It's not even actual underwear. It's just the bottom of a leotard or built-in underwear. Some do wear actual underwear that was of the time (big frilly ones or big silky ones). Some wear actual shorts underneath. Very rarely, you will see actual modern knickers To me the whole thing is pointless aa the thrill is lost in the modern era. I'm sure folk got excited at the beginning of the century at seeing the bottom of a leotard, but now? Lol
@@nezkeys79It wasn't a leotard they were wearing then. It was split drawers. They didn't have a seam at the crotch for ease of going to the bathroom. You couldn't take them off without having to take of multiple layers (petticoats, bustlepad/bustle/hoopskirt, corset etc) so they mostly covered when legs stood together and when skirts were that long it was fine. When a dancer however kicked her leg up, you would see everything, hence why it was so scandalous. It wasn't until hemlines rose that you saw seams come about in popularity, of course it did exist before but it wasn't popular, drawers weren't even worn in general until the 19th century excluding colder places where they were sometimes worn for warmth.

It's clearly a leotard with a skirt over it like many dance shows (I've worked as a pianist in dance shows and theatre so not just saying it from this video either). If you meant generally at that time I am pretty sure they wore big frilly / silky knickers underneath (which is way more exciting than the bottom of a leotard lol)
This is a really good troupe! Perfectly coordinated, well matched in height and weight, nice costume details (top knot , booties). And the girls all look joyful!
