Saint Paisios said something similar to the "holy shrug", roughly: "thoughts are like airplanes - they are only yours if you invite them to land, so just wave as they go by".

Saints are very wise. However this wasn't original and I'm sure he learned it from his spiritual father. When your spiritual father teaches you something profound, don't keep it a secret but pass it on to your godchildren. That way all generations will grow in wisdom.

“You cannot prevent birds from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building a nest in your hair.”
He also likened thoughts to airplanes: “Thoughts are like airplanes flying in the air. If you ignore them, there is no problem. If you pay attention to them, you create an airport inside your head for them to land.”

I like praying when I walk. I take one step and say :"Lord".. Next step :"Jesus"... Next step :"Christ"... Next step:"have"... Next step:"mercy"... Next step :"on me"... Next step:"a sinner"... Next step, I start over again... Sometimes, while walking, whatever neighbourhood I pass by I say :"God, bless, protect, forgive, save the people - alive or dead-who live, lived or will live in this area"...... I had something odd happen just last night. Both my cat and I were uneasy, so I played Orthodox evening prayers on UA-cam. My cat got up and went to the iPad! He snuggled up next to it and totally relaxed, more content than ever.

The greatest trick the devil ever performed was/is convincing human beings that he does not exist.
I am greatly comforted by The Holy Spirit; speaking through Fr. Paul. I went through two episodes in my teen years/early 30s when I thought that rock/heavy metal music was beneficial & used to defend it/thought people were “crazy Christians” for exposing it for what it is.
I used to listen to at least two groups regularly who had symbols designed/assigned to each member of the band. I used to think; oh, that’s just “art.” I was woefully ignorant.
Big label bands in knowledge or in ignorance have aligned themselves with demonic forces. No ifs and or buts about it. I stopped listening to that refuse & entered into Holy Orthodoxy. The confusion, the poltergeist activity stopped in my life/my home.
Glory to God, though; that darkness was needed for my willingness/departure from the wrong road…

Demons are actually Directed Energy that has been weaponized for eons, and the formations of alchemy. From technocratic and particalized weaponry; elemental engineering that was and still is hidden and obscured from mankind. Social media is full of demonic stuff. After praying for a while after a long time I started to notice things. There are always posts that are meant to trigger an emotional response. "Buy this! Get outraged by that! , Look at this woman!, That person has something that you don't, you want that too! etc."

God brought me to Orthodoxy a couple years ago, and what He’s been doing in my life is so beautiful and undeniably divine. It’s like a flower that keeps on opening, more and more lovely, and never wilts. That is how His work feels to me.
But especially since my chrismation, I’ve experienced a greater degree of demonic interference. Everything going wrong before church or an event where God is moving, weird maladies, attacks on mood and motivation, disharmony with someone at the worst times.
All this can and does happen without any help from the dark side. But there is just a different flavor when they are messing with you.
All my life, I have occasionally seen, heard, and felt both holy and unholy spirits. But I think it is scarier when demons are subtle, when they make you believe lies because they align so well with your own pain and insecurities.
The other day, I realized I had been deceived for years into forgoing a path God is pointing me to. The lie had become my truth, part of me. But God is breaking strongholds.
Praise God, He always protects me and always brings good from bad. I am seeing more miracles than ever. May He bless you all ❤

I also began to learn this when I realized the pain from my childhood trauma was keeping me from being able to love the way I desired to. I had to learn how to give these things to Jesus which is a part of the process of falling in love, at least I believe so. This kind of activity happened in the past and it seemed to be connected to my daughter’s sexual assault by a classmate. I prayed one night quietly alone in my room. Not even aloud. The next morning my 3yo said “mom, the rainbow man was here last night and got rid of all the monsters. Look! See them (he points to the edge of our property)! They can’t get in anymore!” Within days, the boy that committed the assault almost came to my home office for homeopathic care without knowing I was the mother of the girl he harmed. His mother tried to make the appt and told me he was hearing voices, losing weight rapidly and needed help. I referred her elsewhere because I knew it was demonic.
Fast forward 5 years, this now young man recently committed suicide and we have suddenly had similar activity in our new home. I asked my daughter if she’s had any contact with him because I knew it was from him. That’s when I found out he killed himself and my daughter has been having dreams of him nightly. I just burnt sage and prayed for Jesus to remove them.

Know that He has conquered death and Hell, because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. "In faith and love draw near" to the lover of your soul, yielding your fear to His love. It'll be fine. He made it so.
And of course, use common sense in situations.

Demons only physically appear to or even attack people as a last resort. Demons do not necessarily want to physically hurt or kill you, they want to make sure you go to hell with them. They do this by temptations, sin, passions, unrepentance, etc.
For example, Saint Moses the Black was pushed into a well by demons because they realised he stopped sinning and could not even be tempted.
If you are still afraid of demons physically appearing to you, always remember the sign of the cross and the Holy Name of Jesus Christ, because when these are invoked, demons tremble in fear and scatter.

