    About me:
Hi, I'm Harry, and I'm intensely passionate about personality typing and self-development - so much so that I have created my own Jung-inspired system, taking a more high-resolution look at the factors making up personality.
Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome.
I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be.

I'll definitely be a part of any study you put out.
You're one of the most trustworthy, knowledgeable, and dedicated channels in this space and it's really cool to see you expand. When I first found your channel I was really surprised at how much further you had taken it than most of the people around you. I hope you can find what you need to reshape our idea of personality and flesh out your system even further. I also love that you keep Jung in mind too, and I hope you continue doing so as you expand! He was a brilliant mind.
Best of luck. I'll be keeping up and watching for the app.

I was extremely delighted hearing about your topic for the thesis. If we can show the associations between the neural pathways and the cognitive functions, then it can even be used to study memetics on a moderately large scale with a considerably good amount of precision.
Anyway, hoping the best for you :)

Excellent! Love the thought of seeing personality typing as a spectrum concept, like life in general. Fluidity of types and typing is king. Humans are so complex, yet so simple at the same time; what a paradox. This study should prove to be very interesting. Great to see you Harry! Happy studying!

Yeah, a personality system I came up with before knowing about MBTI is exactly a color chart (12 rough types which are fluid, lot simpler then this ofc). And then kind of merged MBTI into it later when I saw that they sync pretty well together. But the distinctness of it always seemed wrong so I stuck to a fluid way of looking at it.

9:12 I like that term color chart. It’s almost like how I described seeing/understanding cognitive functions to you when you were typing me. I said: Cognitive functions are like different colors. They are different looking but they can all be found in a rainbow. Order of the colors just change in those rainbows between individuals. But it’s easier to understand/accept any function/individual by just accepting/thinking those as one part of a rainbow and that everyone has their own rainbow. Like it’s easier to see others better as an individual and why they do what/how they do. You just have to see what colors their rainbow is made of.
Also I’d love to participate in the study.

I posit that the exploration of cognitive functions may be accomplished through an alternative approach, not by examining human beings directly, but by investigating artificial intelligence (AI) systems that emulate these functions. To initiate this process, it is essential to define and delineate the terms and frameworks being utilized. Subsequently, the AI system can be designed to mimic the behavior of a human being governed by these cognitive functions, allowing for the observation of its responses in specific scenarios.
By comparing the AI system's behavior to that of a genuine human being, one can gain valuable insights. This can be achieved by collecting data from real-life situations in which human actions, verbal communication, and potentially relevant biometrics are recorded. The same scenarios can then be replicated with multiple AI actors, each representing a different personality type. In order to ascertain the human subject's cognitive function profile, a comparative analysis can be conducted to determine which AI actor most closely resembles the human participant.

So I like the vector and path that you are going on.

There would be a influence difference as well i would assume
If we consider the structure of a type code as implying a stronger influence in some areas and less in others, for instnce a person might prefer to get the overview to understand the minute or the minute to build their overview, same result but a different influence
And the I/E scale can certainly be transcended through ambiversion and there would be subinfluences that are based in the two main influences(Is it internally based or externally based? and what is the relation between the two)
In a way all the scales can be transcended by realizing that rationality whether limbic or cerebral is still a form of rationale
The empiric sensory can be turned into empiric patterns and widened to the limit into abstraction while abstraction can be grounded back all the way to the way of the empirics of the senses(including senses that are hidden like balance or homeostasis)
Everything is holistically connected but that doesn't dissolve the existence of the individual variables

Hey Harry. This isn't related to the video, but i was wondering, would you consider making a fun little series about i.e. colors, and which one (or a couple of colors) you think suits each type? Explaining maybe, the reasoning behind the choice, with the symbolism of colors etc.
For example, here are some of my choices of which color represents which type:
    INFP - Pastel/Colours of Rainbow
    ENFJ - Rosegold
    ENTJ - Gold
    ESTP - Red
    INTJ - Deep Purple
    ISTJ - White
    ISFJ - Beige
    ESFJ - Pink
    ESFP - Green
    ENFP - Yellow
    ISFP - Turquoise
There are more, but i can't remember off the top of my head. 🌺

I also don’t want to put too
Much on your plate but I do have another question that I think might be interesting and even important to explore once we gain a better understanding through these tests assuming all goes well.
I’ve always wondered how other psychological conditions / differences / neurodivergency such as ADHD, Autism, Personality Disorders, Schizophrenia, DID, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD or any number of other psychological factors would influence personality and cognitive functions.
Also the impact of culture would be another one to look into but there’s definitively not enough out there for how it presents in people with neurodivergence.

