You're totally correct she's in an elite league of singers throughout time; Aretha Franklin, Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand etc...and very few others but for my money for what it's worth I think Lucy's voice is even more beautiful and emotive then the above mentioned.
I have listened to her version of this song so many times I actually lost count. This for me is by far the best solo version of the song (Not to exclude Martha's backup vocals by any means). Larry, It has been 1 year since you created this review of Lucy Thomas singing her rendition of 'Hallelujah'. Since then, not a single performer has come close to Lucy's level of perfection. Hard to believe she was only 16 when she performed this. I too was performing at age 16, but I never came close to what I am hearing from her. She is so good in fact, I have to remind myself Lucy is human. When you can run the scale both ways effortlessly on 1 breath, I take note. Come to think of it, this is first song I heard by Lucy. I was so impressed I have been following since. Anyone can sing good, can copy music, and add another check mark. But Lucy is not willing to be just good, Lucy wants to be the best. She is her own critique and pushes herself hard. It shows in every new performance as she beats her last song. Rumor has it Angels have to to Earth for singing lessons from Lucy. Did you catch how she can change the character of her notes by changing the shape of her mouth. I have never seen so much vocal finesse from someone still so young. Please pinch me to see if I am not dreaming this. How can anyone perform at this level? When a young performer can add perfect vibrato on mouthed sounds as a constant pitch and volume without running low on air is too amazing. Maybe this old dog has found his new bone, called Lucy Thomas. Forget using superlatives, we ran out of them 2 years ago. Now we write about Lucy's ability to use her music as she tells us a story. Put on your seat belt, Lucy is taking us places like no others. She has tapped our emotions so deep, personal, and consistent. In a different time and place, I wish I had signed her. G'day from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🍹🖐 Lucy is the real deal 👍 This girl is very young & will only get stronger in the Years to come ! She has amazing beauty & her tone in that lower register is so sultry & easy for her 👍 Whats not to like about this talented girl ? Lucy makes the hard sound so easy ! The world is at her feet .
She has been blessed in so many ways. Been listening to her for several months now and have never heard a voice as beautiful as hers and I am a die hard Celine fan! Her and her sister Martha will bring tears to your eyes as well as a duet. Keep them coming!
This song the best version I have never heard. She is the best singer in her world today. And the sister Martha is has amazing voice too. She only 19 years old, Thank you Larryshair for the best comments about Lucy Thomas.
Larryshair...What a great reaction to one of the best versions of Hallelujah. Lucy never disappoints. I love how she is able to give me shivers with every song she sings.
Loved and really enjoyed your reaction to this amazing young vocalist. Is there any better quality in a young successful person than humility?, I think that Lucy Thomas is one of those special young people, regardless of her success she seems to remain grounded and humble. Hats off also to those family, friends and other support people around her. ❤️😊
I agree 100%! Well said! It seems that, in the last decade or so, quite a few young artists have appeared on the scene -- Lucy Thomas, Angelina Jordan, Amira Willighagen, Dimash Kudaibergen, Laura Bretan, Diana Ankudinova, Aurora, and others -- who seem to have that common thread of humility and genuineness running through their veins. Sadly, there are many other established performers who seem to be self-absorbed narcissists whose only concerns are fame and fortune at the expense of their fans. Lucy is the real deal -- as beautiful inside as she is outwardly!
Lucy is humble but definitely not shy, she's the greatest ever singer, and one of the most beautiful ever young women I've ever seen, the most beautiful crystal clear voice and tone and amazing voice control ,sings with heart and soul, and as an added bonus, the most beautiful blue eyes and a smile that lights up the world ,what more could you want, of course she's best at harmonising also with her younger sister Martha, Will Callan is not bad either
I have been a diehard PTX fan since 2011 when they exploded onto the world. I was early saying they don’t do covers, they do upgrades. I have been saying that exact thing about Lucy. She upgrades everything she touches. Listen to her sing Evergreen, just wow!💥🔥💥
More than 2 weeks passed since this video. Waiting for another great reaction to Lucy talent, voice, beauty and soul. 🤔🧐👍❤️🤗🥰. Any Lucy's video is stunning, so you have a lot of choice👍
@@wilburfinnigan2142 Wilbur, that was the BEST 4 hours of your life, blown away by Lucy as you never heard or seen anything like her.......then "Rosie" steps it up a few notches, wow, if Lucy tours with "Rosie", that would be awesome!
