I have two iPads strapped to my wall. No real issue with them over the last three years. Fantastic to be able to control your home like you're walking along the corridor of the USS Enterprise.

Eric, I have recently been thinking about a Homey Pro, everything on one spot. Do you think there is an overlap with Apple Home or that new display you where talking about? Or can it really have additional value? Maybe better to wait for the new display. We use Somfy electrical curtains etc, Philips Hue for lights in the home and garden, motion sensors and several automations. we have Apple TV and homepod mini, so enough possibilities. But I am hoping for one central controlsystem.

I’d love a large “e-ink” display. I’d like to replace my family calendar with an e-ink calendar that syncs to iCloud’s calendar and includes Apple Home controls. I’m sold on that version. A 22” TV style display, no thanks I’ll just use my Apple TV. A 6” display as rumored, no thanks I’ll just use my phone.

I’d check it out, for your show21 I recommend removing the extra widgets on the right so that you get a full screen view of photos, weather and whatever else you like. For smart home control the echo hub has a much better UI and doesn’t have ads (at least for now)

I like the idea. I've been considering wall mounting iPads in a couple of places. I don't think I'd be interested in a 6" display. And for my initial use cases, I wouldn't want anything as large as a 21" either.

I have an Aqara door lock - so far, flawless. Kind of a nice surprise since I have a lot of Aqara stuff, and I have occasional issues with reliability. A new smart display - 6”? For $300? Nope. I can’t imagine I’ll be interested. Too small and too pricy and hanging a device on the wall with wires hanging down (or hiring somebody with the skill to properly run power to it)? Yeah, not going to happen this week.

Honestly no smart display are worth it if you have a iPhone, iPad or MacBook. All the functionality will be same all devices. They need to improve HomeKit app and give us more devices type and automation.

The problem with that theory is this device isn’t meant to replace your iPhone or iPad. It’s meant to replace your wall switch which currently isn’t “smart”

all the devices you mentioned have batteries where as this display would plug in providing constant power

First off the smart display would be a good asset to your Apple home set up. But again with Apple‘s track record of being dependable when it comes to the smart home subject. We all know that this will be glitchy and before they can actually get anything working properly. They will Come out with something completely brand new totally different from the original. Before making the device that all of us will spend ungodly amount of money for work. So the idea is nice. But in true Apple fashion. It will under deliver. As far as your smart lock that you mentioned as your sponsor. You may want to mention that in order to work with Apple home and possibly matter over thread. If.Avia ever comes out with one that supports that. It will need to be no greater than 20 feet from your HomePod or Apple TV. Or actually I should say fewer than 15 feet. Since that’s what the distance is from my Apple 4K 128 gig device. I would say the dependability on my level lock plus actually working. Is about 80/20. 20% of the time it actually is connected to my Apple home. So you will have to make sure that you have some type of “home hub” device that is less than 15 feet from that lock in order to be dependable. Because let’s get one thing out in the open. If somebody is going to buy this lock. At least for personal use. They are going to get it specifically to be able to use it with their Apple HomeKit, and home key. If you have to use the key or keypad. Well quite frankly that’s like 10 years ago.
For the premium that people pay to purchase products made by Apple. Apple needs to get with the program and work on dependability rather than bringing new things to the market. They need to get the things that people paid an obscene amount of money for to actually work. Or at the very least offer them a refund.

I like your sponsor’s deadbolt. Avia. I would purchase it if it was more inline with Aqara’s pricing, IE, around $200 not a jaw dropping $350. 😳. Thanks for another great video.
