the Mall is not a public highway, it is part of a Royal Park which is why there are no zebra crossings or lane markings. The Royal Parks Constabulary are in charge here.
A bit late to the ball, but... those lights have been changed now and left turn and forward go at the same time. But yeah, it was a stupid phasing before. As an aside... great to see london how it used to be before all these poxy cycle lanes haha

london is also about 30-40 mins for me to get to by motorbike. used to take about 2-3 hours by train/bus to get to where i needed which i did for 15 years before the bike. plus a bike is cheaper. (im from Bexley)
genuine officers, know there shit and know not how to fuck someones day up instantly. the light should have been a green arrow like in most other places (the light that you mistakenly thought was your green are sometimes a green arrow pointing left in this case. trouble is tho then and i have seen this that people don't go with the filter as they are waiting for a solid green not a arrow green. Everyone fuckes and littraly reads the wrong light aha)
I used to work at Lloyds of London when it was being built and where we used to park the motor we had to walk past that every day. Its 202 feet high and is 202 feet away from where the fire started in pudding lane.
Thanks for a nice and informative tour. I've been to London only once but I recognized several places. I really should come back again. Your video was quite refreshing.. -A Yank from Germany
TheSushiFiend Hi SushiFiend - indeed (as per the other comment from y5jerry below) it was my first time riding in central London and to be fair I didn't pose any risk to the zebra crossing user - but I take your point, and that had I been on a bike test I would have failed. Thanks for watching anyway and pointing out the error of my ways. All the best - TMF.
TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for taking the comment in good humour. Seems to be a lost art these days. This is the first of your videos I've seen, but I see you also fly GA. I learned to fly in a PA28 at EGTF some years ago. Your commentary style is very BA though. Are you an airline pilot?
I had to laugh. "Was it because of the U'ey?" It's probably not a good idea to mention something the cops may not have even seen before they tell you what they stopped you for. It tends to betray a guilty conscience. ;o) I was a Courier for a city firm based in Old Street for a number of years and the West End and central London were my daily Haunts. I remember well the terror I felt on my first day in that job. Apart from the fears of getting lost, losing a package and getting killed, there was the underlying anxiety of trying to stay out of the hands of the police as I negotiated roads I did not know, in one of the most congested cities in Europe. It still amazes me how pressure causes us to learn very quickly and by the end of the first week in that job, the only tangible fear that remained was trying not to get killed. Like you, I found the cops to be entirely reasonable and I never got a single ticket in six years. A few warnings now and then, but overall they were great and left us alone. They understood we had a job to do that was vital for Britain's trade and the nature of it meant were were forced to do stuff other road users did not have to do and would be stamped on if they did. Though it would be a bad idea to take that for granted, it did give us some leeway. For anyone reading this and planning their first trip into central London by bike or car, especially from abroad, a good tip is to check on a map -- not a GPS -- where you are headed and visualise it in terms of the compass. Are you headed generally North, South, East or West? Once you have that down, work out where you will be travelling in relation to the Thames. If the river is directly behind you, you will be heading North. If to your left, you are heading West and if to your right, you are going East on the North side of the river. Cross the river and keep it behind you and you are going South. Once you have that figured out, you just need to pick out some prominent landmarks along your route and look out for them. One thing we are pretty good at in this country is sign posting stuff. So you should not have too many problems. You will be amazed how fast you will learn what looks impossible to learn if you use this system. Enjoyed the video Bro. Thank you. [Quick edit] Just as an aside and a bit of trivia, do you know the Big Ben prayer? I think it is on a plaque inside the bell tower somewhere. Anyway, it goes like this and in time with the chimes: "All through this hour/ Lord, be my guide/ And by Thy power /No foot shall slide" Clearly a prayer the inhabitants of the Houses of Commons and Lords need to recite more often! Happy Christmas everyone and here's wishing you all a wonderful New Year. Toodles.
+InTheNameOfJustice Thanks for the kind words ITNOJ, good to hear from you again - and yes the Uey comment was a school boy error!!! Thanks for the long post and advice - have a great Christmas yourself - TMF
I also stumbled on this video. I’ve been subscribed and watched all of your recent videos the last two years. I love the city of London and named my daughter after it. Great tour. Cheerio from Texas.
