Lucy Thomas now owns this song. It is hers because she sings it perfectly and brings an original version, the Lucy Thomas version. In saying that, I am not denigrating those who have come before, Leonard Cohen, K D Lang, Jeff Buckley etc. they were and are great versions of this iconic song but Lucy is the new kid on the block and now is the time for her to shine like the bright shining star she was always meant to be. Lucy was born to perform and perform she will, all around this big beautiful musical world. Next stop for Starship Lucy Thomas is Tokyo on 8th September.
I always said I'd never ever hear a better version then that of Jeff Buckley's but then along came Lucy and she totally blew my mind.

Was there to witness history for Lucy. She blew us all away with every single vocal from first note to the last note. All I could say during and after every song was "WOW". I am surprised she didn't hear me from the middle of the theater. She sounded fantastic. She lived every single word...heart was in every vocal. She is even better live. Love her ❤️.
You were very luck to be there. This is the turning point for Lucy as the mainstream wakes up to a genuine talent without the distracting half naked dances in the background. Did she include "Evergreen" her list of 17songs?

I got so excited watching your reaction of Lucy today because I think you are amazed at Lucys performance as the rest of us. I am a 79-year-old from Philadelphia and the son of an Irish tenor night club singer. Juliet you are my favourite reviewer. With Lucy there is a wonderful synergy between her gifted voice and her stunning beauty which is hypnotic but I think there is even more. Her mother said she was a loving and caring person. I saw a video of her busking raising money for the local Bishops charity. All this makes for a transcendent experience which has brought me to tears many times. Thanks Lucy and her lovely sister Martha too!!!!!

I absolutely adore Lucy's rich lower registers equally as much as her gorgeous soprano range and she's just very adorable in general as is her sweet younger sister Martha. They're like real life earth angels 😇🥹
From what I've heard with the 3 songs released so far from this concert Lucy is going to be a sensation in the musical "Rosie." I really do see her becoming an international star, she is the complete package.

As a fellow Lucy Thomas supporter, thank you for your enthusiastic and heartfelt reaction! I’ve attended many concerts in my 74 years, even performed at a few, but this was definitely the most enjoyable. As you will see this was not a one-off, stand-out performance Lucy kept this standard up for 17 songs (‘songs’ is such an inadequate word for what Lucy does) including four we haven’t seen on studio video ( “ One and only”, On my own”, “ I dreamed a dream”and “ Don’t cry for me Argentina).
During the concert Lucy dedicated “ A thousand years” to Martha, just before Martha joined her on stage for two duets (“ Wonderful World” and “ The prayer”, sang “ Desperado” for her grandparents, all four of whom were in the audience, ( it’s her Grandads favourite) and “ Gentle breeze” to Chris Broom her producer and writer of “Rosie”who was also there, she also did two brief Q&A sessions, then a 1 1/2 hour ‘meet and greet’ then came back to a local hotel bar until around 1:30 a.m. to socialise with friends, family, fan club members and concert attendees, what a superstar she is!

This is probably the best reaction I've listened to... I completely agree that I was secretly flipping the bird to all the jealous naysayers who tried to diminish the incredible gift that she is as a person and has as a voice... She is her own divine frequency that resonates from soul to soul.. Also, its very important to me that I point out the way in which she follows her own authentic self.. covering beautiful and deeply touching songs that most woman her age, would not even be interested in singing.. It just shows who she truly is and proves the beautiful soul she embodies.. ♥ 🙏

Thank you Juliette for a fantastic sublime reaction and analysis that I could understand not knowing any tecnichal stuff about music. I was there at the concert and Halleluja was so fantastic to witness. It was a great encore at the Stoller Hall in Manchester. Lucy sang this song as number 17 with so much power and elegance, that she certainly put herself amoungs the top vocalists performing live. Lucy is good and even better live.

Juliet, I love reading the comments here! The one that Lucy's singing resonates soul to the soul of the listener is good. And I believe accurate. I feel that too. Also the comment from an attendee at the concert describing the experience of watching Lucy sing 17 songs followed by a 1 one and a half hour meet and greet and then Lucy spending time at a local pub with fans and friends until 1:30 AM. Now that is dedication! And another example of part of what makes her the greatest at what she loves to do.

She was on The Voice kids in 2018. Two of the three judges turned at the blind audition stage. It was there she met Will Callan - also a contestant that season. The same two judges turned for Will. Both were eliminated at the Semi-Final stage.

