width field (3 ft. 6 in.) and replace it by typing 1 foot 9 inches, and then press ENTER. Do not use a comma to separate measurement values, such as between feet and inches, or Visio will show an error. You can use a different unit of measure by typing the unit name you want to use. For example, you could type 21 inches or even .583 yard. Select the value in the Height field (6 ft.) and replace it by typing 1 ft. 5 in. The table shape is now an accurate representation of the size of the real table.

When trying to add dbl bi-fold doors in an L shape the y-axis door wont allow me to position it close and keeps snapping down to the centre of the x-axis one. how do I fix this?

I'm very sorry you think so - please try doing this: Select More Shapes > Visio Extras > Dimensioning-Architectural. Drag a dimension shape onto the drawing page, and place it near the shape you want to measure. Select View > Task Panes > Size & Position. Select a shape. Enter new values for Width or Height. I have been using SmartDraw for many years. How does Visio handle wall sizing such is 6" (5.5) and 4" (3.5) walls?
Specify the height and width of a shape

Instead of using the resizing handles on the table shape to make it smaller, use the Size & Position window to set the exact size.
Select the table shape on the drawing page.
In the Size & Position window, select the value in the Width field (3 ft. 6 in.) and replace it by typing 1 foot 9 inches, and then press ENTER.
Do not use a comma to separate measurement values, such as between feet and inches, or Visio will show an error.
You can use a different unit of measure by typing the unit name you want to use. For example, you could type 21 inches or even .583 yard.
Select the value in the Height field (6 ft.) and replace it by typing 1 ft. 5 in.
The table shape is now an accurate representation of the size of the real table.

When trying to add dbl bi-fold doors in an L shape the y-axis door wont allow me to position it close and keeps snapping down to the centre of the x-axis one. how do I fix this?

This goes from basic to advance in literally 1 second! Gluing controlling dimensions and walls to other geometry is very fiddly, any way you can go into detail with this?

can i use your file?
Didn;t cover the most basic function one needs to perform on Visio - how to adjust Visio room to match my actual dimensions. Useless. :-(
I'm very sorry you think so - please try doing this:
Select More Shapes > Visio Extras > Dimensioning-Architectural. Drag a dimension shape onto the drawing page, and place it near the shape you want to measure.
Select View > Task Panes > Size & Position.
Select a shape.
Enter new values for Width or Height.
Select a blank area of the drawing page to make the change.

Apparently anything pertaining to floor plans has been removed from Visio now.
I just used it as described here and the floor plans are all there. I have "Visio Professional"
