    I like Dorothy being so regretful about killing Nessa even though it was in no way her fault, since in the book she goes to Elphaba's castle NOT to carry out The Wizards assassination mission but because the Wizard mentioned Nessa and Elphaba were sisters and Dorothy DESPERATELY wanted to apologise.
    (Elphaba then hit her breaking point, set her broom on fire and started swinging it around like a mad woman, accidentally seting herself on fire as well. Dorothy promptly tried to save her life with a nearby bucket of water and... Well now she's regretful and probably also traumatised!)

      It's about relativity. The scarecrow's own existance will be perfectly sane to him, and Dorothy doesn't know what is and isn't seen as possible or normal in Oz. Flying monkeys are an established fact of the world, but cars - vehicles that move with neither horse or magic - could seem absurd. Or they could be just as mundane as they are here.

      @@TitanQueenIt's the original L. Frank Baum books, mostly, though the sequels to the Wicked novel touch on it briefly. In the second Oz book, we're introduced to Ozma, the intended queen of Oz who was usurped by the Wizard and stolen away (and magically transformed into a boy and had her memories erased... it's a long story...). Dorothy comes back to Oz in the third book, and eventually relocates there permanently, becoming Ozma's closest friend and confidante in the process.
      Elements of that story were adapted in the 1980s movie Return to Oz. It's very good, but the details differ significantly from both the Baum books and the Wicked quadrilogy of novels (not to mention the Wicked musical, which also contradicts the novels on which it was based quite heavily).

Scarecrow ousted the wizard and became the new king of the emerald city, convenes with the witch of the south, the ACTUAL Glinda, and since he's no parable of Dorothy's close friend that makes him either seriously unconfident in himself or a master planner from the start.

      Guys I’m so sorry to spoil the fun but both Alice in Wonderland and The Chronicles of Narnia are British. -Also Finding Nemo isn’t an isekai, just a journey. Like the surface world isn’t another world, it’s just kind of far away.-
      There are some actual American isekai besides The Wizard of Oz though, Alan Parrish was isekaied to Jumanji and then isekaied back to a functionally different Earth. Spencer Gillpin, Martha Kaply, Anthony “Fridge” Johnson, Bethany Walker, and Alex Vreeke from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle are isekaied into the game. In the sequel, Jumanji: Next Level, Eddie Gillpin and Milo Walker are also transported to the game. Depending on your interpretation of The Stanley Parable (which was made by one American and one Brit, making it half-American) Stanley was isekaied. There’s Princess Giselle from Enchanted, she was isekaied to Earth from Andalasia. Coraline the novel was British, but the stop-motion movie is American, and it changes so much I think it counts as its own story. In The Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer, Alex and Connor Bailey are isekaied into a fairytale world. Those are all the ones I can think of, if anyone has more I’d love to hear :)

    The one thing here that really annoys me is that if this is Wicked, then Dorothy should be wearing Silver shoes, rather than Ruby Slippers.
    EDIT: Since y'all keep talking about it, I figure I should add this. I have seen the stage version. The production I saw was vague about whether or not the slippers ever actually turned red (plus my memory sucks and I just remember them starting off silver). I have gotten many replies already telling me about Elphaba's spell changing them in Act 2.

      @DragonFaerie 4 дні тому +15

      Do you not know the concept of multiple continuities, alternate universes, or just merely the fact that a story can be more complex than it is at first glance?
      Dorothy is the hero of the original Oz tale, and she's still an innocent kid in this as she is in that. She's just unfortunately being manipulated by adults with political agendas, something you can and do see happen in real life. Even in the movie Glinda was a tad catty, what with asking Dorothy what type of witch she was and then saying only bad witches were ugly. And the Wizard was always a fraud, he didn't have any real magic in the first place. And with that in place, Wicked tried to ask the question "okay, why was the Witch considered wicked prior to Dorothy coming to Oz" because she clearly had the reputation before Dorothy.
      And yes, not every villian needs to be sympathetic, but asking "what possibly could have made someone like this" is not an inherently bad question