Juliet what a wonderful and enthusiastic reaction 😀. Another reactor to an earlier song of Lucy’s pointed out how well she used the positioning of the microphone when singing loudly and softly. That shows up really well in this song when she is holding the mic in the last verse. Notice how she moves it in the same way for the same words each time she sings them.
Juliet, you're enthusiasm really shows and I'm sure Lucy appreciates your feelings. In one of your Lucy reactions you mentioned questions about being rehearsed and interpreting. The "Lucyisms" that you mention (at lease IMHO) appear to be spontaneous, coming along with her interpretation.I have commented in several of my comments that Lucy throws herself in to her singing and videos. That seems to support interpreting while singing. I also support you in saying "this girl can sing!!", despite critics. Very early on a reactor said some "sing" and others "perform"; Lucy PERFORMS". I'm listening as I type and just witnessed her breath control which allows her to blow right past where some would stop for a breath. The one that stands out to me is her run from head voice all the way down to chest voice, rounds the corner and continues the run back up before taking a breath. WOW!
Sorry if this is long but this was the second video of hers that I watched (right after Memory) and I've loved her right from the start. Lucy brings chills and usually tears on most of her renditions. I have to be careful listening to her CD while driving because I've had to pull over and stop to let my vision return to be able to see. That's how deeply her voice can affect me. I'm hoping they release a DVD of this concert.
Juliet, from the first tentative couple of lines of "Somewhere"as her confidence grew Lucy got better and better as the concert progressed, culminating in the mind blowing version of "Hallelujah", that you have just critiqued, anyone out there that thought that she could not match her studio performances in a live setting must now surely see that as you rightly point out in your comment,"the girl can sing!!", and she achieved that after an energy sapping sixteen previous performances, she is utterly amazing.!!! I listened to the two versions back to back: the studio version and the live version.
The two are amazing but Lucy voice improved in these few years. Now the voice is even warmer, profund, captivating. Her voice hit your soul like a hammer of emotions.

I was so disappointed to miss the concert. It was understood there would be another in London but it now seems that Manchester was the only one. I never doubted Lucy's live performances would be jaw - droppingly good and it's so hard having to wait for each video release. I wish they would keep more of the audience reaction and Lucy's song introductions. Hopefully the next release will be one of the sister duets. Thanks as always for your technical comments; I find them fascinating.
She's supposed to be doing a preview concert for the Rosie musical in London around November time where she'll be performing the songs from the musical.
Yes I know, but that's not the same as hearing her perform some of her iconic songs or sing with Martha. I'll be in London for the Rosie preview for sure.

Juliet.... your enthusiasim is off the charts, yes this was Lucys 17th song of the evening and she crushed it, she owns that song, the starting off in her lower register was a killer as she was not screaming the notes, I first detected a slight tiredness to start but that quickly went away, and if nothing else she proved she was singing the song not lip syncing Beautifully done and lets not forget she is 4 years older, more mature than when she sang the first version, the first song I ever heard Lucy sing and she hooked me. definately do the other two songs she has released as a video her opening , SOMEWHERE and closing, WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD, just STUNNING,, and thanks for the STUNNING and educational react, you are the BEST !!!! Thanks again !!!! and Martha joined her on stage after a singing tribute to her of a THOUSAND YEARS and they dueted WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD, and THE PRAYER. Yes! Listening to Lucy is like eating chocolate, as she is addicting. And she is only 20!! By the time she makes it to the US with her concerts, she will be even more brilliant. One of the things with Lucy is she brings people to her that wouldn't necessarily be a great fan of this type of music like myself!,I think she is incredible in every way!,this recent concert shows what a performer she is!,I love the end of the song where she brings her hand to her heart!💖

I could listen to Lucy every day, as her voice is just pure angelic perfection! I've got 10 of her songs on my Apple playlist... I mentioned this to you before, that I discovered Lucy when I randomly came across her video singing Run, and I was hooked. Would love it if you did a reaction to that one, as she was only 15 when she recorded it, and she was phenomenal.
A wonderful reaction from a knowledgeable person who has become a true fan of Lucy. Your explanations about the notes Lucy hits and the difficulty they cause most singers is a great help to those who have no background in music, as are your explanations of the way Lucy adapts and overcomes those difficulties. The richness of Lucy’s voice is quite astounding and I absolutely loved the moment when she took the microphone from the stand and became more mobile in her movements. On these Lives concert at the Stoller Hall, she chooses to changes to lower tone of voices still perfect stunning performances of Lucy. As usual she does excellent singing that in my opinion this the best version of "Hallelujah" I ever heard of course there's the studio recording this when younger age of 16yrs and now 20th yrs. the vocals of voices is much maturity rounded depth sounds just incredibles of her, Thank you so much for the reacts and Online Singing Coach always appreciat your wonderful comments.

