Larry, I'm 78 years old & have heard all the great voices of my lifetime, but this girl is absolutely my favorite...such power, articulation on both high & low notes, and feeling all combine in a stunningly beautiful young woman. I have never seen anyone who has impressed me the way this young English girl has.
This is an incredible performance by Lucy! The richness of her lower register along with the strength of her voice. This is one of her best performances.
Crystal clear, head voice and chest voice to perfection. Many phenomenal singers out there because they hit notes and keep a beat, but this young women is superior in her articulation and interpretation. She has a long career ahead of her.
You are absolutely correct in your assessment of Lucy - her performance is absolutely perfect. All your comments about her are right on. I also appreciate your over all commentary and expertise. It would be great if you did a reaction on each of her songs - it is worth it.
This young lady's voice is genuine and beautiful with no auto tune. If you listen to her live versions of these songs there is virtually no difference. That is the real test of a great talent and voice...live performances. When a singer can sound as good live as the recording, you know they are a genuine and legit talent. She has the whole package, beautiful clear crisp voice and stunning natural beauty to go along with it. That gorgeous face and blue eyes draws you in and makes you feel as if she is singing directly to you....just awesome presentation and interpretation of classic songs. Beautiful in the simplicity of the settings she sings in.
Thanks Larry outstanding reaction. I think most people that have followed Lucy for a while have just run out of words in the English language to describe just how great and wonderful singer Lucy is. I can say that I think this is maybe her best performance but that could be because of my love for this song. I read somewhere that this song is the favorite song of the past century. I think Lucy may just well have made this song the most favorite song of this century. Please my friend stay safe, healthy, and most importantly free.
Picture perfect live performance 'Style' going back to the 1950's when song was written and to 1960's when The Righteous Brothers recorded it, hit top of charts, and sold millions of records... Very accurate recreation of time period... dress... hair... microphone... delivery style... wise choice of dress color... it really brings out her beautiful blue eyes... Powerful Vocal Dynamics... range... tone... smoothness... accuracy... placement... breath control... perfect pitch... and Vocals match the Time Period perfectly... Also Amazing Physical Delivery... style...eyes... mouth... hands... expressions... she looks like she just stepped out of the 1950's... We adore Lucy’s clean image she portrays on and off screen... Best Regards... Steven - SJR Media Group...
She is a young and very beautiful woman who covers a wide range with her timbre. She sings so clearly that she touches the listener deeply. Simply incredible ❤
Been looking forward to your review. Well done Larry! What soul Lucy puts into this performance. She is feeling it, every word, every vocal, pulling at every heartstring. Lucy owns this song now in my opinion! Just love it!!
It's very difficult not to be infatuated by a young woman with equal visual beauty to a prime Katherine Ross or Elizabeth Taylor who also happens to have one of the most beautiful if not the very most beautiful singing voices of all time. 😂
To find out if. Lucy is using "Auto Tune" . You need to fully analyse the register using a wave oscilloscope. On the scope you should see 2x wave forms. The top wave will be the singer's voice, and directly alongside that, you will find the synthesised vocal (which is more of a square wave the an analouge wave. complementing the singers pitch and strength. In this case "Lucy" hasn't used anything to even suggest anything out of the ordinary. What you see from "Lucy" is the whole package. Though many singers do have this help at first in the early runs. Then, when they can master the rifts, forsetto's and trills, they like to refrain from anything being false... LUCY THOMAS is the power-house we have all been waiting for. Essex UK
Lucy Thomas is an Artist of all time and a versatile one, she has an incredible talent not only for singing but also for arranging songs, which proves that she can not only read sheet music but also write it, she can also talk to the producer, so it suits her, Lucy is also responsible for production the songs that he will perform and the charm that smuggles warmth, drama, smile and look at the listener into the songs because he knows that there is someone on the other side and that he is listening to her against the background of the silver screen
I absolutely love Lucy's choices in this version. Most singers use a lot of falsetto at the end, but not Lucy - she goes very high only once, and I'm not even sure if she used (or needed) falsetto for it. I found her version simply beautiful, just pure Lucy!
Best reaction to the new song by Lucy Thomas.. Thank You & greetings from Montreal..the home of Stefano Galante who mixed & mastered this amazing song. Wow
Lucy has proven over and over that it doesn't matter what she sings....it's going to be among the best, or THE best renditions of the song ever heard. She could make the dictionary sound elegant and powerful.
There have been and are many amazing singers. Lucy Thomas is the best I have ever heard. Bobby Hatfield's version of Unchained Melody is the standard. Lucy's version rivals Hatfield's. Every song she releases is done masterfully with an amazing tone, clarity, range, and control. On top of that, she is a beautiful young woman.
She did an amazing job. You mentioned Bobby Hatfield being the standard. For me, that performance in 1965, live on the Andy Williams stage , was the best performance of this song of all time. But she’s very good.
The fact that she is so high on the all-time charts is a credit only to herself, because she works hard for it, and to us, the listeners, because we support and score her work, so I think she should get an award from the Grama Music Industry and even a Crown from the Listeners for how beautiful it is. she performs every all-time song that she performed so beautifully. As for the Musical, I also think that she should get an award because the Musical is a different medium of communication, it is a story played out similarly to the Opera and here it should be an award given for the interpretation and character of the performance.
