Been a painter and decorator for over 40 years and I'm still amazed at the crackpot ideas some lazy buggers come up with. Cold water tap and a bit of elbow grease is all you need for emulsions on rollers.
If you are sending the paint down the drain you are not doing the ocean any favors by paint pollution. Paint cleaning water needs to be allowed to evaporate and then put in the trash.
@@bubgum0079 You're wrong. It's still going to be faster done by hand, with the surplus of not wasting energy and time on installing and using complicated gadgets. There is no better gadget than your hand. Of course, doing things by hand asks for some effort, which only not lazy people can forward.
@@happilyisolated What he means is it doesn't take that long to clean rollers by hand and you're gonna have to replace that flimsy gadget every couple uses so it's not worth the effort. Most hack videos on here are useless if you test them out. They just look good
Rather than clean your rollers out between coats, wrap them tightly in a plastic grocery bag. This keeps them from drying out. I've left them for a couple of days, and they're good to go still.
i have put mine in the freezer , when you take them out, half hour before use. i had one for 6 months and it came out exactly the same condition as i put it in. brushes too. if one has been working a long day and are too tired to clean them. wrap in a bag and done. brushes defrost quickly in paint. waterbased of course.
There are drill attachments for brushes and rollers for cleaning them. I have been using one for years. It's called the Dandy paint roller and brush cleaner. I tend to just leave my brushes and rollers in a tub of water over night,if I am not in a hurry though. I am a professional painter. You can also leave oil based brushes in water for a few days without damaging the bristles, just don't cover the handles if they are wooden as they will expand and damage them.
You can also leave a roller with oil base paint in the water overnight or for a couple of days, when ready to use, get a paint spinner, spin it that water will come out.
I do a roller cleaning trick in the back yard with a bucket and high presser hose nozzle by holding the roller head in the bucket and spinning it with the hose. If your careful you stay dry and the roller is clean fairly quick.
I learnt from professional painters. Just detach the roller, without cleaning, back into the bucket. When it's time to use, just reattach. There's really no need to clean. Once done with the project, toss.
Like your plastic bottle preserving method. I usually find whatever plastic wrap I can, remove the roller and place within, I can use it over and over until the roller wears out. That way I don’t use battery power. I’m on a low budget though. Cool stuff though.
My first thought also, so I need a bench grip €140, a welding torch €350, a plastic tub to hold the gigantic roller, a bathtub to clean it afterwards 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 no, I'll stick to the single roller and have the house painted before I use this hack 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Decorators don’t have to worry about reusing product. They come in, act aloof, or like an ass, and leave. I always wash and reuse brushes and rollers. Upfront I invest in quality tools and it pays off
The thing is, you do not want to wash your paint tools at home. No matter what paint you´re using, you shouldnt pour that dirty water out in your sink at home. Paint contains things that cant be cleansed out by water filters. So it will destroy the nature and end up in the water supplies. For example, waterbased paint might sound like a good alternative, but if its waterbased latexpaint its gonna contain super tiny plastic particles. Its better to throw the rolls and brushes when your done. And you can always store your rolls and brushes in double plastic bags until the project your doing is done. Any leftover paint should be left to dry up, when its dried you can just throw it where you would usually throw plastic or metal containers.
I taped two paint trays together when I did this faux finish technique back in the day. I also taped two roller handles together. I didn't get all fancy like this dude, lol.

I pop mine in the washing machine to wash them. A quick 15 minute wash does the job. Why waste time making these crazy ways to clean rollers?

In the time it takes to attach the paint roller to the drill or cut the plastic bottle, you can easily clean multiple paint rolls by hand.
Once you have it done though you can use it over and over again.

That's old school but it works, my father used to do that..

This person's work is wonderful. You are a person who understands art. Thank you👍😎
And never leave brushes standing up on the bristles. Also, soaking the ferrule in water can loosen the glue inside and mess up your brushes.
You can also leave a roller with oil base paint in the water overnight or for a couple of days, when ready to use, get a paint spinner, spin it that water will come out.
Last one all good but we’re do you get the tray to fit it

Totally agree 👍 I left it in the bucket for a few months and it was still as good as new
I put the roller into a freezer bag and usually toss it when I have finished the second coat

ziplock bag and throw in the fridge overnite was a trick my dad taught me
They may not be the best ideas, but they are entertaining 😮
A five in one painter’s tool has a round part to scrape the paint off the roller. It only takes a few seconds. Rinse and it’s like new.
