I am 74 as well ! I believe the glove box clip was broken in a similar fashion at a shop and hope I can fix mine the way out lined ! Thanks. ( may wait for a warmer day ) lol.

Try putting some synthetic motorcycle grease on the lower piston arm, I saw a lot of plastic powder on mine. I fixed a lot of small parts and appliances with that grease and they worked better than when they were new.