    • @someoneonyoutube8622
      @someoneonyoutube8622 Рік тому

It also occurred to me just now that figuring out how to emulate cognitive function networks in technology might be a dangerously effective way to create Ai that is sentient or very close to being such.
I wouldn’t recommend that though as there’s a lot that could go wrong and is very morally complicated. I would instead advocate that we stick with simpler Ai that runs only a handful of tasks and isn’t actually capable of sentient thought or emotion.
But its an interesting possibility at the very least.

CPT's definitions of introversion (cautiously...) and extroversion (confidently...) are spot on. This is about the two fundamental libidinal drives-- aversion/security from danger and appetite/satiety of hunger.
And voluntary/compulsory are going to be an important distinction -- from my personal study, there is a temptation to see it as P/J, but they're not. Also, these are similar to proactive/reactive distinction, this is why I don't think that's the right E/I definitions. Voluntary functions are basically the functions that are conscious in real time, they can be any functions. Compulsory functions are the ones running in the background simultaneously in real time. So it's about which function gains supremacy and which one is suppressed back to the subconscious, running independently. And it can be any of the four functions. If S is voluntary, N is compulsory. And this process is dynamic. This is the fundamental structure of consciousness which types build upon.. the most frequently activated voluntary function, that is the dominant function. Whether this can change or not is a subject to further investigation.
The cognitive axes preferences, -- these are the only differentiation that is typological. The rest is fundamental structure or modes.

    • @atomnous
      @atomnous Рік тому +1

it would be difficult to still use coɡnitive function framework.. the main problem is the differentiation of feelinɡ and thinkinɡ, and... it's complicated. Because inherently, in reality, these are how the functions work:
Pe - external perception - sensation
      Pi - internal perception - intuition/feelinɡ
      Je - external judɡment - action/decision-makinɡ
      Ji - internal judɡment - thinkinɡ/conclusion-makinɡ
But there's a problem in the current mbti community, differentiatinɡ between these and the functions themselves... So that Pe could be either Se or Ne. That's just not how external perception works, it's always sensation. Now that sensation could be volitional (conscious) or compulsory (instinctive/reflexive), which I think what many interpret as Se and Ne, but this doesn't work because volition and compulsion are two sides of the same coin. When sensation is compulsory, their imaɡinative intuition is volitional. Now do both Ne dom and Si dom use these activities separately? So Ne user uses his function unconsciously? This doesn't work, a dominant or active function must always be defined as the function that is conscious/volitional. The compulsory function is suppressed, the side effect of volitional function. Then extraversion and introversion must be somethinɡ else, the libidos, not the external-internal dichotomy, which is more related to sensation (Pe)/action (Je) vs intuition (Pi)/thinkinɡ (Ji).
So there was an error in cateɡorizations from the beɡinninɡ. Junɡ's cateɡorization is fundamentally incompatible with reality.

What I find difficult about measuring a persons personality is there are so many variables that effect mood, which would effect how their personality is measured. As a clinician I’m a bit extraverted, but if you were to “type” me after work , I may seem more introverted. And if I haven’t eaten, even more so. I think people are impacted by their environment a lot more than we realize on a subconscious level that makes our personalities way fluid.

    Cool stuff
I wouldn't throw out categorical thinking entirely, it does have its usefulness.
A spectrum of traits is just projecting data onto several different single dimensions.
It's useful, but like categorical thinking it also has its limitations.
These are all just tools in our toolbox that help us to conceptualize the variance in human cognition.

