I've been trying to find this information. Thought that there was maybe some battery and an inductive charger and a radio transceiver. Doesn't quite explain how data is transmitted. Is there a chip in the pen that regulates a pulse to provide pressure feedback and button state? Is it analog or digital? 3d Diagrams with cut outs?
So that style pen does not work on anything else other than a Samsung device?? Is there any other style pens with a tip as fine as this but would be compatible with say, my Nexus phone?
Why does the s-pen that came with my samsung note 1 not work with the galaxy s3? I realise that my models are ancient, but still. I'm curious. Also, would it be alright if I bought a stylus for my galaxy tab t311? Would I be able to use the swype keypad well with the stylus?
he already explains it, the hardware to power up the s pen is inside a note only, so it will not work with an s4 because there is no electromagnetic field being generated
Great job! Very informative!! I have a pen from a laptop back in the 90s when touch screen tablets and styluses were cool, and it still works great with my note 10.1!
my feedback ::: the video is really great, because now I can understand why it doesn't work on other phones, that don't have spen with it, it's a special pen that works only with specific phones that have that magnetic field, what a great piece of info to know, by the way, you should say that it uses wacom technology!... My Regards
I forgot to ask if you use the S.pen alot does it eventually break or wear down till its unusable because I will never need it cause I don't use my S.pen but seams like in box there was a little bag with tweezer looking tool and it also had 5 little tips that I guess are for replacement? Guess I'm just wondering if it wears out or breaks over time.
Hi there! I really love your channel. You are the only "android only" tech channel i follow. I loved this video because it's one thing, short neat and clear unlike your on air episodes! I think you should stop those more than one hour long videos and get in to the short and one thing only videos. For example the video on which you compare ios 6.1 to android 4.2 is way too long! It could be shorter, much shorter so it could be less boring or let's say more fun. This one is perfect and watchable!
Definitely love the video. But would definitely like to know how exactly does the circuitry of the s pen look like. Would be looking forward to videos like this one
Loved this video. More technical videos like this would be great. As others have said a little more detail would be nice, but I understand that might take a lot more work and time. So I understand if you do not.
Hey Chris, It would acctually be nice to have more of these videos. It is very interesting. Perhaps you could talk about new technologies that will actualy be used in smartphones in the future. Thanks.
Yes we like videos like this and want more but at the moment I don't know what exactly I want to see... when is the next update going to be available for the galaxy note 2 for Sprint?
I like it, actually, there is layer before the screen that generate that magnetic field and recieve the signal from the spen. I would like to know more about screen technologies, and eMMC sudden death, brick bug of samsung devices. Thanks
I bought Samsung Note 10.1 2 weeks ago, I found a lot of S Pen function than this.. @ 1:15 u can see S Pen has a button, if you press it @ Popup Note it can change from pen to eraser or from eraser to pen without clicking @ the icon pen/erase.. n @ S Note when u can press the button, S Pen can automatic change from eraser become pen.. and many more~ :)
Nice video. Here's a tip. Hire an animator or graphic artist to do some animated plain vector graphic in motion, projecting the explanation you are telling your audience.. just like when you were in in elementary school and your teachers show you these how to videos with cool animated vector graphic moving around. It is very simple to do and you will definitely get the point across a lot easier, even if you get really technical with your description or explanations. People are often very visual in sense this is why if you get too elaborate in (words), you will confuse a lot of people when you get too technical. Hope that helps.
Hi i have a note 2 and im having a problem with my s pen coz it doesnt work on my note2 but the s pen work on others note2... what should i do? thanks and more power...
How does the the "book cover" case for like the s3 or tab 3 or note 8.0 turn on and off the screen when you open or close the screen cover? and why do knock off case that look the same not do anything to the screen? Sorry badly worded.
Compare writing with an S Pen on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet with writing on paper with a pen or pencil(e.g. for a student, can the former practically replace the latter)?
Hi Kris, a week ago I encountered a problem with my s-pen in my GN2 device. When i draw straight lines, it appears crooked; the pen won't write at the far side of the screen; and it sometimes write and sometimes won't. What could be the problem? I tried googling but couldn't find any solution. Maybe you can help?
Cañete Herbie I had the same problem in the past, I assume you may be using a case that has a magnet in it? Since it generates an electromagnetic field, it is affected by magnets close to you. If yes, try without the case!
i really liked the vid. and i would love it if you explained how the capacitive screen works. i personally know that its working by electrically discharging capacitors. but there are many people who think for some reason, that it detects heat! i would love to ave a vid to refrence every time someone asks me about it
Thanks, we'll definitely keep that in mind. We weren't sure how far in depth might be too much for this one.
As an engineering undergraduate, this sort of videos interest me a lot.
Hope to see more of this sort of more technical videos!
Thanks for answering my question on the 1st search. I was mildly upset that it didn't work with my s20, but it did with my s6 lite lol
Todays break down the most wondering thing that goes to mind everyday cause am a huge note fan , keep it up for sure
i always wanted to know how that worked!!! i even looked for an answer but no joy so cheers for that!!!
I love this new "Break It Down" stuff. I ca't wait to see more!

exactly what I was looking for. Great
A little more detail would of been nice and perhaps a comparison between note 1 and 2 s pen . Nice video
Finally I get some idea on how this magnificent techonology works. Loved it keep it coming. Thanks!
cool ...
it was kinda obvious that it used the electro magnetic induction ...
but the way u guys put it was simply suuperb..
gud job android authority
Great job! Very informative!! I have a pen from a laptop back in the 90s when touch screen tablets and styluses were cool, and it still works great with my note 10.1!
I vote YES for you making info videos like this.

