  • This is the twenty-second podcast in a series of podcasts about Colonial American history. It this podcast I focus on the differences between the Spanish and English colonies: how they were settled, governed and the cultures of Spain and England that produced the differences--differences that are still influencing the Western hemisphere to this day.

This was great. Maybe you can do a podcast about the first English colony of Roanoke? Very interesting history

I touched on the Roanoke settlement in my podcast about Virginia but I think it is important enough that it deserves a separate in-depth treatment as you suggest.

I think the English was a great part of man history I admire them for standing up against the Catholic oppressors and the world and turn the world upside down 😉

The Eliot Bible has a unique history. It was the first published bible in America and John Eliot translated into Algonquin to help teach these tribes Christianity

These podcasts are accurate and based in real history. I tell the whole story--the good and the bad. At the end of each podcast I list all of the primary and scholarly secondary sources used as reference for that podcast. If you desire a podcast more supportive of your political and social activism you'll have to go elsewhere.

@@ronmiddlebrook8431 Spain never saw America as a colony,it was divided in viceroyalty like the Italian territories, it is true it was a system of casta but it was much complicated for example the indigenous royalty allied with the Europeans kept their titles and privileges, ( it was a Moctezuma Florida Blanca the founder of the Spanish federal police) and religion was more important than race, the Burgos laws of 1512 abolished the indigenous slavery ( not followed as it should most likely) were the first code of laws designated to protect the indigenous, black slavery was a little different they could buy the freedom after three years ( they were pay a little salary) and families could not be separated, many English a slaves escape to Spanish Florida to be free , there are legal documents in which the slaves sue the plantation owners over cases of cruelty and win ( I read about it in Colombia I don’t know if there is any true on that) about the gold and silver yes the crown had 1\5 of the metals produced, and pretty sure it was a lot of contraband, but is not less true all the infrastructure created, from universities to hospitals, aqueducts cathedrals etc etc the economy was base in trade and agriculture besides mining, from China to Europe ships full of goods.