ZIPPER Depends on area and type of department, division, duty etc I suppose. Last time I was in Florida, city cops seemed much nicer than county deputies. I actually had a very nice conversation with a city cop on guard duty at a Walmart. Very down to earth bloke. As opposed to a county cop who kept her hand on her sidearm while I talked to her. LoL
yeah. They "offered advice". Which was the right thing to do in my view as the bloke just made an honest mistake as he's not used to driving in City traffic. Fair play, i'm not and have to be a bit carefull in cities. Oddly enough, a lot of city folk baulk at the idea of tearing down country lanes at 90mph in the pitch black, mirrors brushing the raindrops from the overhanging trees and bike squirrelling over potholes and cowshit.
How cool the Police were so nice! Most of the times a traffic light would have a green arrow, but I guess London's different and confusing. Tourists wandering would be my biggest worry. They just walk straight on to the road and probably have a different view on the 'rules of the road'.
You are right about tourists wandering on the road. I was almost run down by a police car in Brussels near the Guild Halls, and I had no idea that I was on the road. It was cobblestone.
As someone who grew up in london and spent my weekends trying to escape to the countryside on my bike, I find it quite funny that you’d choose to ride in London, but I suppose it is a novelty if you don’t do it every day! Nice to see a video showing the nice side of Police, not what some perceive to be “bad”. Nice vid.
Cheers Nats - and yes that's exactly it - just different from my daily rides (which are on country roads)....and top policing too...thanks for watching - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer Cheers, The police get a lot of shit these days, but people forget that the police have to deal with some real fuckheads every day. I'd say 80% of cops are fair and decent people. People post vids where the police are shown to be ignorant of a law or something, but a policeman is not a judge or a solicitor, they don't know the law backwards, they know the basics and have to apply common sense where they have gaps. That's fair enough in my book.
I'm a car driver and I always pull over when I see motorbikes filtering to give them more room and it gives me something to do when I am stuck in traffic. Good video I enjoyed it.
+Grey Matter Good on you sir! I hope I find you on the road sometime (I'm a car driver too of course and do the same whenever I can).....thanks for the kind words - all the best - TMF
Lovely set of traffic lights them what idiot put them in that configuration? if its a left hand filter light it needs to be on the left hand side of the road and never thought I would say this but the police did act decent then
2:53 He mentions having his headlights on fullbeam. Yes it most certainly annoys me! I am a bike and car rider and I NEVER ride or drive with high beam on because it dazzles and distracts other road users. If I am in the car and an idiot behind me has their high beam on I simply adjust my mirrors so I am not being distracted by the dazzling light. Now I cannot see you!
Be careful in bus lanes... I was driving on one recently and a woman literally pulled across me as she didn't expect anything but a bus to come... I hit straight into her :(
Yeah I just jumped straight up. Bike was pretty mashed up, it's still being dealt with. She literally just didn't look. This was in Reading by the way, where similar bus lane rules apply.
I've avoided them since, but I'm wondering whether it would be feasible to ride down it with full beams or beep if If someone begins to indicate.. you never had any problems along them?
JD21 Luckily I've had no issues but keep a keen look out (+ on the BMW I use my aux driving lights, on the Street Triple full beam and now the CRF is Super LOUD ;0)
I ride in bus lanes all the time, if there ain't taxis, motorbikes or buses in them there's cyclists, bad form on her part not to look properly but then people rarely do that's why I always take it easy in bus lanes
thank you for the tour of London. I probably will never get the chance to travel there, but it doesn't matter now, as you have shown me all the sights.
Absolutely brilliant I am blind, I have never done a sight seeing tour of London, and not been to London since I was a young boy when I came to catch a flight, it was fascinating to listen to your commentary and I hope to find someone to bring me one day soon, thank you look forward to another one soon please lol
I can categorically state that it would be impossible to drive around central London without infringing at least one driving regulation, doesn't matter how good you are. Ⓧ=☠=Ⓧ
John Doe He's not a lunatic, just more comfortable in riding and wants to go fast haha. He even said other motorists are more skilled than him, shows he doesn't have much confidence in filtering. Good drivrt still though.
