I would love to be in the Moulin Rouge but just searched it up and the first thing I read was "MINIMUM height 5"9".....well, guess that dream is crushed!
When I was a dancer there [ Dec 1986 to Jan 1988] the minimum height for a female was 5 FT 7 IN. I was just about tall enough. Wouldn't get in now [ apart from now being too old and too fat as well LOL !]
Ok, let's debunk the myths I see in the comments. I worked briefly there as a dresser (btw I'm glad to see this place again in a vid !). Not all the girls (and boys) looks the same ; Some are 19yo, some in their 40s. You do not have the same body type after twenty years of dance. Plus, some are very tall, more than 6ft, and some... a small 5.4ft, smaller than me. I saw a girl with an almost child-like body and another one with lovely curves. Keep in mind that they are dancers, which is sport. They are athletes. Girls are out of breath and covered in sweat after only ten minutes of french-cancan (which is one of the best part of the show to me), same for the boys, and it keeps going after ; they are wearing leather jacket and dancing, ugh. So, yes, she eat what she wants, but they burn a lot of calories during the two shows. About their make-up, it must fit all costumes, and it's in those places' spirit : It's the same everywhere. Keep in mind that you can be very close to the scenery when you watch the show, or you can be very far. It doesn't matter, you don't pay attention. They all have different faces with different shapes (what I loved too there), and it unites them to have all the same make up. Anyway, if you got the chance, go to see Féerie, it's truly magical.
Jessica M, honey they aren't just gonna hire someone random. Even being rly fit and having gymnastics experience wouldn't be enough. If you start learning and joining classes now though - there's a chance!
Having seen this show twice, I can say it's awesome. I sat transfixed for the whole time I was there. The girls are so talented, the dancing is wonderful, the whole evening will I've goosepipes. GO!!!
FSM ishere No they don’t. They don’t looks as good as Victoria’s Secret models, but they’re in pretty good shape. But it’s not a bad thing they’re in good shape if that’s what you mean. Honestly no one wants to see out of shape people dance lol and you have to be in good shape to be a dancer.
I've seen the Moulin Rouge show in 2019, and it was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and would definitely recommend putting it on your "things to do list" if you ever visit Paris
Thanx so much for this wee peek into La Moulin Rouge. I always dreamed I'd go to Paris after finishing school, work on the streets creating impressionist paintings, sipping endless cafe au laits, then dancing and drinking the night away in some bar at night. Instead, I followed the sensible path, became a Nurse, and have been studying and working ever since. I just finished two exams over 24 hours and this was what I needed to see just to boost my flagging spirits, especially at this time with the COVID-19 pandemic. I still haven't been to Paris either :(
I will forever think that this style of dancing and its costumes will never become outdated. They're the most glamorous, beautiful yet sexy pieces I've ever seen, even to this day.
i love this video. when i was young i watched the movie moulin rouge and i was very sad when i found out it wasn't really the same. its ma fave movie but this still looks awesome
No the Nicole Kidman film is nothing like the real Moulin Rouge. But there are two other films that are more realistic. One is called Moulin Rouge and one is called French Can Can. They were both made in the 1950's I think. I thought the Nicole Kidman film was crap as it was completely different to how it is in reality. That film was made in the 2000's. But the Moulin Rouge has been around since October 1889. It will be famous a lot longer than that silly film !!
lmao "there is an amazing chocolate shop"...The shop is actually Jeff de Bruges which is a big ass belgium corporation that sells the same very average quality in hundreds of cities, it's like saying "oh I know this cute place to get burgers, it's called Mc Donalds"
She could find it amazing the same way someone else could fond McDonald's burgers amazing. Not to mention maybe she just hasn't visitied many other chocolate shops so out of the ones she's been too she liked it the most.
When I studied abroad in Paris in 2015, I went and saw Féerie and it was absolutely amazing. I have so much respect for all the performers. Thank you for a spectacular experience!!
They are all so beautiful! Their bodies are picture perfect TT_TT I'm so jealous! also is there a name for the song that plays at 2:55?? I really really love it!