But apparently Taylor Swift is ranked higher in the charts despite sounding flatter then a burst tyre without auto-tune says it all about today's music doesn't it?...😂
@@tomwhite4736I think something has got lost in translation here. There is no such thing as an all time chart to my knowledge. I think he is saying as most people are, is that Lucy’s voice should be considered as one of the all time best. A subjective opinion at best.
Best version ever. I think that is a justifiable claim. It is certainly my opinion. Lucy is a vocal virtuoso of extraordinary talent. This performance showcases every aspect of her vocal talent to ultimate effect. I would also describe her as a musical genius. Thank you Chris for your comments and support.
Hi Chris. Great reaction as usual. She got you going on this one .What a beautifully done rendition of this song. This is another one she has made her own. Like you I wonder what she will sound like in 10 years. I have listened to many versions of this iconic song as it is one of my favourites and I can say this is the best version I have ever heard. Lucy is Just phenomenal. And here lies the problem people can´t accept it maybe jealousy as they support other artists. Unfortunately you get nasty vindictive people in this world. They don´t know what they are talking about .Autotune hasn´t been used for years as it was detectable ,they are referring to pitch correction .I have heard Lucy sing every where from the age of 9 Busking in the street, singing at the local Rugby match, at the Local Restaurant and in live concerts. On voice kids Wil i am said Lucy you are perfection your voice is the real deal. Lucy´s voice is dam near pitch perfect also pitch correction can not affect vibrato and you only get vibrato when your voice is in that perfect balance. and Lucy is famous for her Vibrato. You have Steve from SJR media on here he has made videos of Lucy and analysed her voice. Also at the Manchester concert there was a questions and answers section and I am told that Lucy and her manager were asked if she uses pitch correction she said she never has and never would. So I know who I am going to believe. After that long winded rant. Thanks for reacting to this Chris and I will continue to keep you informed when Lucy releases a new song. I am Waiting for "Don´t cry for me Argentina" Stay safe my friend.
Colin, I might be wrong but I don’t recall pitch correction being discussed on stage in Manchester. That would be an odd subject for that situation. Someone may correct me.
@@AlanIngerson Were you at the concert ? As on a previous reaction Someone said that Lucy and her manager were asked this in the Q&A segment of the concert that´s were I got it from. I will ask the question on the fan club as many from there went o the concert.
Hello, sir! Miss Lucy Thomas has in her voice all the known and unknown gems of this world. The question is: are they only from this world? Greetings from Croatia.
I just love and appreciate your reaction Larry to this masterpiece, my tears are flowing, this has to be Lucy's best so far absolutely amazing talent she is ❤
Lucy embodies perfection, we have the impression that this voice comes to us from elsewhere. You translate the feelings of his entire fan club very well. Bravo Larry
Great reaction Larry. Lucy Thomas is phenomenal each performance is perfection and her live performances are as spectacular as her studio versions. Loveliest voice in music today. The brightest star in the industry.
Larry, I have been waiting a week for you to react to this. I left an honest heart felt comment on another's reaction to this song, which Lucy acknowledged. I knew you would just love Lucy's rendition. You did not disappoint. Your excitement for her eloquent execution and vocal performance was priceless. Her performance was indeed masterful and magical. I search everyday for something of Lucy's I have not heard yet. There is no doubt about it. I am terminally infected with Lucy Thomas Syndrome and love it. As Elvis was and still is the King, Lucy Thomas will soon be the Queen.
It's not auto-tuned it is pitch corrected there's a subtle difference, it doesn't diminish or undermine Lucy's amazing voice in any way to suggest pitch correction might have been turned on during post-production because literally every singer in the world goes through that process nowadays regardless of their reputation which is why I always judge artists by the quality of their vocals live in concert and Lucy has already illustrated she's the best in the business and actually sounds all the more amazing live without all the studio razzmatazz.
Lucy Thomas does 'NOT' use auto tune!,some of her recordings have been pitch corrected, though that is nothing to do with her,it is in the production which seems to happen throughout the music industry nowadays!,you only have to go to Lucy's live performances to see what an outstanding vocalist she is & in my opinion the finest on the planet,I have listened to A J's version which in itself is as very fine version, but to me Lucy has the edge over everyone,it's not just the voice,it's her presence & the sprinkling of stardust she possesses, she is a gift to us all!😊💖
That is my understanding. Touch-ups here and there, but her full vocal range, breath control, shifts in octaves and the sheer beauty of her voice at certain registers is all natural.
Angelina jordans version is more than fine imo . Although rather subdued and restrained , that was the intention for that particular event being a tribute to nobel prize winner " narges mohammidi " , and performed totally live .I will point out though that this Lucy version which is also fine , is not live it's a official music video, so she is lip syncing to a pre recorded track ( standard in the music business ) .
She is unbelievable!! Her vocal skills are magnificent! Please catch up on the other LIVE performances from Manchester concert when you have time - Her low register in "At last" is off the hook. One of the better live performances you will ever see/hear. The other 2 (We can change the world &Hallelujah) are also Stunning - listening to any of these should immediately dispel any of those "auto-tune" shouts from the haters. It's so easy to say such things - with absolutely no basis in truth or fact. She sounds exactly the same - maybe even better Live - that is truth in my book. Thanks for your reaction - I always enjoy them!!