Great reaction. If this has you in bits, try "The Pray" which Lucy does with her sister. Her range/power is incredible. Lucy is the find of the decade. I've been following her since her music debut of Moon River when she was only 13. It was that obvious she had something special.
I could listen to probably 50 different women sing this song, most of them probably singing it very well, but OMG this girl with her incredible and beautiful talent, her insane beauty and her humbleness, gets to me on a deep emotional level. What does that, how does such a powerful emotional overpowering link happen? Such a joy, sublime. Another Muse walking amongst us.
This is the only version of the song I have ever purchased after so many years and so many iterations. Lucy. by far, nailed this better than any other artist I've ver heard, I agree. If you haven't seen or heard, this version by Lucy was recently part of the score for a new amazon movie called On a Wing and a Prayer with Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham. I heard the song come on and knew, instantly, that was her rendition of it. I think this might very well be the song that propels her career and we may yet see many more soundtracks featuring Lucy Thomas.
*_Thank you for a wonderful and honest reaction to Lucy Thomas...._* Lucy has been singing since she was young, have heard as young as 7. Her first video was age 9. She is currently 18, has released 4 albums, and many singles. She is from the United Kingdom and signed a record contract right after The Voice - Kids UK at age 14. Lucy truly is one of a kind. Your reaction is typical of others hearing Lucy Thomas first time. I heard 'Hallelujah' the first time also. Lucy's technical singing skills are better then many pros with decades of experience. She was only 16 or 17 when she recorded this. When I first heard it, I almost fell out of my chair. I have over a decade of singing and acting experience. I had to play song over and over to make sure my ears and eyes weren't tricking me. They weren't - Lucy is the real deal. Lucy doesn't copy songs, she improves them. Her rendition of 'Hallelujah' is best I have ever heard, and I have heard dozens before. I have a standing bet no one will beat it. Even if they copied her, they can never do it as well. The song has many millions of view for a good reason - it is talent on a whole new level. Her technical singing skills are amazing; perfect breath control, multi-octave vocal range, exact note placement, her vibrato is so tight it doesn't vary more than a 1/4 note up or down. Her physical delivery skills help listeners connect at a very emotional level. It is as Lucy is standing in front of you singing a solo just for you. She is beyond amazing. *_Thanks again for a wonderful reaction..._*
I have been struggeling all day. Ruff day. Needed to cry but I couldnt. But this made me let go and cry. And it was nice to cry with you. Music is so amazing ♥️Thank you my friend
I just read your comment (January 18). May the Lord bless you in so many ways, and I hope you have an abundant new year of happiness, prosperity, and fulfillment!
Lucy Thomas...! Uncanny that you got hit the same way I did when I first heard her, 3 weeks back! I called that, "11" too! And a couple tears... . Just simply & solemnly blown away! Beautiful girl, amazing pipes! Yes, effortlessly & natural! Even though a stanza was not included, Leonard Cohen's (up there) quite surprised & bet please by her version of his masterpiece song. Did you hear whispers of Whitney Houston in there...?
You nailed it Larry, or maybe, she nailed you :) Don't worry, your not alone! I've watched this video many times and it just doesn't get any better. Her perfect voice is straight down the line; the background music and vocals; and her performance. Wow! As far as the "humility", it's just right. Lucy should hang on to it. She looks a little unsure that she can pull the song off, but no worries, she can. She starts off so sweet, then she builds, and... could it get any better? Yes, it can and does! She's like a powerful muscle car with the driver going through the gears. Top gear is coming and you just somehow know it won't let you down - and she doesn't! Man....she's stunning!
Yeah. I only discovered her myself a few weeks ago. She’s 18 now but was only 16 when she sang that. A lot more outstanding covers from her on UA-cam and also some not to be missed duets with her five years younger sister.
My favorite version has always been K.D. Lang's Juno Awards in Winnipeg in 2005 performance but this one by Lucy Thomas.....just wow. I'll be listening to both from now on.
Lucy is one of those rare talents who can become the new standard to judge other artists against.with her performances. Exceptional talent who has so clearly put a vast amount of time and dedication into learning her skill and also great teachers and support obviously to get her here. I rate here as good or better than talents like Linds Rhondstast or Karen Carpentar or Mama Cass Eliot. and only just turning 19 next month.