I saw the show when I was in a Paris a couple of weeks ago and I have to say the show is not worth the amount of money you pay but it's a good "French" experience. I had good sits and there were three or four memorable numbers.
I agree, I was disappointed in the show, great atmosphere but the show was not what I expected, only 1 short cancan and the rest very modern and a bit tacky
I don't understand why they included her advice to "be unique" and "be your own person, have your own style" while showing clips of dozens of dancers all dressed identically and dancing in perfect synchronization. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with this; it just doesn't match what she was saying. Maybe the company does value individuality and welcomes the dancers' input into the routines, but they should have showed this if they want us to take that particular advice seriously.
Alison Byrne their "unique" is just slightly different,I think😆 I have watch cabaret show before and find that some stars have slightly different personality in their moves and it makes them popup from the rest of the crew.
Alison Byrne Well, dances kinda have to be synchronized... you can be unique and your own person but still wear the same costumes and do the same choreography....
My motto was, 'I want to have a job where I don't know whether I'm working or playing'. Like anything else the satisfaction can go up and down. But overall it feels great and I've always felt I'm being more of who I am.
The food may be terrible and the champagne is even worse but the Moulin Rouge will take up residence in your soul. The history in that building & in Momartre is a wild circus. Working there must be a dream!
+One Nine Yeah, I noticed that in other "theatrical" videos as well. In my opinion, she didn't even look the same after she'd applied all that makeup...
I get the feeling that Moulin Rouge management wanted a specific image to come across in the interview. For one, the Moulin Rouge dancers have the same shape as show girls in Las Vegas or the Rockettes. They are very thin, but very buxom in comparison to their overall weight and shape. Dancers are athletes and it seemed insincere that the Moulin Rouge dancers can eat whatever they want. Seems more like they would need to make sure they are getting the right kinds of carbs and protein and they probably have mandatory weigh-ins to prevent any of the dancers from gaining much weight. I think the dancer wanted to quell any notion of food restriction or eating disorders. Notice the focus on chocolates and sweets? She also wanted to show that the Moulin Rouge is a sort of a family. Possibly. But many dance professions are still about being the best, or getting the best dance role. There is a lot of competition in dance as there is always someone that can do higher leg kicks, are younger or prettier, etc. For those saying that the dancers are thin because they dance. The answer is yes and no. There are professional dancers of all sizes and shapes, some are thicker or have more muscle. They are dancers, just maybe not the image or look that the Moulin Rouge wants to project in its brand. Many modern dancers have shapes that are curvier with more muscle than the Moulin Rouge or showgirls image. To be a Vegas showgirl or a dancer at the Moulin Rouge, you probably have to have the type of body type that stays slim more easily, or you have a different body type and know what foods to eat and how often to exercise to keep the shape that the company prefers. It seems like this video wanted to show how great and carefree being a Moulin Rouge dancer can be. 😳
Brie Girlll I personally don’t know if you know, but it is impossible to be fat jn the dance world. The amount you dance and train before you become a professional is so great that you would burn all the fat. I am a dancer and i literally eat mcdonald’s everyday, yet i’m still around 100 pounds
Considering that "professional" dancing today can be anything from the Royal Opera House to shaking your tits and ass on your premium snapchat, that's a pretty wide net.
I agree, I danced burlesque all over the world for 8 years. This is some sort of propaganda. Backstage in the changing room we spoke about Botox, diet, best way to vomit food out and plastic surgery. Girls can be wonderful but also I can get really nasty. Most of my experiences were less pleasant. I love being a dancer. But I'm glad I dont ha e to compete with the others any longer ...my body type was never on the thin side. I had to starve myself to be lean, even though I was doing pole for multiple hours a day.
I was thinking that but they do dance every single night and those are some serious workout there... also I imagine dancers practice a lot so they eat whatever they want and work it all off
+Rabi Little yes but I mean they're all the same height, skin tone, and probably have to work very hard on their bodies. That's kind of their brand, they all have to look the same.