In my opinion the reason she sounds even better live then in the studio is because we hear her full natural vibrato which can sometimes be compressed and squeezed by pitch correction technology in a studio environment, it is a compliment to Lucy's phenomenal voice that she's as near to pitch perfect as is humanly possible in a live environment without auto-tune. Fil from Wings Of Pegasus wasn't trying to undermine her talent and acknowledged the fact she's better live where her voice is more raw and less processed, as for that absolute troll and complete idiot Dishonest Composer he isn't even worth the time of day!
It's a pointless exercise attempting to pitch correct vibrato, since it consists of a varient of the note -- a vibrating frequency, above and below the actual pitch. It makes no sense that Chris Broom would go anywhere near such technology with Lucy's incredible instrument. Autotune should be banned and allow the artist to perform, warts and all and the best singers will be successful.
Angelina? C’mon. Listen again. She makes ugly choices, not pp. and that empty gaze. Lucy is the real thing. Stunning live in Manchester, some tiny flaws due to nerves in the first song but that’s it. This one is her best, I think. Warm low reg. Crisp high. So mature for 20yo! Love her.
I want you to know I was raised by an Irish Tenor night club singer. So, I do know a little about good singers and to me I cannot accept Angelina Jordan a good singer. To compare Lucy Thomas to her is just wrong. Lucy is as they say the real deal.
@@tomwhite4736why would they? I only need Lucy to sing everything from now on, there’s no reason to have hate for anyone else. Others are good too but Lucy is next level
Chris, that was the best reaction I've seen in a long time. Fun to watch. She has that effect on me as well. Her best yet. Need to break out the thesaurus for more superlatives. What an angel. And the smile is just the cherry on top.
Larry a friend of mine went to see Lucy in concert and he said her live version of hallelujah was even better than her original version. I think the only auto she uses is the automobile to go home after her recording session. Love your work.
Ask Stefan Galante if they use auto tune. He is the one who is the mix & master engineer & he is from Montreal, Quebec. Chris Broom does not select just anybody but a true expert.
She's done it again with the Lucy magic. What a brilliant rendition of this song. You better be good to take on this classic -- well nothing to worry about there then. Enthusiastic reaction as usual Chris and well deserved. This subject of Pitch Correction and Autotune keeps cropping up with these doubters, only because they don't think it's possible to be this good. Autotune is used in post production where ANY NOTE that doesn't hit the 440hz standard pitch ,( used to tune all instruments, ) wiil be squeezed to the pitch. Push a button and the whole piece is altered. The producers sit back and let the damn machine do the work. It's been used live but it has been known to go wrong, just ask Michael Bubly. If you've. got a good ear you can hear Autotune as it can sound robotic. Pitch correction however is a manual process, that corrects individual notes only, at post production. Unfortunately Autotune has become an industry standard tool, and a lazy way to save time and money. Chris Broom knows better!!!
I think they might be using a small tweak here and there of "pitch correction" during the production process of her studio recordings like this but they certainly aren't auto-tuning her live or using ridiculous vocoder effects like so many Pop singers around now post 90's when it was pioneered by Cher's single Believe in 1998. I wouldn't say Lucy is a one in a million vocal talent because she's in actual fact more like one in a billion!
All this conspiracy theory blithering about pitch correction is really getting old. If you played the same recording with and without the typical amounts of pitch correction used, 99 out of a hundred people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. And yet probably many of those 99 are really up in arms about it.
@@randysimon7363 So true Randy it is getting beyond a Joke some clown trying to make money puts this in peoples minds. Lucy is beyond belief. I agree with you Larry, that she is the best vocalist alive today. Like you I have always been a big fan of Karen Carpenter. A couple of years ago I saw (can't remember where) an electronic analysis of Karen using similar software used by "The Dishonest Composer" (what an appropriate name). But it was done to highlight Karen's gift, not to attack her. She routinely nails notes and holds them. "The Dishonest Composer" would have to swear that she used autotune (which of course did not exist when those recordings were made). This guy's only criteria for spotting "autotune" is the singer nailing a note transition and holding it, which is precisely what Lucy does, even in the older recordings made in her home studio. I wish someone would lay this to rest. Ironically he says that Angelina Jordon isn't autotuned on the same song because she does not nail the notes as well. The reason this upsets me is that (1) I love Lucy and (2) this guy clearly does not have the technical expertise needed to draw the conclusions which he draws. His simple rules are not capable of distinguishing autotune from perfect pitch. "The Dishonest Composer" even claims that the Manchester concert was autotuned. There are many problems with this. I don't think Lucy would have permitted that. In any case Lucy's first song did have a couple of small issues (she was understandably nervous!) - the very thing autotune would have corrected. Some people just get off on trying to make a name for themselves by bringing others down to their level. My opinion of course. OK I feel better now getting this off my chest. Larry I love your reactions, especially of Lucy and Martha. Thanks. More please.
Well said Mike - although I am totally quiescent about the use of post pitch correction with Lucy's videos (if it is used!) since it is only a miniscule component of what she brings to the table with her supernatural vocals and presentation. 😊