Yes more videos like this would be great!

We definitely want this type of videos
U are doing a nice job. Hopefully u get what u want to.
I want u to do a video on how to use the s-pen .... all how I can use it
Loved this video. More technical videos like this would be great. As others have said a little more detail would be nice, but I understand that might take a lot more work and time. So I understand if you do not.
Really nice. Good length too
Hey Chris, It would acctually be nice to have more of these videos. It is very interesting. Perhaps you could talk about new technologies that will actualy be used in smartphones in the future. Thanks.
All I could think about when he was doing the face cam was "wow the green wall IS real" lol #OpTicNation
This was great. I've had my note 2 for a couple weeks now and wondered how that little devil worked!
More technical information on how it works!! Maybe some kind of demo with another product that has the same principal
I benefited from this video in 2020 💖👍🏻
I love android authority.
Great video. Simply explained. Helped me. Great you thank everybody.
Definitely! We want more!
I'd like to see more as well!
Hi will the s pen work on the new galaxy tab 8.4" tablet?
Thank you,
Yes we like videos like this and want more but at the moment I don't know what exactly I want to see... when is the next update going to be available for the galaxy note 2 for Sprint?

Very nice. Just a little deeper explanation though
I like it, actually, there is layer before the screen that generate that magnetic field and recieve the signal from the spen.
I would like to know more about screen technologies, and eMMC sudden death, brick bug of samsung devices.
Thanks
Good video can u break down how wireless charge in works thank u
I loved it. If only u could break down some other new techs like NFC or wireless charging.... thx for your great channel...
I think you should keep making videos like this one.
Good work. Definitely wanna see more
Wonderful to learn more about the technologies that make our favourite gadgets work. More please!
I really love it .. please do more !! Please !!
Thanks for the explanation of how the S-Pen works. It's had me baffled for a while! I'd really like more videos like this. Keep it up!
Thanks man...I won my project
Oh yes! Amazing! Own a note 2, would like to know how much of an impact is safe for the device.
Wanna see more of this curious stuff ... especially how does nfc work ... its data rate and stuff
I all ways wondered how that worked. I liked that video a lot I would love to see. More of these videos
thanks for the video... you gave a better understanding of how the s-pen works
Can you do a video like this for Exynos 5, Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 800. And compare all of them . THANKS :)
will a case with a magnet affect the s pen or the phone ( galaxy note 2)? cuz i noticed the pen is not working properly

Good video mainly love the voice quality
I tested it triggering the camera from 5 meters away...I wonder if it holds a charge briefly or is still receiving power at that distance
More detailed videos... Also how do processors like tegra 3 and exynos work.
Can i use it for other phone also
This helped me know what was the problem with my s pen not drawing!
NFC breakdown would be awesome
yes totally approved! more "break down" vids plz :)

Thanks don't know why I didn't ask earlier!
electromenetic resonance, its wacom's technology. which are also used in professional graphic tablets like the intuos and cintiq line
make more of these vids, they're pretty cool
Like it! More how to videos please.
Its more the amazing video. Thanks guys
Compare writing with an S Pen on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet with writing on paper with a pen or pencil(e.g. for a student, can the former practically replace the latter)?
Does it only work exclusively for note devices??? Can it work for other samsung units except notes?
Informative. Thanks! I hate it when people call the SPen a simple stylus, cuz it's not.
Can we use it to other phones? Are there any ways?
Nice video! I agree on the suggestion about a display breakdown. (i.e.: different types / technologies, etc.)
i love this video, thanks for unlocking the mystery of s-pen.
Was looking for a video like this and how it works finally i get mt answer liked the video still wish you broke the pen lol

Nice video, keep making videos like this and you will get lots of views. Well done.
nice job ...i'd love more technical information But it's OK ..i never saw something like that
A very nice explanation after a long search of topic. Thanks uploader.
Awesome video, I've always wondered how my spen works! Now I know, thanks ;-)
I tought its a normal plastic pen.
So innovative!!!
Good video. Make the videos longer and more technical.
Sweet, loved it.
Neat video. ' Don't always have the time to dig into the technology of everyday items; that or some interests are sacrificed for others.
In the Note 3, when you press the pen nib and do the same thing, just this time above the capacitive buttons, they will register.
This "Break it Down" thing. I like it. More.
This was pretty cool. You should definitely make more
Watching this video in 2019
thanks for the tutorial..i really appreciate it
YES!!
DO MORE PLS!!