Isabelle Anderson It's all about the legs so of course Moulin Rouge dancers have to be tall :) And I think all performers in general work hard to look good on stage/camera. However I am as confused as you are regarding the uniform skin tone of the dancers... D;
Isabelle Anderson They can eat whatever they want but they can't exceed 2 k (Idk how they say that in the U.S.A /U.K ...) of there weight in the beginning. Example: The girl weight 50 so her max will be 52-53 ^^ (Sorry for my bad english )
All the people saying they all look the same... Of course people who are unfamiliar to you and wear the exact same makeup and costume look similar to you.
Aaaagggghhh!!!!! She's a Dubliner!!!! So cool to know one of our own are working there. I LOOOOOOOVE THIS!!!!! Also I love that she said you can eat whatever you want because they like you to have a womanly figure. So they get plennnnnty of exercise, and can treat themselves whenever they want! Whoever put that in should be congratulated.
Within reason obviously. It depends on each individual dancer and their metabolism. When I was a dancer there I most certainly could not eat whatever I wanted. Myself and a good few others had to be very careful as I know personally I gained weight very easily.
Lisa O'Brien Oh yes but I probably should have qualified I was thinking in comparison to ballerinas. She can have a regular decent diet and treat herself, but ballerinas have to live SO strictly
Lisa O'Brien oh I did notice you said you were a dancer *there*!! That's amazing. I heard there was a family show and an adults show? So many rumours. Do they teach you about dancers from way back when? Apparently Nini 'Legs in The Air' was real
I am just coming back from Paris and I have been there at the show and I couldnt stop but admiring the dancers .they are so professional.the costumes they are wearing are luxurious and the flexibility of their bodies is incredible. The tickets are expensive ,but the work that they are doing woth mjch more ,trust me
It's what being a chorus girl is all about. The exact same in the Corps De Ballet in a ballet company. They all look alike because they have to. They are background dancers. The soloists and principals/singers are the main performers.
Even if uniqueness doesn't show during choreography, its uniqueness within the group itself that makes the group amazing. It can kind of be compared with my drumline; a drumline is a strict section and have strict movements during performances and we all are a uniform group when playing music. But within the group itself, we are all unique and have our own styles of playing. Our uniqueness is what makes us a family, even if the audience doesn't see it! I can't imagine it being much different within groups like this, too.
Oh. Good. Gravy. How many people do you know that are Moulon Rouge dancers? That's a pretty damn unique life choice. She also was talking about the auditions. You have to stand out and be unique out of hundreds of applicants.
Pink Fairy it's because they dance and train a great deal burning many many calories. Therefore, if they are 'less' they would be very thin. That's why she suggested they can eat what they want to avoid losing such a great deal of weight
"womanly figure" means having visible breasts and hips together with a small waist. It does NOT mean having thick legs and being fat. Just as "curvy" means having curves, not being overweight and looking like a barrel.
I'm 14 and I'm 5'8
Khloé Star same! I could never be a professional dancer due to my height 😭 soul crushing
I'm five one and a half inches tall
Also the show I saw was topless so see at your own risk.
Le Sac Humide Dans le Grenier yes, I can confirm everything you've written here!
Le Sac Humide Dans le Grenier so do you not need any dancing experience? If you can move well & have potential to learn to dances would they hire you?
Jessica M I think you would have to have some kind of recognition or a reference like a current dance teacher.
ㅇ
Jessica M, honey they aren't just gonna hire someone random. Even being rly fit and having gymnastics experience wouldn't be enough. If you start learning and joining classes now though - there's a chance!
This is so great! She is so cute. It's so nice to see Paris from her perspective. Love this video. Thanks Mode! :D
When I heard her accent I didn't think her surname would be Van den Berg Cook.
Sira Mea me neither!! Maybe her German ancestors moved to Ireland. If that surname is German.
I think the surname is dutch and not german, still not sure.
Xènia Vilaplana you are right. It's Dutch. :)
Yeah figured she was dutch when she said her name but the accent made me doubt haha
Yeah that's definitily an Irish accent and I was expecting an Irish surname 😂
She has amazing taste in clothing.
megan biles ultimate chic
YES! The all black combination she was wearing floored me *.* LOVED IT
Cuz shes from Europe
Yas
Es modelo aparte de bailarina, la vi desfilar y es esplendida
"Really, you can kind of eat whatever you want in this job because they like you to have a womanly figure" Pay attention to this.