@@michaelhingley4770 A good point that I should have made. Lucy in my opinion is a once in a lifetime vocal artist. Nothing says that better than the look on Larry's face. It just irritates me that some people use the possibility of pitch correction as a way to diminish the wonder of what Lucy does with her divine voice. There would be no point in even mentioning it otherwise. Some people just have difficulty believing that Lucy is as good as she clearly is. It is impossible but it is real. Beyond that she just seems to be a decent human being, the kind of person you would want as a friend. There are some very talented singers out there who just seem to be full of themselves. I think Lucy understands how much joy she has brought into people's lives and that is what drives her, but it doesn't seem to have changed her. You called it supernatural. Well said. That is precisely what it is.
They are doing it for money as people watch that get views and views are money. I read up on this and it appears although Autotune came out in 1970 (It is no longer used as it was easy to detect and had a habit of distorting the voice) They have been manipulating recorded sound as far back as 1940.
If one of those comments you read about auto-tune was me then please don't misunderstand me as trying to denounce Lucy's incredible talent because nothing could be further from the truth. Most contemporary artists are pitch corrected in the recorded process whether they are bad singers or exceptional ones like Lucy, it is live and only live for me where artists can truly be judged and that has always been the case. Lucy is the best of the very best!
Larry, the look you gave about 3 seconds in said it all lol. Great response. Always enjoy your reactions and take on things. As for any speculations of auto tune, (which I seriously doubt), my reaction is so what? If she sounds good, (which she obviously does), then I do not care. If i was extremely wealthy I would hire her to be my personal singer. I am always dumbfounded when I hear her sing. The dynamics were great in this song. She just has this amazing ability to move you emotionally. I see that you were smitten too. The message, the delivery, the jaw dropping beauty, the voice that melts, the song itself. Everything is so strong.
Auto-Tune can scrub up a rough diamond but it cannot polish a turd, singers who have mediocre or bad voices will always sound such no matter how much production is thrown at them. Lucy clearly has an exceptionally beautiful voice with or without auto-tune / pitch correction!
I have probably heard her sing this 20 times now. Was so waiting for your review. How can she be improving from perfection and OMG if she even gets 5 percent better as she ages. Those other singers you mentioned are good but nowhere near a Lucy performance. If she was a hockey player she would have made Wayne Gretzky look like an amateur. Easily the best ever in my book.
Exactly. She doesn’t strike me as someone who’d allow her voice to be altered. Her natural talent and raw power are quite well established and obvious. Lucy is truly gifted and a joy to listen to.
@@yaronsteinbuch3956 How much input and creative control does she have during the post-production process though? Sometimes in the music industry especially on major labels what an artist wants and what an artist gets don't necessarily go hand in hand especially younger artists. I don't believe Lucy would willingly want to be pitch corrected but are her producers tweaking her voice as soon as she walks out the door?...I'd like to think they'd be able to hear any additional plug ins are totally unnecessary but with the way the industry works nowadays nothing would surprise me.
@@adamknight7041 Well, I’m not an expert in the music industry and don’t know how much control she has over her work. I’d like to believe her voice is unaltered and assume that is apparent in live performances. I also assume experts have the means to detect autotuning. I’m sure there are many post-production inputs that don’t rise to the level of autotuning and are perfectly acceptable. But, like I indicated, this is beyond my area of expertise. I just enjoy her remarkable voice and talent.
Larry, I very much appreciate and enjoy your generous and heartfelt reactions, but I have a few issues with this one. Because auto tuning and pitch correction are so widespread in the recording industry, and since you have no idea how much correction if any was added in post, your comments were not helpful and only served to cloud a brilliant performance. Lucy’s very slow tempi and the rippling piano accompaniment in the early parts of the song were obviously intended to evoke the lonely heart’s yearning to rush to the sea. I fail to understand why you brought Angelina Jordan into this reaction, since their vocal mechanisms and styles are so different. Both are wonderful artists who shine on their own without the need for the other’s reflection. Finally, to conclude my rant, I feel that Lucy did not run out of breath at the end but, rather, that Lucy and her team decided that a 1950’s style orchestral coda was a great way to garnish this aural and visual confection.
Larry, just when you think Lucy cannot get any better, she drops another video! Yesterday, “One Moment In Time “ was released. In 24 hours she has amassed 100K views. Why you may ask? Because in my opinion, Lucy is even better!!! How can a 20 year old girl who is 5 1/2 feet tall have the lung capacity and breath support of a Pavarotti? How can she consistently get better every song? When she peaks, many years from now, it will be simply glorious!!! She is already surpassing the greats!!!
I’ll find out for sure, but what about her live performances, she belts them out like her studio recordings. Larry, everytime I hear someone say “oh they must be using something to clean it up” they are just jealous because they or someone they know can’t do what Lucy does. You say it all the time ; pure perfection!!!!
Hi Chris I have been waiting for you to react to this one from Lucy. Of course I enjoyed Lucys cover immensely however to see your reaction also adds another dimension for me as sometimes I am bewildered that not everyone on the planet knows or has listened to Lucy and I often look to reactions to see evidence that Lucy is becoming better known and recognized for her unique talent and universal appeal. Lucy is absolutely amazing and this is another example of her perfection. I have enjoyed your journey reacting to Lucy and acknowledge that you have reached the same conclusion as many of us in the knowledge that Lucy is the best of the best!