Have to say after your moment of 'Morning Officer....', the roads aren't as laid out as I'm used too (though out the UK)... London is a bit special and has to cater for the mass of pedestrians/tourists (of all countries), but can't say I say I saw a sign (telling you of lanes and directions etc)... but you were very polite and the Offices too... so nice and off you went! Keep it up and I loved you ride down the Mall as I ran the VLM (Virgin London Marathon) in 2016 and it brought back plenty of memories
I know David Croft, the guy who commentates on F1 personally, as I used to play village cricket with him every weekend. The team gave him the nickname ‘bins’ cos he always talked so much sh*t lol.
Think yourself lucky that the bizzies were not behind you when you contravened zebra crossing regulations. You must not proceed over a crossing when a pedestrian is on it.
One of the few video’s I never tire of seeing. London is my favourite city to visit (I’m from Dublin). Just home from Rome where I hired a Vespa for a few days, getting through Rome traffic at rush hour is fun, you should try it sometime lol.
wow, so cool to see these sites the way you have shown them, just names of places and events i have heard over the years that now have a little meaning to them, and it is all so centralized, had no idea the heart of modern society was to be found in such a close proximity and those buildings are an absolute marvel, thank you, enjoy all your other content to, brilliant.
What an excellent excellent video. An informative tour of London - by motorcycle, a really cool guy, and absolutely fantastic police. That's why I love being a Brit and living in London.
Having previously lived in Hillingdon and Harrow area for 30+ years I've been on the A40 far too many times and have driven every inch of tarmac you covered in the video. Lights in Trafalgar Square, Mall, etc are a nightmare. Years ago I inadvertently jumped a red light on Trafalgar Square as I reacted to a set that turned green about 20 metres further round the road. I got pulled over, but like you, I found the officers helpful and lenient. As they said to you it's quite common in that area. Shortest way from Buck House to HoP is Birdcage Walk btw and very scenic :)
I really enjoyed that.. and I think the police were great.. I think they are in the main and in the uk we are lucky to have the force that we have when you hear the stories from abroad.. your camera was remarkably pleasant and stable.. thankyou a great video
I was lucky enough to go on a tour through Buckingham Palace in the early 2000's, Windsor Castle had been on fire and Buckingham Palace was opened for a limited time to the public, was interesting seeing how the other half live. Thanks for rekindling my memories. Cheers from Perth, Australia.
Very good video! The first three times i drove in LOndon and went around the Trafalgar Square roundabout, i ddn't know. I was so busy watching the traffic i didn't noticed that little column sticking up in the middle. I only realised when i was a passenger. Oh how i laughed...
A trip to Specsavers I think as you were unable to read the traffic lights.. You were describing the admiralty, when in fact you were at Horse Guards Parade. The Admiralty is in The Mall.
good to see police officers being reasonable with people who make honest mistakes...its refreshing.

genuine officers, know there shit and know not how to fuck someones day up instantly. the light should have been a green arrow like in most other places (the light that you mistakenly thought was your green are sometimes a green arrow pointing left in this case. trouble is tho then and i have seen this that people don't go with the filter as they are waiting for a solid green not a arrow green.
-A Yank from Germany
two nice guys ,, thumbs up for the traffic cops
Agreed!
Oops, I did a bad thing.....forgive me?
***** Nope, definitely the M40, but they do look much the same :0)
Sure did, it's on the A40 - what the M40 turns into :0)
Tut tut. 5:54 riding over the pedestrian crossing while someone is crossing. Instant fail!
It tends to betray a guilty conscience. ;o)
I was a Courier for a city firm based in Old Street for a number of years and the West End and central London were my daily Haunts.
Anyway, it goes like this and in time with the chimes:
"All through this hour/ Lord, be my guide/ And by
Thy power /No foot shall slide"
Clearly a prayer the inhabitants of the Houses of Commons and Lords need to recite more often!
+TheMissendenFlyer Yeah, sorry for the long post. Just trying to be informative and more interesting than "Good vid, mate" usually is.
+InTheNameOfJustice Thanks - appreciated!
i worked courier firm in old street near hoxton square
Wonderful post.
So kind officers! Great example of how to be professional, polite but get the message delivered.
Exactly - top class policing....
I also stumbled on this video. I’ve been subscribed and watched all of your recent videos the last two years. I love the city of London and named my daughter after it. Great tour. Cheerio from Texas.
Cheers John!
Met police. Now those are what police should be. considerate and not intimidating like most traffic cops.
Man, police are nice in England. nothing like that here in America.
