As a combat veteran I gatta say I can’t imagine hearing hundreds to thousands of men slamming swords, shields, armor etc.. for hours combined with screaming. It sounds brutal hearing two guys duel enough with little screaming but I can’t imagine a battlefield. Respect to all warriors in the past. Thanks for the cool content.

You can see him drop his axe, gauntlets and take his helmet off instantly after the blow. I think he realised he’d potentially misplaced a shot or hurt the guy from his reaction. A good friend who cared about his safety.
I can use both but I have a preference with right hand on the grip and guard, a friend of mine is a left-hander and he use the same hand on the grip. An other friend is a right hander and loves to us the left hand on the grip :D. When I fight someone, who us a different stance it doesn't often matter! The principles stay and often I didn't recognize a difference!
Were people « allowed » to be left handed back then ? My grandpa from the 50s was originally left handed, but his teachers bullied him into only using his right hand until he became just as good with it. I guess medieval nobles could have been raised in a similar way, or wasn’t that a thing until centuries later ?
The way he stabbed the guy with the axe, the guy's audible groan, followed by him dropping his axe and his stance and presumably following to fall on the ground after the video was cut was such a RAW moment... wish they portrayed more fight scenes in movies, TV shows and video games like that

They do, they just don't give a fuck. They usually only hire experts to have that in the credits, to seem more professional or like if they did their research, but usually they either don't ask for their input, or they dismiss it completely

You'd change your tune pretty quick if you ever fenced against an Olympic level opponent. I've had the bruises to show for it, they're not gentle taps with spaghetti noodles like people imagine.
@@PlatinumGaming67 yeah I'd actually love to see Buhurt and HEMA in the Olympics, I think I just get a little defensive when I see people acting like Olympic fencing isn't "real" sword fighting, especially since classically it was used as training for duels with sharp weapons. It's definitely evolved but not as much as you would expect, and even with protective gear a broken tip on a fencing sword (especially a foil or epee) can be deadly.
Love it when people actually put their armor on the line when explaining HEMA. Can't imagine the money spent to get any dents out and other repairs from these demonstrations.

Anyways rant aside could you imagine watching two real experienced warriors duel? I’d imagine nothing comes even remotely close to it. Sure there are professional fencers who have been training since they were children. But I’m talking about actual soldiers getting to duel. Even if it wasn’t to the death, as long as they knew what it’s like to, it makes a world of difference.
Well the textbook explanations sound great! Experts, we should get some mildly fit men in armour to demonstrate the examples while not matching the examples. And make them tired while not actually fighting along side anyone in a battle.

They will even have simulators that you or I could enter and fight it out with a vast array of opponents in all kinds of scenarios. The best part of that being the fact that you can learn and improve even after making lethal errors or being beaten by a better fighter.

Because the world's greatest warriors, and fighters do not use these weapons anymore. The strongest athletes with the genetics to be the toughest are in fighting sports, the armed forces, or other sports and the rewards for competing aren't what they were back in the times these weapons were used. If that makes sense?
As someone who's actually done combat in full suit armor like this, I always love how in media full suit armors always shown as this like very smooth dignified choreographed maneuvers and I'm happy that your channel shows that the reality is that it looks like two Transformers that are drunk and are trying to have sex with each other.

Face to face battles usually lasted only minutes... cause no one has the stamina to withstand fighting in full plate armor for over literally hours

Most knights used Warhammer/maces and a polearm of some kind.
The common rable had spears or warhammers. Swords were sidearms.
You'd be surprised how easy it can be to get your ears rung in armored combat. Not every strike but man some shots just hit.

I always wondered how a left handed knight would do in a duel. Probably the best fighters could use both hands and stances interchangeably.

My armor is forged by myself, some of my friends buy armor from smith's like arma fora (Russian smith from Moskau).

Doesn't make a huge difference. If you have a wide stance you can translate the hand positions to both sides.