Yeah, Larry, great reaction. Anyone assigning auto-tune to Lucy is just a clueless detractor with too much time on their hands and less than a life. I'm no studio sound technician, but it's my understanding that auto-tune doesn't work well, if at all, with vibrato, and Lucy's vibrato is one of her calling calls. It's ridiculous to even speculate on, but detractors will detract. If the studio does any polishing and cleaning up of a soundtrack before releasing it, well, I suppose that's their business... literally. Regardless, when we're watching and listening to fabulous Lucy, we're seeing and hearing fabulous Lucy, and this was just a fabulous example of that, and rendition of such a great, iconic song. Keep up the great support! Love seeing your reactions. --Jon
Larry, you need to go to LucyThomasmusic and check out some of the rock songs she does like Desperado by the Eagles and I don’t want to miss a thing by Aerosmith. She covers so many different genres.
Another beautiful version of Unchained Melody was just released on UA-cam by Life in 3D. And for a completely different approach to this classic song check out Manhattan Transfer's beebop version.
Lucy does NOT use auto tune!,I she was asked about it & stated no she does not, that's good enough for me!,I don't know about pitch correction,of so that will be used by the production team # in most case does nothing to enhance the finished product!,as regards to some saying she does use A.T. they are probably trolls out to cause mischief as they have nothing better to do!,Lucy is a Superstar, end of!.
She's absolutely the real deal inside and out. Lucy's road has been a very selective one and not really geared toward the mainstream. But now she will begin turning heads simply because everyone will be forced to give her accolades for that voice, perfect pitch, and range.
Hello thank you for this reaction " Unchained Melody " by Lucy Thomas, this has to be one of her greatest covers, you mention Pitch Perfect well how can you Pich Perfect her special quirks she adds to all her songs, her warm purity of her voice there is no machine in the world that could make her voice sound any better, Take care Barbara.
If you listen closely to Lucy you may notice that she has a very slight tendency to pronounce "S" as ""SH" . If her voice was doctored in any way these would be "corrected". Also, listen to her very early performances during lockdown with just a hand microphone or when she was on Voice Kids. She hits the note spot on every time.
Just to be sure I understand, you are saying that Anne Hathaway’s acting performance singing I Dreamed a Dream as Fantine, for which which she won an Academy Award, was better than Lucy Thomas’ acting while singing the song. Is that it?
Just a singer recognised by experts in the music business as a exceptional talent . Producers , songwriters , grammy winners and numerous top artists. dont like a singers style , then there are more respectful way to express it .At aged 78 you should now that .
I understand why you keep warnimg her about Hollywood because louisa johnson winner of the xfactor ended up in a facility to recover after simon recked her she is on the road but I would hate to see that happen to lucy
Louisa Johnson very recently collaborated with grammy winning songwriter Toby gad .For his next album piano diaries , btw so did Angelina jordan . Both artists also performed with Toby , at the London palladium .
There is a reactor Wings of Pegasus, his name is Phil. Hehas monitoring software and did one of her songs. Yes she's pitched corrected. When he looked he didn't understand why because she didn't need it. He says they just do it nowadays unfortunately.
Yes I have seen him. Now my friend, in order to catch pitch correction a person would need a very fast processor and the software with an extremely high sample rate. A home computer won’t work. Who is the people that certified the computer matched with this software. How do I know this. I am an Electrical Engineer with 35 yrs of high speed processing experience. So please cool your heels on this information.
@@jimivison5837 You make an assumption that a professional in the music industry doesn't have access to professional equipment.... he does... your 25 years in EE specialized in Recording Studios ?
Granting that he does have access to professional equipment, without a comparison of Lucy’s raw and edited recordings we cannot ascertain the amount of pitch correction added in post. Some singers, after all, are more near pitch perfect than others.
@@LonMendelsohn-hv2jr Thanks for comment... Lucy's live performances are almost as good as her studio ones. No pitch correction on stage singing live. Good point, just because Lucy's pitch stays so close to baseline notes, we can't assume it has been tweaked. I hear her vibrato staying within plus or minus a 1/4 note from baseline, that is seriously good vocals.
@@SJR_Media_Group I have seen this Guy A guitarists I think. I don´t agree with him but .What is annoying why pick on young up coming artists like Lucy. As he says its done to everyone well let him pick on Taylor swift for example. I do not like people like him he just wants views .
Larry, 2 online sources, "Wings of Pegasus" and "DisHonest Composer Reacts" ("Wings" seems far more professionally technical) have shown with graphs not full auto-tuning for Lucy, but touches of pitch correction here and there - both in older songs, "Run" (Lucy, 15) and "Hallelujah" (Lucy 16). "Wings" goes into specific technical explanations, the other seems to have no equipment of his own. Lucy and her manager, this year, told meet-and-greeters at the Manchester concert that she doesn't use pitch correction now, and the live concert videos would seem to bear that out. Since about 2000, 90+% of singers use pitch correction. It is standard. "Wings" said she doesn't need it.
Wings must be a fairly rich person. Because a high speed data acquisition processor cost big bucks. It’s not a PC. It is a very high speed processor with scan rates of 3 nanoseconds or less. It has a specific operating system designed to do only one function. So maybe Pegasus has the money. I am not a sound engineer but I am an Electrical Engineer that has help design, engineer, test, and certify such systems. Maybe Pegasus has such a system. I can’t say.
@@jimivison5837Fil from Wings of Pegasus always refers to pitch correction software. He also has a trained ear and can (he says) tell immediately if a vocal performance has been pitch corrected.