WOW! Lucy is plain and simply phenomenal. Nothing else compares to Lucy's pristine voice and natural beauty. Lucy is so amazing. Lucy deserves the marvellous standing ovation honouring her from the 500 lucky fans who were there to experience Lucy's incredible live performance. WOW!!! I have never been so excited about any entertainer as I am for Lucy! She is something else. So much talent, emotion, passion, beauty and charisma...all in one beautiful package. I am also tired of certain commentors that are continuously going on about Lucy being voice corrected. Here she performed live and many who were there in person said she was even better live then in the studio recordings. What more evidence do we need? Lucy is world class and probably the best of the upcoming new generation of vocalists.
There's no probably about it she's miles ahead of the competition, the next best 2 are Amira Willighagen and Connie Talbot but even they are some way behind Lucy.
As for the studio recordings there isn't a singer in the world today who doesn't get pitch corrected during the production process it has sadly become the industry standard thing to do but that'll never be able to discredit true talent anymore then it can polish the turds, it is obvious when you're listening to a great singer or a mediocre one irrespective of pitch correction or not, always always always judge artists on the quality of their live performances and here Lucy absolutely excels.
Juliet, surely it’s time for a Lucy Thomas week+? There are three more videos from Stoller Hall released already (with another 13 more to come!) plus “ Starlight” which you were going to react to ‘next’ almost a year ago plus some of my favorites such as “Always remember us this way”, “ All by myself”, “ Listen” and “ She used to be mine”(both at age 14!),“ Beautiful Ghosts”, “Footprints in the sand”, “ One day” ( Lucy’s first for Chris Broom when she was just 13!), and, of course, wonderful duets with Martha including “ You raise me up” ( the only song ever where I had something in my eye during the bridge!), “ When you believe”, “Say something” ( Martha’s first at age 10!) and many, many more!

It's been a minute since she uploaded the video and since you uploaded yours, but I've watched both quite a few times now. Last night I finally decided to say something, beginning with that Dishonest Composer schmuck, for both, his campaign against Lucy and his 'reaction' to your pitch correction video.

And you're kind of like Lucy in a certain respect... every new video you post becomes my new favorite, and now that's this one. What an incredible, stunning performance Lucy gave the crowd after already having sung a full concert for them, and having absorbed all that energy and adoration and then taken a breather. Your description of her state of being in that moment just felt so spot on. And then she sang. Just incredible.

When I first heard Lucy, I thought “ Heaven must be missing an Angel” (Tarvares). Later, I figured that “Heaven must have sent you” (Bonnie Pointer). Finally, just sat back and declared “ Hallelujah”. Was that ( Handel or Cohen?) no matter, she has brought us noetic balance, Emotional composure and Spiritual peace…. Now, who might have loved us enough to share such wonderful gifts in such a Divine package ? Yes, I think so too!!

This was your greatest Lucy reaction yet. I loved it and have watched it 8 times already. Thank you so much for that. I would love to see you react to some of Lucy's more pop sounding music. Lucy can sing anything and any genre. "Foot Prints in the Sand" or maybe "the Climb" (duet with Martha) would be a good place to start. Or maybe some Aerosmith with "I don't Want To Miss A Thing". She has many others. These aren't necessarily classical or musical type songs but a little more on the pop side. I would love to help expose more of this side of Lucy. As you say, "This Girl Can Saaang". But she can sing pop just as well as she can "Saaaang" classical. Ok...I think I'm beating a dead horse. Thank you so much for your consideration. Juliet, you are on fire this morning. How much coffee have you had? I totally agree with you though. This brought her full-circle. I think I also saw Hallelujah (or Memory) as my introduction to Lucy. I have been her fan since the first few notes. I have also felt that she was pitch-perfect all along. Sorry to say but I think her vibrato suffered just a tad bit. It seemed a little more rapid and not quite the deep undulation she normally gets, and didn't trail off as smoothly as in the studio version (but I'm not a pro trained person except that I've been in music since 1950 and still have my good musical ear (not tooting my own horn)). In your comment about the studio version you made a point about the low 'F' being hard (even for you). But, she killed it. Even at the end of this concert (I bet she was tiring) she still had that beautiful breath control in the belting part. She came down that run from the ceiling to the basement then back up all in one breath. The same just a short bit later. Once again, Lucy soars. 😂

Yep, Juliet . . . you were really wound up. Had you been in the audience they might have put a spotlight on you to see where all those hoots and hollers were coming from. Lucy's breath control showed once again where after the key change she did that run from head down to chest and then back to upper note all in one breath. BTW, no complaint meant, I value your comments and it pleases me to see you jumpin' around about Lucy.

Lucy's performance was absolutely STUNNING!
You are right. Lucy's low range has become more beautiful, fuller and richer as she has matured.
And Lucy's high range belting still makes me tremble with emotion.
The one thing I miss though, from Lucy's earlier studio video, is her stepping in time to the music.