I would take that way too literally and stuff myself with cake all day lol
+pampam i guess you can't really put that much weight on when you professionelle dance every day for a few hours
I love that
++scarlett8895 Good one, Scarlette!
Adephonsus They obviously dance every night so they loose lots calories
I love that they all look so athletic instead of just super skinny
Love. Very insightful. Plus she was lovely and I adore Paris. I feel very at home there.
When i was a teenager i was in Paris and my dad took me there. I found the atmosphere very charming and its a memory I'll carry my whole life.
First of all, she is gorgeous, secondly, this is a great series and please never stop doing it! :) Also, she is doing such a good job!! :)
She really reminds me of Emily Blunt!
me too
yass
omg yah
Same!
Yes! (It was on the tip of my tongue but couldn't think of it...thanks)
She is not only very beautiful, but also classy. A real gem of a woman.
Can you imagine telling your grandchildren you were once a dancer at the Legendary Moulin Rouge . And the fabulous life you'd loved in Paris 😲
Having seen this show twice, I can say it's awesome. I sat transfixed for the whole time I was there. The girls are so talented, the dancing is wonderful, the whole evening will I've goosepipes. GO!!!
If you're dancing every night you're probably burning hella calories anyway.
I met her and her sister as her mother Hilde used to be my ballet teacher :)
This is my DREAM job, I love dancing, performing and I'm learning French.
I've been watching this movie for several years. Love Isabelle, her taste of style and cognac jacket! :D
They all look like victorias secret models
FSM ishere LOL VS models don’t even have hips or shaped legs
@@anys2793 Neither do these women.
No they have more curves but I think it is very pretty!
Michelle Paul that’s kinda fatphobic
I went to the Moulin Rouge circa 1986. We got in free as my girlfriend's friend was a dancer there. Had an amazing time. Would love to go back again!
You guys should do my life as an opera singer. That would be super interesting!
Katherine Craig are you a solist or in a choir? I've been singing in the children's chorus of my opera for 7 years now, and it has been amazing!
Who says that?
Reppin' Ireland in the Moulin Rouge!
Nice to find another Irish person
I live in Newry. From Manchester originally. Danced at the Moulin Rouge in the Eighties for a year.
I love dancing, Paris and the Moulin Rouge. Definetly a dream job!
And the girl was so nice and down to earth. I think she'd be a good friend. ❤️
I've seen a lot of "I am-"Videos by now. But I always return to this one. It is my absolute favorite!
I've seen the Moulin Rouge show in 2019, and it was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and would definitely recommend putting it on your "things to do list" if you ever visit Paris
She really is astonishingly beautiful.
Definitely added onto my bucket list. I would love to see this live
I was lucky enough to see it on my birthday last week, it's an amazing show. The can can is definitely the highlight.
Thanx so much for this wee peek into La Moulin Rouge. I always dreamed I'd go to Paris after finishing school, work on the streets creating impressionist paintings, sipping endless cafe au laits, then dancing and drinking the night away in some bar at night. I love this series. And good job, Isabelle!
I was there yesterday!!! love love love Paris
This was so interesting, id love to have her job
It is 6 nights a week, 2 shows a night.
She is ridiculously beautiful!!!!!!!
Γεια
Their costumes are gorgeous!

Ayyyy ye she's irish she's probably from around Dublin same as me
these costumes are amazing!
I will forever think that this style of dancing and its costumes will never become outdated. They're the most glamorous, beautiful yet sexy pieces I've ever seen, even to this day.
I was at the Moulin Rouge on my birthday 🎂 a year ago and I had a great time.
Saw the show last night. It was SPECTACULAR!
Thats so cool. Always wanted to go there
My wife and I were in Paris April 2018......Love the city!!!!!Next time we will see the show!
Beautiful Irish ladies.