My wife is a diehard Whitney and Celine fan. Kind of biased but she does love Lucy's voice. I just don't think her mind is really opened to giving up the throne to an up and coming vocalist lol
I'm like you. Karen Carpenter along with Linda Ronstadt were my favorite female singers. I think Lucy has replaced them. Not only her voice but her beautiful expressions and feeling she puts into her music. Great reactions
I am a huge huge fan of Lucy. I think many of her covers are better than the original but this is my favourite song and to me nobody will ever surpass Bobby Hatfield. I am in no way a technical expert and Lucy is probably a superior singer in terms of singing perfection but Bobby's rendition simply broke the mould.
Yes, Lucy performed this as a tribute to the 1965 Bobby Hatfield live cover on the Andy Williams TV show, but she has made it her own by slowing it down and adding her own embellishments (Lucyisms). Only someone as supremely skilled as Lucy, with her breath control, range, vibrato, and tone, would have been able to achieve this level of perfection - and there is only one Lucy Thomas! 😊
Your previous reactions about Emma Kok and Lucy Thomas remarking how great they are. Your comment was “like to hear more”. Why haven’t you? You have not reviewed Emma‘s latest song “Dancing on the Stars” with Andre and Lucy‘s “One Moment in Time.” Both released this month . Absolutely fantastic performance by Emma and Andre and Lucy Thomas solo !
Larry, it’s pitch correction not autotune. Autotune is crude and often obvious and CAN BE DONE LIVE. Pitch correction is post only. You can hear pitch correction sometimes but you need software to see it. To me this sounds clean. Tori Holub doesn’t use pitch correction or autotune at all ever. I don’t think Lucy does but only pitch monitoring software with the instruments stripped out will tell. My ears say Lucy is clean. She has more to lose than gain by using it. Well, technically it’s her producers, unless she’s like Tori and can use software. I saw Fil prove Carrie Underwood was pitch corrected on a Christmas song, broke my heart as she can sing her ass off. On a side note. I recorded Tori at the 55th Anniversary, live, my iPhone. I stripped the piano and ran her vocal. She slammed on notes like nobodies business. Almost flat lining many. Someone would say pitch corrected. EXCEPT I recorded it in a church! No autotune at a Carpenters event. She is pitch perfect like crazy! You need to do more Tori, ya know? She gave you a TIA, she deserves another chance to knock you over. BTW, Tori has a short of Unchained Melody. Not bad at all. I got a couple that will blow your mind, I think anyway. And neither is a Carpenters song. So no comparison to Kacie. How to do this? Joe
I have spent years both in front of a mic and behind one in production. I have analyzed many of Lucy's songs, using isolation software to strip away vocals, backing vocals, piano, string, wind, guitar, drums, and keys. Instruments properly tuned stay in key and won't deviate from normal pitch. Human voice is a bit different. I checked out Fil and he is the real deal. He knows what 440 Hz is and what human voice isn't. I can pull out individual instruments, all tuned to 440 Hz, and they stay in tune long enough to finish song without going out of tune. People can be close, but natural variations adds warmth and a sense of humanity. Not sure if post production is tweaking her voice, she doesn't need much. I have 3 different programs, each use different methods of isolating voice. Without instruments masking voice, can detect partial flat, but rarely.
@@SJR_Media_Group we are in a crazy post production gone mad world. The software is killing music. Tori and I believe Lucy are clean to me. Fil analyzed Tori on two episodes in March. Clean. I recorded Tori like I said. My video is on my channel so you can click through to it. It’s the first one up. iPhone to UA-cam nothing in between. She’s amazing and Lucy is amazing. There still is some natural talent out there. Gotta keep the producers gone pitch mad away from them.
@@jbs256 Thanks for comment. Lucy's vocals are so clean, many do suspect post production tweaking. Not saying they don't, but the sound engineers at her record label love her. She makes their job so easy. I'm old school, most I ever add is EQ and Compression to clean up noise, then add the dynamics from what was stripped away.
@@SJR_Media_Group Jim and Tori have said: some EQ and a little reverb. So nothing Richard didn’t do back in the day. Since you are an audio guy. Have you noticed in, It’s Impossible and the short “Sam” Tori has a U87! Gurl is gettin’ serious. ❤️ And have you seen the 2 Fil episodes on Tori? That was because of me. I misunderstood what he meant by a cover. I said this was the best cover of a Carpenters song I’d ever seen. Oops. Serendipity struck.
@@jbs256 Thanks for comment... I listened to her, amazing talent and young enough to get much better. Nothing wrong with covers... actually harder to perform than original work. When we create originals, we already know the back story, lyrics, and notes. Public is used to us performing them the way we always do. But trying to perform a cover as good as original is hard. Public already expects us to sound like original artists. Side note: tribute bands only do covers of 1 group and they they can get very good at it.
I hope people won't mind if I philosophize a little. I have been trying to put into words why I love Lucy's singing so much, but have difficulty appreciating Angelina Jordan. Both are talented and both have devoted fans. I am not going to change any allegiances. Don't want to. Just trying to understand. The things that Larry calls "gymnastics" are just tools that all really great vocalists have to master to be great. The runs, vibrato, tempo changes, breath control, facial expressions, and so on are tools of the trade. Larry calls them gymnastics, I think, because she has mastered them and has the incredible and rare ability to know instinctively how to combine them all into an interpretive masterwork. Everything that Lucy does is done to serve the music, to draw attention to the message, not to draw attention to Lucy. I never noticed all the intricacies of her singing until they were pointed out to me. I just knew that she drew me into the music in a way that I have never experienced before. If Lucy continues to develop, she will be remembered for generations. Is that true of any of the usual modern divas? I doubt it. Maybe Karen Carpenter, though she wasn't a diva. Maybe Barbara Streisand. Who else? Angelina Jordan? In my opinion, she is a long way from mastering the basic tools. She has her own gymnastics, and people love them, but in my opinion they exist to draw attention to the singer, not the song. Lucy's "gymnastics" are an integral part of her interpretive goals. That is why they are hardly noticed by amateur interpreters like me. Angelina's gymnastics are front and center and immediately draw attention to the vocal tricks, and away from the music. That is my opinion anyway. The first thing that I noticed the first time I heard Lucy was the beauty of her voice and how she enabled me to see the music in a whole new way. I learned to love some genres that I never would otherwise have cared a bit about. The first thing that I noticed when I heard Angelina sing was the verbal oddities and tricks, not the music. All great artists have to master the basics before finding their own style. Lucy has done that. I hope that as Angelina matures she will as well. But in my opinion she is not there yet. I hope I haven't stirred up a hornets nest.
Yes your right, these two singers are on different paths. Angelina is leaning towards a more jazz influence where as Lucy will be performing in a musical. However Lucy is totally adaptable to any Genre and she can do Jazz and everything else just look at the 60 plus covers she's performed over the last seven en years. This recording isn't Autotuned. Nowhere are any of the notes squeezed.
@@tomwhite4736Hi Tom, as I explained in an earlier comment- using autotune should be a last resort for singer who just cant hack it. But it's now become an industry standard. The whole piece is corrected from start to finish by the push of a button. Pitch correction is a manual process of individual notes that the producer feels a tweek is required. It should all be left banned..
@@tomwhite4736 You think she is lip-synching? Why? This is a live in-studio recording, with probably a prop microphone, with a (boom?) microphone over head. Watch her closely as she sings, especially her throat movements during vibrato, and it clear that she is singing live, as is true of almost all of her studio recordings. And please let us never mention "autotune" again. She doesn't use it. She has a tremendous production team behind her and they know what they are doing. Lucy has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard and she is just beginning her career. Watch out world! Kit
@@tomwhite4736 Lip synching is impossible to do perfectly, especially with all the "gymnastics". There is no evidence at all of it in this video. Claims that Lucy is using lip synching, autotune and pitch correction, are all gratuitous, without justification or proof. The question of whether or not Lucy is capable of producing a video like this without them can be settled by simply looking at the entire body of her work going back 6 years. The early home studio songs are clearly unembellished and just as amazing as the new stuff. The only question in my mind is why some people would want to go to the trouble to argue that these gimmicks were even necessary. I am not a psychiatrist so I can't say. The bottom line in my view is that there are some people who have trouble believing that Lucy as good as she clearly is. One more thing: the Manchester concert could not have been lip-synched, unless they did re-recordings of all 17 songs. And why in the world would autotune be used in such a venue, if it were even possible. There were rare imperfections that would not have made it through the autotune process and people on the front row would have heard the pristine voice. Enough already.
@@MikeBush-dg2dp Hi, Mike. Have you seen Lucy's blooper video? It is a blast. Layman showed on his channel. And thanks for backing me up. You said what I would have said. Kit
Juan: I am just about your age and totally agree with you. Lucy is the total package.
Yes articulate power - not usually a combination seen commonly. Agree 💯 😊
Larry, she is about as awesome as you can get. I love hearing her sing. I have cracked up laughing at you! You are great. Thank you. 😂 11:16
Thanks so much!
We ran out of superlatives long ago... maybe we need to invent some new ones...
Picture perfect live performance 'Style' going back to the 1950's when song was written and to 1960's when The Righteous Brothers recorded it, hit top of charts, and sold millions of records...
Very accurate recreation of time period... dress... hair... microphone... delivery style... wise choice of dress color... it really brings out her beautiful blue eyes...
Powerful Vocal Dynamics... range... tone... smoothness... accuracy... placement... breath control... perfect pitch... and Vocals match the Time Period perfectly...
Also Amazing Physical Delivery... style...eyes... mouth... hands... expressions... she looks like she just stepped out of the 1950's...
We adore Lucy’s clean image she portrays on and off screen...

