This guy has been one of the benchmarks by which I assess other recording artists, particularly christian ones. Seldom matched, never surpassed.

I've been following Michael and his work since the mid-seventies. High on the all-time list of my favorite musicians. Thanks for this!!!

I got to do some studio singing in 1982 and did "One more song for You" as a choral demo package for Hal Leonard publishing. I went looking for Michael and Stormie Omartian music when I got home and found "Mainstream" right off the bat. That album was amazing, almost beyond words and helped me spiritually more than I can say. I love the guy.

i thought the mainstream title meant it was less spiritual than his christian records

@@soulkiss1001 The 'mainstream' title referred to the center of God's will. Choosing your course and making decisions by the Spirit of God. Allegorical.

he also played piano on my favourite songs by Albert Hammond in 1972-74 and my favourite song by him is Annie the poet (1977) with lyrics by Stormie , his wife, who wrote all the lyrics to his own albums .

Great interview -I like your style a lot! Great to let people share what they have...
I've been a fan since I first heard Whitehorse in 1975. All these years later its still wonderful music and the quality of the musicianship is just not to be believed. Years later I can understand why Steel Dan (the most finicky of all finickiness) would want him

About five years ago while looking at labels in CD’s and records, I discovered Omartian’s name next to all of my favorite songs by different artists.

This guy, is just a piano genius: I became a huge fan because of the unreal piano parts he played on the' 'Deal em again' cut from Chris Cross' 'Another Page ' album.

Agreed, and that’s an incredible album - Another Page. Honestly at least as good as his first. MO killed it again. He’s THE best!

Word of advice that's four years late: If your subject is going somewhere, let them go. NEVER try to reign them in. Omar is a really nice guy and he let you get away with it. Cut someone else off and you will end up causing problems for yourself and they'll stop exploring. Just let them go.

I wish he would have talked about the theme and the music he made for the movie "Tunnelvision" in 1976. It was a crummy and crude movie as I found out later, but I had a record of the theme. It was hip and unique, and years later I found out that he wrote and arranged it. I always wondered if he sang it also. Anybody else heard this?

Yes, I am not surprised that you are prodigious/were prodigious. Your ideas were brilliant THEN. That is genius, but yes, you're the exceptionally gifted one, one of the best pianists in the world and this was obvious years and years ago. Keep producing!

I loved his piano work on Logging and Messina's first two albums. He was so tasty and soulful. It was very inspiring to a young aspiring player. Glad somebody actually made it because I sure didn't.

At least you tried and had the guts. Think about all the dreamers who didn't. What is making it anyway? I've played with all kinds of famous people. 3 bucks buys me a cup of coffee.
