    You can get an insurance plan with one of the air ambulance services for not much money. We have a remote place and getting up there in years. I never liked our wood stove until I put in fresh air intake because the cabin was too tight. There are many tricks to keeping a propane fridge going. One thing I find is the little screen on the burner gets dirty over time and needs cleaning. Also you can’t have the back where all the tubes are exposed to radiant heat. I actually had to extend a wall behind it about a foot because even though the wood stove was about 8’ away the radiant heat made it preform bad.

Getting hurt is my worst. Especially being here alone. Old got a go pee..LOL. All is old guys know what you mean. LOL. I’m 30 miles away from town. Can’t forget one thing in town right. No taxes that’s awesome. Do you have a PO Box? The change of it all. Good comment..it gets cheaper..! The more you get in place it will all pay off.....!!!! I know what you mean. I’m not rich either. It all takes money. It’s all in where you spend it. We still have 16 more re days with the sun dropping in the horizon. Then we’re on the uphill. I definitely mark my yard sometimes..!! The summer is the best for traveling by boat, we hardly go out without seeing a humpback or orca. Right after we made this we went to town and I forgot to get battery post clamps. Errrrr
      We do have a PO Box. It’s listed way down in the description.
      It will get cheaper but not before it gets more expensive. lol yeah then we can sit back and reap the rewards.

    We had a impeller break apart (18' open bow Chaparral boat) while on a lake leaving us floating helpless. You can't just walk home if a boat breaks down. Can't imagine having a technical difficulty in the rough open waters. I traded that boat for a atv. So far so good with our Polar atv cart. Nice wide stance. I've had loads just flip to the side and dump with another brand cart.

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому +1

      Yeah when we are in the middle of the passage it’s miles to the nearest shore and that could really suck depending on the water.
      That’s cool you’ve had good successes with the polar atv cart. We just got an atv wagon by bosski and that thing is a little top heavy.
      Hope you have a great rest of your week.

    Hey..I know what might help you with taking your boat out at your place..I saw a trailer in a a harbor freight catalog for 250 dollars..it is made to move boat trailers..has an atv hitch that goes to a tongue and two wheeld..a ball is on the frame..so all you trailer weight and load goes on the two wheels..leaving your atv with only having to pull not bear the full weight..so just like hand boat dolly ..but with an atv hitch..
    also you could just hook it to the trailer and winch the trailer and the boat up to your landing from the anchor tree keeping winch or atv out of the sea water..give it a look...shipping was 150 dollars..but I think it could be made from an old trailer too.

    You have the right boat to get up on the sandy beach but your boat, as you admit, is NOT seaworthy. It should not be in high seas, waves, ever. Stay put or find a bigger, deep V and a marina. You two are hilarious 🤣 I live in Australia and in a small town, you are right about peaceful this happens to be the most peaceful place I have lived. Every now and then I have to go to the city about 120ks away, babysitting duties when needed. I hate it, the smog the constant noise of motor vehicles, I travel up by train and in winter those train stations are like wind tunnels. Helicopters every darn 1/2hr, car horns police ambulances I can go on but won’t. I think our small town is like your Island, peaceful and home....

    Loving your vids. Hi from England 😀

      We get bush planes and float planes that fly from Angoon on their way to Juneau. No commercial airlines though. I have not thought about spear fishing and yes bears do swim. I got some very poor footage on the video of us floating our trailer over to the island. ua-cam.com/video/ZaKXd4PL6Ak/v-deo.html
      Thanks for watching all the way from the other side of the pond.

    Off grid living in Alaska con cutting splitting and stacking firewood lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of firewood and Frozen well pumps pretty much anything water-related and Frozen and in the summer you got mosquitoes big enough to carry away a small dog

    At 14:00 you say "it ain't right" for Juneau stores to charge you sales tax. When you shop in Juneau who paid for the dock you tie to? Or the road you travel on to go to those stores? Or the sewer/water/transportation infrastructure to enable the stores to serve you? You speak of maybe needing emergency services. Who pays for the infrastructure to support those emergency services? Or salaries to the EMTs rushing to help you? All the other towns have cooperation agreements whereby they don't tax each other's residents. You are not in a town per se; however, you utilize Juneau like those who live there. Remember an axiom: nothing in life is free; if you ain't paying for it, someone else is.

    Lol, “high seas” i don’t travel in anything greater than two foot seas... in my open, 18 foot skiff, thats a good way to practice my survival swimming skills... I hate being in cold water...
    My off grid property down on Cleveland peninsula i have plenty of neighbors, 41 of them, but most are only there for a month in the summer (like me until i retire). Smallest village in alaska.
    PRO: lots of good fishing.
    PRO: lots of good hunting.
    PRO: neighbors are few and quiet.
    PRO: no building permit (even though my village is claimed by Wrangell borough).
    PRO: no bills for power, water, etc.
    PRO: you can pee wherever you want
    CON: until bathroom is built, i crap in holes I dig and then bury it.
    CON: building supplies are a truck, boat, ATV ride away.
    CON: emergency response is an hour flight away at BEST (then they will put you on plane to seattle if its anything tough).
    CON: i have a squatter living on my property... a huge brown bear... he hasn’t bothered me yet (just huffed at me when i accidentally found his den), but he stole a deer out of my neighbor’s smoker...so he’s a squatter AND a thief.
    EDIT: why didn’t you use the new intro?

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому +1

      Ha we have a squatter too. Gunner tries to chase him off but his much bigger. You need to dig you an outhouse. It’s a lot easier than digging a hole every time.
      You don’t have any roads just trails right?
      We have summer cabins here too but they hardly come in the summer.
      It’s us and another couple all winter and the. There may be 4 more boats here on any given weekend.
      We went in two days ago to get some battery clamps I forgot to buy. The water was flat calm but on the way back we hit some 5 footers. You just never now when it’s going to kick up. NOAA called to 10 knots and 2 ft or less. They were wrong. 😂
      The pros far out weigh the cons

      My Alaska Dream
      Weather, stop using 1950s technology to get an “all days average” forecast when you can predict waves, wind, swell, rain by the hour with the right apps... i was told by Jena (smart friend in Ketchikan) to use windy.com app. She was right, go to the app store and grab it! TRUST ME ON THIS!
      damned squatters! lol, he never bothered my camp, even when i was away for days at a time, and he didn’t eat me when he had the chance, so I’m not gonna kick him off my land just yet.
      No roads, trail from dock is about 300m to my property along a legal Right Of Way.
      Use the notepad in your phone, make lists of stuff you need, don’t leave the dock without making triple sure you have everything on the list, and it has been packed i to the boat...
      Technology has a lot of stuff to make life easier, we can use the tools that they give us for an easier life off grid...

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому

      Very true. I’ll check out the app. We are lucky that we have a weather station on a reef to the east of us and a island to the west of us. We get real time wind speeds at the click of a button.
      Yeah our bear hasn’t given anyone an issue. It’s the dog and him that has an issue.
      Oh we make notes. We don’t always get everything on the list though or we forget to add something to the list.

      As of right now we do not pay property tax. Juneau is going through the process of trying to annex our island. They’ve tried before unsuccessfully so we will see what happens. Angoon say the land is rightfully theirs and has no plans on annexing. There’s a lot going on right now.