She is a young and very beautiful woman who covers a wide range with her timbre. She sings so clearly that she touches the listener deeply. Simply incredible ❤

Essex UK
Autotune is incompatible with vibrato, so no, no autotune being used here.
Absolutely stunning, her voice is unrivalled today! One of the best female singers out there! 🎤🎶 #music #talent #diva
'One of' ? 😊
No, the best!
Wow
Thanks so much!
I listen to her everyday, she’s just melts me away.
Hey Larry...Excellent reaction as always. Lucy is a spectacular superstar here. This is her best and it is supreme! Wow!
But apparently Taylor Swift is ranked higher in the charts despite sounding flatter then a burst tyre without auto-tune says it all about today's music doesn't it?...😂
Which all time chart is that ? I would like to take a look .
@@tomwhite4736I think something has got lost in translation here. There is no such thing as an all time chart to my knowledge. I think he is saying as most people are, is that Lucy’s voice should be considered as one of the all time best. A subjective opinion at best.
Another great reaction to Lucy!!! You obviously love her as much as I do, along with MANY others. Thanks.

No words needed. This young Lady knocks me out. Thank you. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.

People going on about auto tune again, so many want to bring down what is a perfect voice giving a perfect performance.
So many Lucy fans have Angelina jordan living in their head . It's hilarious .

