Absolutely breathtaking camera work, super interesting-so glad to see and hear Eugene Stumbling Bear's comments. Our parents took us to the Medicine Lodge peace treaty in the 70's but I was too young to follow much of the action. Still remember it, though, and now I want to go back to the area. Thank you so much for the countless hours spent on this-it's important work.
Excellent video with outstanding information with history of Kansas.
Your production and narration are amazing!
My Maternal Grandmother came out of this area. Now that I’m older I wish I had took the time to learn all I could of my ancestors. Of course Grandma and my own mother have passed, now there is nobody left to get the history from.
I love biking the backroads in this country - so far just between Coats and Sun/Lake Cities. I need to discover more roads that are public and which are private. It's hard to tell sometimes, but it's excellent gravel cycling territory. I love living nearby.
I would recommend taking Gyp Hill Rd to Scenic Dr and ride that to Lake City Rd. Sure to be a kick ass trip.
My parents took our family on a day trip there nearly 40 years ago. I was just amazed as a kid and it felt like we had stepped into another world lost to time. I have memories of that trip that have lasted a lifetime.
Dude your channel is amazing. Incredible cinematography
@mistaajones thank you my friend! Would it be helpful if I also shared some maps? I saw on another comment you were interested in camping in the fall and winter.
@@abtfilmskansas maps would be awesome! or even just specific location names like trails, parks, etc. of where some of the footage is taken. i believe one you mentioned was elk river trail (15 miles point to point) which i've checked out and is on the list!
@@mistaajones may I have your email? I'll send a bunch of maps!
@@abtfilmskansas just sent you one to the address on your website
Love this very interesting an cool to learn
Incredible film depicting the history and unique geography of Medicine Hills, Kansas. I can’t wait to visit.
Medicine Lodge, KS is the town and the Medicine Hills, Gypsum Hills, Red Hills are the names given to the geology west of town.
Thank you.
Great video of Medicine Lodge! Some of my fondest childhood memories are of Medicine Lodge, Ks. My mother and father both grew up in Medicine Lodge, Ks. My grand parents (Stallard), lived on Main Street in Medicine Lodge. My grand parents on my dads side (Wheat), farmed SE of Medicine Lodge. Very special place.👍🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting! Funny about the bank robbery, but sad about the government not honoring the peace treaty. Suzi and I will have to do some exploring while traveling between our homes!
Love that place as its in my blood... G.M. Martin is my great grand father. who resided in Medicine Lodge.
Great video! It’s really sad it’s all on almost completely private land though. A state park with some hiking trails and a campground could really help others experience the area in addition to presenting educational and conservation opportunities as well. I know many who simply trespass while respecting the environment since the land is so widely inaccessible.
I'm leading a hike through there on April 22 at 11am! Come join us! 6 miles of rugged awesomeness, plus camping and lunch!
@@abtfilmskansas I actually just got the invite over Facebook! I’m excited to meet others passionate about Kansas and explore the land!
@abtfilmskansas if this happens again, let me know! I'm basically a local amd would love to see more of that country
Awesome!!! Thanks
Well done, Nick!!
great video, use to hunt within a half mile of gyp hills scenic drive. Wonderful to see a different view.
Really loving your channel!
The hills have a kind of rugged and wild look to them and have a rich history of buttes and canyons and stuff.
I'm from Medicine Lodge! Thanks for making this video!
Most welcome! I love Medicine Lodge. Wish I could live there!
@@abtfilmskansas My family owns a decent amount of houses there if you're interested.
@@adamfoulkrod4732 I'm really interested in getting some land out there.
SUPER FREEKIN AMAZING FILM BROTHER!!! WOW!!! So much history!! Were there many Mormons back there in the founding days??
Thank you so much!! I'm not sure to be honest, I'll have to research that.
I was went down that way 40 years ago to see it. Stopped at store in Sun City for directions and was essentially told to fu*king forget about it. Unfortunately, that's a prevailing attitude.

In the picture of the posse from Medicine Lodge, does anyone know who the tall man on the right is? The one with the light colored pants, dark vest and light hat?
Great video. Beautiful part of Kansas. Sorry you included an image of a noose in the beginning, given it's history associated with Jim Crow and lynching.
Thanks Larry. The noose had nothing to do with Jim Crow. It was in regards to the bank robbers that were hanged in Medicine Lodge, which is why I showed the historical photo of the robbers along with it. I understand being sensitive with imagery, but hangings happened in the old west.
It's more associated with horse thieves. You must be from the East coast?
@@bursebladesbits boot Hill, in Dodge city still has a noose hanging from a tree that was over 50 years ago and it’s still there