You dont have police in the us, Its just a gang with a lot of power
ZIPPER Depends on area and type of department, division, duty etc I suppose. Last time I was in Florida, city cops seemed much nicer than county deputies. I actually had a very nice conversation with a city cop on guard duty at a Walmart. Very down to earth bloke. As opposed to a county cop who kept her hand on her sidearm while I talked to her. LoL
yeah. They "offered advice". Which was the right thing to do in my view as the bloke just made an honest mistake as he's not used to driving in City traffic. Fair play, i'm not and have to be a bit carefull in cities.
Oddly enough, a lot of city folk baulk at the idea of tearing down country lanes at 90mph in the pitch black, mirrors brushing the raindrops from the overhanging trees and bike squirrelling over potholes and cowshit.
ye but Central London is just the most confusing thing ever
You sir are a very mindful and polite person. You have a great road etiquette. Pleasure to watch your journeys.
Thank you Jonny....
Watching this in Lock down here in the UK
Stay safe everyone. Great video very informative.
I'm surprised he didn't stop you for doing 50mph on that straight part after the lights!
5:50 Yes, come into London more... just make sure you stop when people are crossing the Zebra!! :D
Yeah! No one else picked this up???
Yes I noticed this. He'd fail his test for sure. Hit someone on a crossing and you'd be in a world of trouble!!!
How cool the Police were so nice! Most of the times a traffic light would have a green arrow, but I guess London's different and confusing. Tourists wandering would be my biggest worry. They just walk straight on to the road and probably have a different view on the 'rules of the road'.
Sure thing - cheers for that, and thanks for watching - TMF
You are right about tourists wandering on the road. I was almost run down by a police car in Brussels near the Guild Halls, and I had no idea that I was on the road. It was cobblestone.
Incredibly fine and entertaining (well, educational too) videos you have! We like them a lot! Keep them coming!
+Iivari Dark Thank you, glad you have found them of interest :0)
As someone who grew up in london and spent my weekends trying to escape to the countryside on my bike, I find it quite funny that you’d choose to ride in London, but I suppose it is a novelty if you don’t do it every day! Nice to see a video showing the nice side of Police, not what some perceive to be “bad”. Nice vid.
Cheers Nats - and yes that's exactly it - just different from my daily rides (which are on country roads)....and top policing too...thanks for watching - TMF
great video
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it....
Decent pair of Officers, good for you lads. A credit to your station.
Michael Allen Agreed!
Yea there not all bad
I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AS THERE WAS AMAN ON THE Z/CROSSING.
yeah i saw that.
So far into the video and ive seen him do it twice, the 2nd there was a woman almost half way across it.
Cheers mate been a London cabby myself for almost a decade and been abroad for few months I missed that view so thanks again for that
Lovely set of traffic lights them what idiot put them in that configuration? if its a left hand filter light it needs to be on the left hand side of the road and never thought I would say this but the police did act decent then
Agreed all round!
I hit straight into her :(
Bad news JD21 - hope you weren't hurt?? Great advice/heads-up.....
First time I've enjoyed a bike riders video, where the participant has a complete and functional brain and knows how to use it!.most enjoyable.
Thank you Gerald - appreciated!
I'm from the states and that is a beautiful triumph and sounds great I'm sure it's awesome to ride and smooth
Wow its great to see you are still active even in your earlier videos! Great content.
The UK is one of the few places where the police are just other humans doing their jobs they are great in this country
In America they would have pulled their guns on you and thrown you to the floor whilst making a big unnecessary scene.
+serendipityuk Hence why I still live in Blighty (despite the weather!)!! ;0)
+serendipityuk Or if he was black lol
Why the cops let the white car go ?
Good examples of how reasonable UK police can be
indeed.....good policing I reckon....
thank you for the tour of London. I probably will never get the chance to travel there, but it doesn't matter now, as you have shown me all the sights.
Well it's better in the flesh but glad I helped in some way!
Absolutely brilliant I am blind, I have never done a sight seeing tour of London, and not been to London since I was a young boy when I came to catch a flight, it was fascinating to listen to your commentary and I hope to find someone to bring me one day soon, thank you look forward to another one soon please lol
Wow thank you Keith - that is one of the best comments ever!! Thank you so much for listening and for stopping buy!
