  • When Barnabas and Julia are transported from Parallel Time 1970 they end up in a time warp and are not sure where what time period it is. They see the grave of David Collins who died in 1970 but also see a fresh grave with a death date of 1995.

Great to see the talented Clarice Blackburn again if only as a guest star . And Nancy Barrett turns in another wonderful performance. She never disappoints.

Nancy Barrett always considered herself to be a character actress and this is a great example of Nancy in action. You would appreciate this, Jon. In the segment where Carolyn is meeting with Stokes, count the number of grapes that Nancy eats during the scene.

Oh thank you for posting!!!! Saw it all first-run! Some of it aired on my tenth birthday in the summer of 1970!!! My (then) girlfriend and I did the math about how old we would be in 1995 and how long it would be! (25 years!) We weren't still together then! This sequence was a high point for the show!

But Julia ( oh Julia !) is allways there.

    1995 was deliciously gothic.
I was totally confused by this as a child, but I LOVE it now. I just wish it had lasted longer. Instead we got the interminable David and Hallie show ...

At this point of continuity with reality, Akira Ifukube had just finished composing his final Godzilla film score before retiring, Frank Sinatra was retired from music and acting, game show eMCee (and Sinatra’s birthday twin) Bob Barker was 23 years (out of 35 years) into hosting The Price Is Right, Jonathan Frid was semi-retired in his hometown of Toronto, John Williams received his 34th Oscar nomination for Best Original Score/Song, and I was a year away from being born. In Dark Shadows continuity, Barnabas Collins was 225 years old
2:26 Barnabas and Julia would have had to tell Mrs Johnson of the existence of 1970 Parallel Time, as well as their experience in it
    10:33-14:20 Barnabas & Julia vs Carolyn 1995
Of all the characters Nancy Barrett played on Dark Shadows, Carolyn Stoddard (contemporary, 1970 Parallel Time [as Willie Loomis’ wife], House of Dark Shadows [as a vampire], or 1995 [as a half-insane aged madwoman]) is my favorite

Thank you for a lot of good information here. I would have to agree about Nancy Barrett's characterization here. She would seem to be remembering something about the past and lose her sense of reality again. It was great to watch.

Both Barnabas & Dr. Julia encountered Mrs. Johnson and asked for information about what happened to the rest of the Collins family members. She was vague about it. Then they went to Carolyn's cottage & asked her the same questions & she refused to answer their questions.

Boy, what an echo! The beginning of this episode sure echoes a lot. Must have been filmed inside a very large room. When Julia said that it was deserted, (9:23) I asked myself, "If it's deserted, then who lit the candle?" I see Carolyn is as crazy as a box of frogs, so no change there. In 1995 I had just finished University, and had a job teaching English as a Second Language. Nice year. At least for me. For Collinwood, not so nice a year. I'm going to enjoy watching these videos! TFS! ~Janet in Canada

YES. I came here to say just that. It plays quite a bit during the 1995 storyline. So spooky, yet so enchanting.

I think I would rather live in the shack at Findley’s Cove than in the old House; at least, that shack on the beach had electricity, heat, running water, and, perhaps most important, an indoor “water closet,” something Barnabas and Willie never had in that drafty Old House much to their great regret, no doubt.

I still love it though, warts and all.
Name one storyline on the show that doesn't have any continuity problems.
When Barnabas first came on the show, his events of his relationship with Jeremiah and Josette were nothing like what was shown during the 1795 period.
      Just saying.

Everyone in 1995 is amazed that Barnabas &Julia still look the same from 1970. While they search for answers to what happened to Elizabeth, David &Roger everyone is too scared to tell them what happened 25 years ago, most of all Carolyn. Gerard's ghost seems to put fear into everyone except Barnabas & Julia.

  • @njpubadjuster3710

Of course, we know Mrs. Johnson was lying. Elizabeth and Roger weren't in Rome; she died in 1970 and Quentin spent 25 years in Wyndcliffe.

Unfortunately, the late summer 1970 episodes contain endless scenes of David and Hallie. Only Carolyn's unhinged behavior towards the end of these pre- 1840 episodes makes it okay. She has a great scene with Willie about a riddle she constructs.

Yes, during these last contemporary episodes at Collinwood in the summer of 1970, that’s pretty much all we see, all the action at the great house on the hill.
I wish we had seen more of Collinsport itself, like the Blue Whale Tavern, the sheriff’s office at the police station, etc.
Also, NOT having Louis Edmonds in these episodes was a great loss, In my opinion. I understand that the reason they schlepped Roger over to London on a seemingly never ending business trip, was because Louis Edmonds needed time off to appear in some play.
Even a trip to the Collins Cannery or to Collinsport Hospital would have been far more interesting than seeing the two 14-year-olds, David and Hallie, hanging out in that silly playroom of Tad Collins.

I learned something interesting I never mentioned and I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. Watching Dark Shadows the character Quentin as much as said that Voodooism is connected with the god Baal. Baal is mentioned in The Bible something to the effect if Baal is god serve Him but if GOD is god serve HIM something about halting between two opinions. I thought I'd mention that in case there is truth in it. I like to share revelations I receive