Her Beautiful voice Bless by The Almighty God,,, what and incredibly beautiful angelic face, her voice to match her Beauty from GOD ALMIGHTY NO DOUBT,, THIS CHILD JUST BLESSES ME IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. THANK YOU OH FATHER OF ABRAHAM AND ISIAC, JACOB PRAISE, IN JESUS CHRIST THY HOLY NAME🙏🙏🙏
I've always had the feeling that when Lucy sings a number like this, the camera is irrelevant to her. The camera IS there, she is conscious of it and glances at it now and then, but she is simply immersed in the music and the singing. Every word Lucy sings is clear and intelligible! We, the audience, can and will understand every word, every phrase she pours into the song. Regarding the background voices: It is highly likely that her little sister Martha AND her mother Louisa were part of it!
@@wilburfinnigan2142, I had no idea she had some amateur acting experience, but she seems to be a natural, she has an unique ability to convey EMOTION into any song. She always manages to reach out and touch my soul - and that goes double when Lucy and her little sister Martha do their duets. Recently even that was superseded when they did a song with their mother Louisa - now it's gone triple!
Your tears get me everytime Chris! What a wonderful way to end the week. Thanks darlin. Hope the new year is being kind to you and your family......HUGS,patti 🤗
Came back and had another look at your reaction to Lucy on this one. Glad to see that you have stuck with Lucy. Visited your reaction to bridge over troubled waters a handful of days ago. Lucy is just amazing. Best wishes for Xmas- I wonder if Lucy will release another Xmas song? 🙂
This is a really awesome cover. What is with these young singers. What is with these young singers? I mean we have Lucy Thomas (musical/pop), we have Angelina Jordan (Jazz/bleus), we have Amira Willighagen (classical/religious), we have Jadyn Rylee (pop/rock),and of course lots of other teen-singers. They are all 17-19 years of age now, they have each a unique voice/genre/stile and they all are giving us lots of emotion when they do sing. It is mind blowing and I love it to follow their musical dreams. It is not "who is the best" because they are all extremely talented and it is just a joy to see/hear them all.
The only 2 you've mentioned there capable of bringing me to tears because of the beauty of their voices are Lucy Thomas of course and Amira Willighagen, the others in my opinion are very good without being great. Connie Talbot is another relatively young singer who gets me tearful and Putri Ariani on occasions when she sings more softly and doesn't start shrieking. Jackie Evancho was phenomenal as a child soprano but unlike Amira she has somewhat squandered her potential in her early adult years
larryshair , she does indeed have a beautiful humility about her. However, I think the avoidance of looking into the camera comes from her theatrical training and background in acting. She is not just singing the song; she is acting it out in her mind, word inflections, facial expressions, eye movements, and other body language. In addition to a vocal artist, she is also a playwright, stage producer, and actress. For the past few years (partially interrupted by Covid), since the age of 14, she has co-written a play called "Rosie," along with several songs within the play, which is scheduled to premiere at London's famed West End Theatre either this year or 2024. She is not only co-writer and co-producer, but will have the starring role of "Rosie." It's a true story based on the life of Rosie Boote who, as an Irish orphan girl, escaped from a convent, traveled to England, joined a girls' chorus line performing in Edwardian stage comedies of that era, fell in love with a member of royalty, and became Marchioness of Headfort in 1901. She lived a very eventful life of joy and sadness. Long story short, I believe Lucy uses the avoidance of eye contact technique as part of her performance training. She often does, indeed, look into the camera, if it is conducive to the message and expression of the song. So, humility? Yes. Shyness? No.
If you are susceptible to getting emotional when listening to beautiful songs, and you intend to listen to Lucy singing with her sister Martha, be warned. Their song ‘You Raise Me Up’, sung when they were 16 and 11, really should come with the following warning - ‘Strong Risk of Making Grown Men Cry’. The risk is not much less with many of their other songs.
Larry Shair: I hope and pray you are in good health; in a recent reaction you said you were having some heath problem. Whatever, I have a STRONG recommendation. PLEASE play WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. I just played it 6 times TODAY! Got your reaction chills and had to use several tissues. It is the Best song in ROSIE, because it's a "message" cover. Lucy puts her whole soul into the verses, aimed to find love not hate in this fragile world. Don't let me down. Play it for your devoted followers....and let the tears flow. 😓
Hi from the 🇬🇧 Please react to her version of The Prayer with her younger sister Martha, it’s out of this world. There are a few others which are also very, very good 🥰
I'm from the same small town as Lucy. we have a lot of talent who come from wigan. If you get a chance take a look at the lathums.. Struggle or the verve... Bitter sweet sympathy.