I'd like to be a part of this study as well! The only question I have is, is it gonna skew the results or mess it up if I'm still in my teenage years? (15 turning 16 years old this year specifically)

Hi Harry, have you heard of about ACT by Steven Hayes, i think that a combination of yours theory with ACT and Prosocial Theory would make a masive actional approach to life a significant live :) thanks for your videos i like your theory.

I really think psychiatry could take a leaf out of CPTs book (it's Emma B btw Harry); I understand the need for categorisation in psychiatry but the overly reductionist approach leaves a lot to be desired. I often wander, as you know, about my own place on the autism spectrum as I don't meet the criteria for having social difficulties/communication difficulties but luckily I found a psychiatrist who was of the same opinion that autism is rather a more extreme/rare deviation of cognitive difference from the norm...My high aptitude of my Si-Ti+ pairing might explain this considering I'm an ENFJ and the fact that I don't struggle, but rather my Ti-Ni+ pairing is higher in convergence than my Fe-Se+, plus the ways I don't seem to fit the typical Fe-Se+ mold. Psychiatries either/or binary system appears to fall short here so I was left at the mercy of finding a clinician who had similar theoretical leanings to myself. Psychiatry also has difficulty delineating what constitutes a qualitative and quantitative difference, in the context of autism irrespective of espousing that autism is a 'spectrum'. I can't help but wander if the likes of CPT will help illuminate that neurodivergency are distinct differences that cluster along a spectrum. I hope this makes sense Harry! I think there's a tendency to categorise people as autistic by external presentation/behaviour and childhood development that doesn't address what's going on on the cognitive level. For example, let's take Ni doms who in childhood might spend a lot of time in their own imaginations and socialisation only becomes a real consideration at a developmental point further along the road. I can't help but wander are we providing interventions that may very well go against somebodies natural predispositions and to what extent psychiatry is culturally informed with regards to what is deemed normative behaviour and development. I think moving in 2013 to espousing that autism is a spectrum was the right move albeit it's a spectrum where the 'blanks haven't been filled in'; it seems like a copy and paste job in my subjective opinion. Also even what constitutes a disorder in psychiatric discourse; this isn't to say at all that different people don't struggle due to being on the spectrum, far from it; I struggle with executive dysfunction and yes, letting go of logical dissonances albeit it does imbue me with a lot of strengths; 'disorder' is highly contextual in this sense. I was talking to Tony Atwood regarding CPT (a renowned autism specialist) who found the intersection between CPT and neurodivergency highly pertinent. I think the more we can work together the more our understanding will increase. It does bother me that certain types, especially INTJs, are likely to be identified as being on the spectrum (of course this isn't a bad thing), as I see in my own clinical practice, when the interventions aren't necessarily helpful at that point in time - it can be somewhat patronising. I also see a lot of INTPs who are yet to fully develop their Fe-Ne pairing; why is psychiatry so quick to pathologise - should we let nature take its course? What constitutes 'normal' is indeed within a small band width within our society. I fear that in a similar vain to MBTI communities, the autism community has become very homogenised with an us vs them mentality; I have friends across the type spectrum who happen to be neurodiverse and neurotypical and fiancé is indeed neurotypical who appreciates my quirks. I've found your discussions on the patreon around mental disorders and type really illuminating; I'd be really excited to contribute in some way through academic study in the future. Apologies for rambling on! I'd love to participate in your study; I'm sure you have the full backing of the community. I'm also interested to see where your career will take you re the intersection between cognition and intelligence; something we rarely talk about in this community. Take care Harry, I'll speak to you in coaching sessions soon. Emma 😊.

I would love to help with the study! I am not sure if I'd be a wildcard or a helpful addition though, because I have DID (aka multiple personalities); depending on which personality state or identity is out over the course of the two weeks, my results could be quite different. For instance, of the two most common personality states, I am fairly confident that one of us would type as an ENFP while another would type as an INFJ.
I am completely fascinated by psychology and extremely excited to see more rigours study into personality and identity in general, so please let me know if I can be of any help with this or future studies!