I can categorically state that it would be impossible to drive around central London without infringing at least one driving regulation, doesn't matter how good you are.
Ⓧ=☠=Ⓧ
you drive with courtesy and respect, royal Jordanian is just a lunatic.
John Doe He's not a lunatic, just more comfortable in riding and wants to go fast haha. He even said other motorists are more skilled than him, shows he doesn't have much confidence in filtering. Good drivrt still though.
driver*
Your lucky mate , knowing my norms with London and Hertfordshire police they would give me a ticket and points straight up ! 😁😁😁
Really great video..... I haven't been in central London SO long, and the little cameo by the constabulary was rather nice as well :)
Thank you Mark - glad you enjoyed it....
Nice "chips"...I also enjoy them ;)
That's why police in this country are best in the world
+arturas sir Agreed!
Nice police officers to stop and let you know.
Indeed, I had no idea I had jumped a light, when I looked back at the video, it was clear I had - lesson learned....
Thanks for showing me the scenery around Backingham Palace. I was last there in 1978!
My pleasure!
I love this drive through London. The fastest guided tour around!
Glad to be of help!
Honestly who don't you cast formula one? Your voice is perfect for it.
Thank you - where do I sign? :0)
I know David Croft, the guy who commentates on F1 personally, as I used to play village cricket with him every weekend. The team gave him the nickname ‘bins’ cos he always talked so much sh*t lol.
chavs be commenting on here like OMG POLICE BRUTALITY lol
+harry green I think you'll find those are trolls
you got a chav name!
Think yourself lucky that the bizzies were not behind you when you contravened zebra crossing regulations. You must not proceed over a crossing when a pedestrian is on it.
He and everyone else knows that..... we all make mistakes, even you sunshine!
One of the few video’s I never tire of seeing. London is my favourite city to visit (I’m from Dublin). Just home from Rome where I hired a Vespa for a few days, getting through Rome traffic at rush hour is fun, you should try it sometime lol.
Well I’ve ridden in rush hour in Florence, a fairly similar experience I should think….
wow, so cool to see these sites the way you have shown them, just names of places and events i have heard over the years that now have a little meaning to them, and it is all so centralized, had no idea the heart of modern society was to be found in such a close proximity and those buildings are an absolute marvel, thank you, enjoy all your other content to, brilliant.
Very kind of you - thank you.....
Why cant all cops be as nice as them?
if you've any sort of nice exhaust tone or engine grumble bike or car you HAVE TO give it a blip through a tunnel lol it should be the law, 😂😂😂😂
the rozzers were nice and fair I think :D
Agreed - great policing I reckon...
Todd Sadler true... worst bits are some bus lanes are good... some are not good
What an excellent excellent video. An informative tour of London - by motorcycle, a really cool guy, and absolutely fantastic police. That's why I love being a Brit and living in London.
+steve randall Thank you Steve, very kind of you (I've never been "a really cool guy" before so I'm a little shocked!!!)....
You're riding a Triumph; just that alone makes you cool. But you just had a very easy chilled attitude about you throughout the video.
+steve randall Thanks again, glad you thought that (maybe you can talk to my kids!!) :0)
What a brilliant well presented video. Very informative and interesting. London is an amazing place and I love how the coppers were so reasonable.
Yep - textbook policing I reckon...
British Police thumps up
+MrAnton I second that!
Decent Coppers .
Cheers Ian!
I really enjoyed that.. and I think the police were great.. I think they are in the main and in the uk we are lucky to have the force that we have when you hear the stories from abroad.. your camera was remarkably pleasant and stable.. thankyou a great video
I agree - great policing!
Many thanks as was a very nice tour around London.
More vid like this maybe after everything clears out or this maybe the perfect time to go around London without any traffic!!
Really enjoyed this video, very informative as well, you know London better than me and I live in it ! ride safe keep the vids coming.
Well I used to live and work in it for many years.....
Very good video! The first three times i drove in LOndon and went around the Trafalgar Square roundabout, i ddn't know. I was so busy watching the traffic i didn't noticed that little column sticking up in the middle. I only realised when i was a passenger. Oh how i laughed...
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
A trip to Specsavers I think as you were unable to read the traffic lights.. You were describing the admiralty, when in fact you were at Horse Guards Parade. The Admiralty is in The Mall.
