Happened to me too, except I didn’t know where it went, but then I saw the video and realized the damper flew into the glove box.
Found the damper on the floor one day and realised it was dislodged while changing cabin air filter. Clear and concise video, it topped my search result and this has solved what i am looking for immediately. 👍
Thank you very much for this video. I noticed that my glove box would "drop" after I took my RAV4 for a maintenance appointment and I ended up finding the damper lodged within the internal portion of the car (behind the globe box). I came across this video to learn how to put it back on and the issue is now resolved. Much appreciated!
2015 RAV 4 here...My problem seems to be on the car side--the little male piece that sticks out at the upper end of the inner plastic molding, the piece that the little hole of the shock grabs onto, it's got a broken-off end or for some other reason it won't attach securely anymore. The shock itself is fine and the glove box connection is 100% at the bottom. I can keep popping it back on at the upper part when it comes off, but mostly I just try to remember to open and close it gently and it'll stay on. It's something on the car side but I can't imagine replacing the entire plastic inner molding just for that broken piece. Taking it to dealer for regular maintenance and he'll have a look but that will probably be his conclusion too. For an other wise fantastic car that part was not very well thought out IMO.

I was just checking to see if my dealer did replace my cabin filter and this thing came out I was so scared didn't even know what was it. Thank God I was able to find out and this video help me fix it 😅 thank u so much
I couldn't figure out why that thing had 2 holes. But I checked this site to see if I did it right. I did. Maybe the 2 holes are needed to use one part on 2 different glove boxes.
OMG took apart had no idea how to put back together because I didn't see where the damper came from, 30 minutes of searching UA-cam and I had it back on, thanks so much
also replaced cabin filter which service job at Chevy dealer was $70
Thank you for posting this. I watched this after my glove box got loose and was leaning towards the floor and the damper was laying on the floor. Prior to that, the glove box door would magically open up. I thought it had something to do with the latch. Had it all put back together within five minutes after watching the video.

Thanks for the video. I replaced the Cabin Filter, and that whole dampner came off. I thought I put it together right, but then the glove box kept opening by itself every once in awhile. Seems fine now.
Thanks so much for posting this! I just changed the cabin air filter on my 2012 Scion Xb and this part fell out (an oil change place had shown me the dirty filter). I had no idea what this part was or how it fit back in. I will try to put it back together properly now. The part looks the same. Such a helpful video!!!
Thanks for posting this. I was looking for this because some shop did a 20 point check and left everything out without putting it back in place.
This worked for my 2023 Corolla Cross when the damper fell off while I was replacing the cabin air filter!
I opened and accidentally came out thank you for showing the video I have RAV4 XLE 2018 exactly the same thing
This video also worked for a 2017 Highlander. What confused me before I found this video is why there were two holes in the glove box damper or glove box support, as Toyota refers to it, when it only attaches to the front hole. Strange that only one hole is utilized. Why does it have two? Anyway, thanks for your time.

I am trying to find a way to reinstall the glovebox damper in 2017 mazda 3. Fell out after I was attempting to lower the glovebox and I'm am lost of how it goes back in
I felt kind of dumb after I watched this video and the one on replacing the glove box. I do everything on my car from plugs, to brakes, calipers, shocks, struts. everything electrical, o2 sensors, change the oil, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, diff fluid: everything that doesn't require an engine lift, I do. I opened my glove box too far because something was stuck behind it, and because i was in a hurry doing deliveries I didn't look closely at either part. I couldn't get it back in. Thanks!

When I do the first part of putting the new piece back in it seems to come off easily. The little part that sticks out is not broken. Is there something I can put like a washer to keep it in place?

What happens when someone broke the damper clip that's on the car?
Same problem I got, upper clip is missing. I probably need to go to dealer to get pin. I think important part of video is to put upper part of damper on before putting actual glove box in.