Lucy Thomas now ranks right there in a battle for my favorite young female singer. It was always Jackie Evancho and the Lucy came along and jumped right up there with her. You are amazed that a singer so young can have that vocal control. I suggest you journey back eleven years to either her PBS special or her guest appearance on BGT to hear 11 year old Jackie do "Nessun Dorma" the aria from Turandot made famous by Pavarotti. I know you would think, how can an 11 year old tackle something like that. Listen and you'll know.
Lucy beats Jackie hands down. Jackie sang with a 'falseto' voice which worked till she was 12 years old. It exposed her flaws as she grew older. At 20 yrs age, Jackie best years are behind her and she is now a club singer at best. Lucy has the World at her feet in front of her at age 18 yrs. Apples to Oranges. Jackie received a tremendous boost from David Foster. If Lucy was bestowed with the same attention by David, Foster, she would be a world famous super star by now.
@@TheGecko213 And you now continue to show your ignorance. Since I guess I need to explain it to you, Lucy's voice is obviously geared toward the stage. If you've listened to her sing "Memory" from Cats or her several songs from the upcoming musical Rosie, which she's rumored to be starring in, you would realize that. Jackie's voice has been mischaracterized from the start as opera because at the start of her career, she performed concert forms of several arias. However, she has never claimed to be an opera singer nor ever wanted to be one. She was a classical crossover singer in the same grouping as Sarah Brightman or Katherine Jenkins. She never sang with a falsetto, that's her natural range. She has been experimenting quite successfully with other genres as she showed as The Kitty on Masked SInger. She did a whole album of modern Broadway numbers in her voice, not a theater voice. Her current album is in the folk genre as she covered Joni Mitchell songs. Finally to secure your ignorance, she's almost 23, not 20.
@@OldBoiler62 Jackie had a beautiful almost Mezzo-Soprano type voice as a child like you say like a childhood equivalence of Katherine Jenkins and I admire the fact she is influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell who is probably the greatest female singer/songwriter of all time but technically and emotively Jackie's voice is nowhere near as good as Lucy's then again nobody's is. Amira Willighagen is a much superior Soprano to Jackie and more likely to make the transition from Classical-Crossover into "Opera" then again had she not been distracted by poor lifestyle choices in her young adult years and a change to a Pop career there's every chance Charlotte Church would now be an opera legend but she lost focus at precisely the wrong time I believe Amira is on the right path.
'¡¡¡APRECIADO HERMANO!': --'¡LUCY THOMAS ES GLORIOSAMENTE PERFECTIVA A INFINITUDES INCOMPARABLES!!!' --'¡PODE'IS DISFRUTAR TAMBIE'N A STAR LIGHT, ...A EVERGRINM. !!! --'¡ES INCOMPARABLEMENTE GLORIOSA!!!'
I would like to see you react to Lucy and Martha's song "In the Arms of an Angel" first. Lucy was 15 and Martha was 10 at the time, i believe. Then react to them singing "The Climb". In The Climb I believe Lucy is 18 and Martha is 12, real close to 13 yrs old.
Also keep in mind she is well trained and well coached. I think every eye movement was planned. What a voice!, but don't mistake eye movements for shyness or humility. That said, she owned me from the beginning.
Yup..near as I can figure Lucy was 16 when she did this... So maybe you thought Dolly, Linda OR Whitney did the best version of "I will always love you"....HAH...think again (although BLESS Dolly for writing it)...
There seems to be so much really good and really young, new talent coming to my notice. Is this more than the past or just because the interweb makes it more visible? Comments on a postcard please to Chris.
You make the comment that Lucy Thomas is "shy" She was 17 when she recorded this cover. Also, Lucy has lost two years of exposure due to this pandemic. She is going head to head with some of the heaviest hitters in the music industry and her head is still attached to her shoulder. She will become the standard by which certain music is judged.

Absolutely Beautiful
Amazing Lucy has it all, from achingly sublime delicacy to awesome controlled power.