I love how they encourage them to embrace their bodies!
i love this video. when i was young i watched the movie moulin rouge and i was very sad when i found out it wasn't really the same. its ma fave movie but this still looks awesome

she's stunningly beautiful
i love mode
I’ve been stuck in this rabbit hole of different types of dances from all around the world and I regret nothing.
I was in that shop with chocolate and it was soooo expensive 😂 Beautiful video 💕
but so good
How very inspiring! Those splits are incredible! I'd love to see a show at Moulin Rouge :)
lmao "there is an amazing chocolate shop"...The shop is actually Jeff de Bruges which is a big ass belgium corporation that sells the same very average quality in hundreds of cities, it's like saying "oh I know this cute place to get burgers, it's called Mc Donalds"
Marion Menard I thought that too! She should've gone to "à la mere de famille" or "la durée" or smth which are much better
I was searching for a comment about that. There are shops that sell amazing chocolate in Paris but Jeff de Bruges isn't one of them.
She could find it amazing the same way someone else could fond McDonald's burgers amazing. Not to mention maybe she just hasn't visitied many other chocolate shops so out of the ones she's been too she liked it the most.
Ahhhh, Paris. The city of unnecessary pretension 😆
@Molly Dottino is it really? What do you have for sweets then?
When I studied abroad in Paris in 2015, I went and saw Féerie and it was absolutely amazing. I have so much respect for all the performers. Thank you for a spectacular experience!!

Azure Kate I love it so much too! I wish I knew the song
I have a great coffee table book about the Moulin Rouge all the history, costumes, amazing dancers. Its wonderful such an iconic place lasts still.
OMG her mum was my old ballet teacher
Hazel Wonderland same i used to dance for her too!
I loved every bit of this!!!
How much does a ticket cost there?
Around $130
I paid €100 ish when I lived in Paris in 2018
Does anyone know the title of the accordion song who begins at 2:54 ?
Beautiful presentation! Thank you for this glimpse into this world!

Does anyone know the music at 2:54 ?
their clothes and costumes give the Rio's Carnival feeling! Can Can but it looks like Samba! makes u wanna dance ahahahah
Irish, without the Irish accent
She does have an Irish accent lol, a soft north Dublin one.
She definitely has an accent....
These costumes are gorgeous

She was in a Belgian shop ahah
they're so beautiful !
After having watched so many Cirque do Soleil videos, this kind of stuff looks really REALLY easy...
Yeah but it’s not they’re different styles of performance - you wouldn’t ask a ballet dancer to do the acrobatics of a cirque de soleil performer
Le nazir (1:23) is honestly one of the best places I’ve ever eaten at. I recommend HIGHLY!!
okay moving to paris bc I have a new job 😛
Hope you enjoy it. ~frenchie

Are her eyes violet???? 😱😱
OMG! THEY TOTALLY ARE!!
What a wonderful Alexandria's Syndrome.
+EmmDelilah gbba Alexandria's Genesis/ Alexandria's syndrome isn't real... www.snopes.com/politics/medical/alexandriasgenesis.asp
citrine skies
But what's about Elizabeth Taylor?
+EmmDelilah gbba her eyes were just deep blue and in some lighting looked violet
I am just coming back from Paris and I have been there at the show and I couldnt stop but admiring the dancers .they are so professional.the costumes they are wearing are luxurious and the flexibility of their bodies is incredible. The tickets are expensive ,but the work that they are doing woth mjch more ,trust me
be unique, be your own person, to get the job then follow a coregraphy where non of that shows.. nice
What an amazing life style! Love it
want her job♡
Wow some of those costumes look heavy as heck... Bravo!
I saw a fight break out at the cafe she came out of LOL
Her French is really good, idk for how long she has been practicing it but she’s real good 👌🏻
4:03 and I oop
SO AMAZING!!!❤️
"You can eat whatever you want because they want you to have a womanly figure" *has pencil legs and is a size double 0*
She has a dancers body, you jealous idiot
1. She dances 2. Womanly figure doesn’t mean over weight. Don’t be triggered
Sierra Laura she didn't say a womanly figure means overweight just not size zero.....