Hi watching you react to Lucy is like my wife watching me react to her but I don’t goosebumps I get tears. I agree with you the best ever
Well said there is no way Chris Broom would let anyone tamper with Lucy´s voice.
Autotune hasn´t been used for a long time because of the problems Lucy certainly doesn´t use it. There is no way Chris Broom would allow it.

@@michaelhingley4770 Lucy said she doesn't use I a believe her.
They are doing it for money as people watch that get views and views are money. I read up on this and it appears although Autotune came out in 1970 (It is no longer used as it was easy to detect and had a habit of distorting the voice) They have been manipulating recorded sound as far back as 1940.
@@colinhea That settles it.
Lucy is the same live.

She actually sounds even better live because we get to hear more of her natural vibrato.
This really is beautiful. I love how excited you get listening to her. She astounds me how good she is.
I have to agree.
Love it....bless you on this Fathers Day weekend.❤❤😂

Thanks so much!!!
Come on! She’s stunning and beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤pass the word!!!
I don't think Lucy would allow auto tuning.
Exactly. She doesn’t strike me as someone who’d allow her voice to be altered. Her natural talent and raw power are quite well established and obvious. Lucy is truly gifted and a joy to listen to.
@@yaronsteinbuch3956 Lucy said she does not use it and I believe her.
@@yaronsteinbuch3956
How much input and creative control does she have during the post-production process though?
Excellent points and very well stated. I hope Larry can accept these comments with the good faith that they were made.
Sometimes Chris gets carried away but He loves Lucy so I can always forgive him (well most of time)
Larry, just when you think Lucy cannot get any better, she drops another video!
Amazing performance by the greatest singer of all time
I’ll find out for sure, but what about her live performances, she belts them out like her studio recordings. Larry, everytime I hear someone say “oh they must be using something to clean it up” they are just jealous because they or someone they know can’t do what Lucy does. You say it all the time ; pure perfection!!!!
Hi Chris
I have been waiting for you to react to this one from Lucy. I have enjoyed your journey reacting to Lucy and acknowledge that you have reached the same conclusion as many of us in the knowledge that Lucy is the best of the best!
she was great live
Oh, I bet!
She is so fantastic the best❤
--Jon
Thanks Jon!
She is an amazing vocalist
Larry, you need to go to LucyThomasmusic and check out some of the rock songs she does like Desperado by the Eagles and I don’t want to miss a thing by Aerosmith. She covers so many different genres.

Thanks so much!
Good point!
Just to be sure I understand, you are saying that Anne Hathaway’s acting performance singing I Dreamed a Dream as Fantine, for which which she won an Academy Award, was better than Lucy Thomas’ acting while singing the song. Is that it?
I see you trying to compare Lucy to Angelina, and it can never happen. Lucy Thomas is a perfectionist and Angelina is just a singer
Just a singer recognised by experts in the music business as a exceptional talent . Producers , songwriters , grammy winners and numerous top artists. dont like a singers style , then there are more respectful way to express it .At aged 78 you should now that .
Hi Larry what’s up?

Wing of pegasus also reviewed " have yourself a very merry Christmas " I think that's fairly recent ?
@@tomwhite4736 Right, more recent - maybe for Christmas 2022? I think it was Larry's first reaction to Lucy.

AJ is ok but don't feel like she brings as much originality or emotion as Lucy, no other voice compares with Lucy's whereas AJ feels too much like some sort of Amy Winehouse tribute who I never particularly liked anyway although I appreciate she had a unique and original tone.

Larry in one of your early reactions you said you could not wait to show Lucy to your wife - we never heard her reaction to Lucy - What was her reaction??
My wife is a diehard Whitney and Celine fan. Kind of biased but she does love Lucy's voice. I just don't think her mind is really opened to giving up the throne to an up and coming vocalist lol

Her style on this is EXACTLY the same as the Rightous Brothers version on the Andy Williams Show (video is on UA-cam)
alive amazing

Why haven’t you?
You have not reviewed Emma‘s latest song “Dancing on the Stars” with Andre and Lucy‘s “One Moment in Time.”
Both released this month .

And have you seen the 2 Fil episodes on Tori?