People throw the word prodigy around alot but it rarely fits until now. she truly is a prodigy
Larryshair...What a great reaction to one of the best versions of Hallelujah. Lucy never disappoints. I love how she is able to give me shivers with every song she sings.
She is quite incredible!
Her voice is a gift from God. I've heard it countless times, and it never fails to bring a tear. She's a very special young lady.
Beautiful and flawless
The best version ever at such a young age
BeautifulVoiceAndShesGorgeous GODBLESSHER🙏🌹
Music can move your soul. The words of this song ring true. The author was truly a wise man indeed.🤗
*_Thank you for a wonderful and honest reaction to Lucy Thomas...._*
Lucy has been singing since she was young, have heard as young as 7.
Thanks so much!

Great reaction!! She is absolutely amazing!! Thanks again for introducing me to her!!
Best vocal❤
My favorite version has always been K.D. Lang's Juno Awards in Winnipeg in 2005 performance but this one by Lucy Thomas.....just wow. I'll be listening to both from now on.
Jeff Buckley's was always my favourite version of Hallelujah but now it is Lucy's.
Love it!
Come on Larry how could you ever doubt that it wouldn't be the best version ever, especially after you had already heard her sing before
You are right!
It's okay. She does this to all of us. Oh yea and she was only 16!!! Best ever.
Your tears get me everytime Chris! What a wonderful way to end the week. Thanks darlin. Hope the new year is being kind to you and your family......HUGS,patti 🤗
Hugs back atcha my friend!
She's humble yeah and awesomely intelligent beautiful so sweet classy natural🌿🌸🦢
She brings tears to a couple of greybeards like us imagine being her parents and seeing this😊😊😊
Right?
I bet you have never heard this song, song as good as Lucy does it.
I would like to hear lucy sing one moment in time it would suit her wonderful voiceto a tee
Jackie Evancho was phenomenal as a child soprano but unlike Amira she has somewhat squandered her potential in her early adult years
Hi Chris! New artist for me. I really enjoyed the reaction and her voice is awesome. Hope you are doing well and your family too.
You as well! Yes, she is pretty incredible! What a great discovery!
Transcendent- thanks for another great review, and introduction to a gifted artist!
She us rhe absolute BEST ever! So beautiful too!
Sorry for a couple typos.
Very good reaction. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
larryshair , she does indeed have a beautiful humility about her.
This is the truth! Many times over in my case! It's almost a cleansing experience!
Hello
It's simple she's goddes voice from heaven.
A gift from God.. a talent God given ❤
Amen Brother!
Absolutely beautiful 😍
AMAZING LUCY !!!!
Check out her version of Make You Feel My Love
I love this song.
Hi from the 🇬🇧 Please react to her version of The Prayer with her younger sister Martha, it’s out of this world. There are a few others which are also very, very good 🥰
Please: The prayer👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lucy your going to the top!
Wow just wow
@@TheGecko213 You said one thing right in that whole ignorant screed. Comparing apples to oranges. Lucy and Jackie have completely different voices.
@@OldBoiler62
Genius Einstein !
Obviously how can two singers have the same voice ?? Not even twins do ,
😂
@@OldBoiler62
Jackie had a beautiful almost Mezzo-Soprano type voice as a child like you say like a childhood equivalence of Katherine Jenkins and I admire the fact she is influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell who is probably the greatest female singer/songwriter of all time but technically and emotively Jackie's voice is nowhere near as good as Lucy's then again nobody's is.
Amira Willighagen is a much superior Soprano to Jackie and more likely to make the transition from Classical-Crossover into "Opera" then again had she not been distracted by poor lifestyle choices in her young adult years and a change to a Pop career there's every chance Charlotte Church would now be an opera legend but she lost focus at precisely the wrong time I believe Amira is on the right path.

both her mother and her sister are fantastic singers...it could be both or either singing background.
Zo goed goud waard
I agree with all your comments. Would love to hear your wife’s thoughts.
In terms of her shyness and humility about looking into the camera, keep in mind she’s only 15 or 16 years old in this performance.
❤
There seems to be so much really good and really young, new talent coming to my notice. Is this more than the past or just because the interweb makes it more visible? Comments on a postcard please to Chris.
She did this recording at the age of 16.
Both Lucy and her sister have incredible talent!