My Romanian wife was such a fan of the idea of being a demon. She performed witchcraft. She hand drew tremendous drawings however they were mostly pornographic in nature. She loved horror and listening to serial killer documentaries etc and it showed. She was very violent and said some unholy things. Lust made me a bit blind for she was very beautiful but I always had this hope that one day she will wake up and be a good natured person instead of hating all of humanity. To me she still has a good soul. I know that she is better now and that gives me a little peace. I don't blame her for turning to that way of thinking because she was forced at 15 to go to a private Christian high school here in the states fresh off the boat. The ridicule and hate she experienced from a particular group of Christian kids calling her devil or black sheep became her whole identity. Even her family from a very early age said she was the spawn of Satan because of her mother's actions which is not fair. All of that negative energy and karma directed at her manifested and grew ugly until she beat my head in full force with her fist to my right side temple and we ended our marriage. I could tell she felt awful about what she did giving me permanent brain damage and no amount of apologizing would fix the tension between us. I still loved her even after we almost died cause it happened in the car over an argument. I confess this and ask forgiveness for not being able to control my words and anger while we struggled to start a life together. I ask God that she will be happy and safe for many years. I pray to find peace in my mind some day. It is much better now that I found Christ. I thank the love of my life for all the good times. I do not see myself to ever love another as much as I did her. If she did not do the demonic things she did I would not have turned to God for answers and help. Mulțumesc Doamne că m-ai salvat. Amin.

On psychological injuries. Find out what the cause of the injury and you are halfway to the cure. Don't stop just because you discover an injury; it's just as important to know the cause or you won't be able to cure it. That's why confession is important for the injured party so that the root cause may be discovered in confidence.
As for exorcism - I'll leave that to the experts.
God bless and mercy for all who suffer.

I had incidence happen that created great resentment in me... I bathed in that resentment for about a year, drank too much to kill the pain. Then I knew I needed to forgive and with Jesus I did begin to forgive, more and more. I stopped obsessing and began to feel compassion for the person I had held so much resentment for.
Then, all the resentment and obsessing came rushing back. I began to wonder why it had cycled back with a vengeance. This explains it.
I am now praying and forgiving. Praise Jesus.

As a person who was born to a Christian family , I’ve seen a lot of advice that’s been so harsh, especially for people that are not Christian hearing that must freak them out. Most people love God, but they don’t pray for wisdom the wisdom to teach others in the most effective way

I currently stopped listening to Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Sarcofago, Metallica, played this music all the time, it made me feel alot better (or so i thought) it blinds you of who you become. it's a dangerous dangerous thing.
The motivation for stopping this, is i myself might love the music, but i know Christ does not. and it mocks him, it hurts him, i pray and fight against it as much as i can. i also stopped wearing my favorite bands i listened to. it is a very very tough thing for me but, anything or anyone that consistently mocks god i cannot be around or participate in, which i try hard to do, i pray i keep this path, i pray i fight off this desire and eventually don't feel the need for this music anymore.
I hope these words help someone facing similar battles. Don't live for yourselfs, live for Christ. it is a slippery slope. and i, the worst of worst must learn this the most. may god teach me

The biggest influence to push me into faith in Jesus Christ, was interestingly, the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead.
I heard the song “Gomorrah” and really liked it, but didn’t know what it was about and discovered it’s a story from the Bible. I listened to “Samson and Delilah” same thing and so on and so forth until I realized the majority of there lyrical content is directly linked to the Bible and that in order to better understand this music I love, I need to first read the Bible in it’s entirety.
I don’t worship the band, or Jerry Garcia. I see them nothing more than a vehicle, pointing to something much more important. Jesus Christ.
That being said, I will always love their music and feel a direct connection to God whenever I listen to it.

I am very friendly with a local Anglican minister who came to ministry later in life after a career in hydraulic engineering. During his training he had been praying that the almighty would show him his path and that he was doing what was right. His bishop invited all the trainees to a social event and while there he saw a demonic spirit leave a lady in the crowd and rush toward him when it was quite close it seemed to bounce off some sort of force field around him from where it crawled back to the original person. He is convinced the almighty showed him the power of Christ and the authority he had been given. He is fearless in his ministry.

Everything has been given to us so we can use it, but not everything is of the use to us.
What I like to do is think if something makes me sin, if it makes me lazy, and so on, that's when I will take a step back and consider ridding myself of that thing. So I think a lot of things are depending on the context, for a lot of things we can't just say "Well this is bad because it's secular", it depends on how we use it, and what effect it has on us.
And also, does something or someone try to attack Christianity, especially if it's obvious. Like recently it has been with Monster Energy drinks. I was really big fan of their energy drinks, great flavors, and everything, but recently they put out a monster drink with a woman on the front of a can, and she was holding an apple, the flavor is called "Bad Apple", and on the back there is a part that says "Forget regular apple, bad apple is so good it's almost worth getting kicked out of Eden for", and that's when I drew a line and stopped buying monster drinks.
So first we should observe if something makes us sin, and if it directly attacks Christ and Christianity.
As for movies and similar media that sometimes have some unholy sign, I think it's not always on purpose, cause sometimes authors will see the same sign somewhere else, in some other culture and they will think it will look cool and they don't think much about it.
It's like if you watched the anime "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood", they do use pentagrams and things like that, however, if you look past that, you will see there is actually a good message there, they are fighting for their friends and family, they help people even when they don't get anything in return, they fight against evil which are literally seven deadly sins, and ultimately they sacrifice themselves or parts of them for the greater good.
Also in the beginning of the show, we can see what happens when you try to do something that is against the will of God when they tried to revive their mother and they lost their bodies or parts of their bodies.
So we should always look at the broader picture, and as long as we don't make idols, and as long as Christ is our actual goal and we are trying to be Christ-like, we will be fine.
