I normally spend months teaching my 7th graders about Kansas history, but here is nearly all of that content in one video. One really, really epic video. The script for the video was made by some of my 7th grade students from this past year. They did a phenomenal job!
It's a meme that's been going around for a while everyone replies a comment saying darude-sandstorm and it's because a guy liked the song and he made a video and replayed the song 5 times and that's how the meme started but it's a pretty good song.
+Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel I was thinking the same thing and told my sister that she will learn more in this sixteen minute video than we ever learned in Kansas History! This is great and it's also full of students' humor! I love this!
Hello from Wellington, Kansas! I spent my childhood summers growing up in Wichita, and my friends online are confused on why I love Kansas so much. Simply put, my life is here. It's a much more beautiful place than people give it credit for.
The French also explored Kansas back in the 1600s. They discovered the Kansas nation living along the Kansas River, and Osages along the Osage or Marais des Cygnes River. The Great Osage and Little Osage nations had their villages down in what is now Linn County, Kansas. The French set up a trading post along the Osage River and traded goods for fur with the Osage. The French took these furs down river to St. Louis, and from there to New Orleans and to the European markets. The Osage would plant crops in the Spring time, then during the summer, hunt the Bison on the prairie. When the harvest time came, they would come back to their villages made of wood and bark, and reap what they had sowed. Then, in the winter, they would hunt in the hills and mountains of the Ozarks. Their country was vast, all the way north to the Kansas River, South to the Arkansas River, and East to the Mississippi River.
I never understood seeing country as a bad thing. I look at all those people packed into tiny spaces in cities and think, please stay there. More wide open spaces for me
great video man! Alot of people dont understand why we are so proud of our state. But when you see a video like this, its very eye opening. But we are a very proud people and i feel lucky to come from humble beginnings in what most consider a fly over state. That actually played a very important role in the history of our country. Thanks Man
I'm a native Kansan and I enjoyed this very much! Thank you! By the way, Wichita still features a "CowTown" in the center of the city, two blocks of a reconstructed old west town next to its old depot. My favorite part is the soddie schoolhouse.
Was born in great bend, ks almost the center of the US, I LOVE MY STATE , I AM A JAYHAWKER I live near Wichita and would like to know more about coranado coming here . I wonder if what coranado was looking for was cahokia.
mighty proud Kansan myself, nowadays living in nyc. some of my favorite Kansas contributions to society include President and General Dwight Eisenhower, Walt Chrysler of Chrysler Motors (live a few blocks of the Chrysler building, a beauty}, Boeing aircraft, civilian and military divisions, Gordon Parks, Charlie Parker, Barry Sanders, Bob Dole, James Naismith (invented game of basketball).
WOW!!! Great job. Your students did a fabulous job, as did you - their teacher. Thanks! This will be perfect to show my students. Maybe even inspire them to create something of their own. Again KUDOS.
My great grandfather moved to Kansas in the Emporia area shortly after it became a State. He came from Berks County, PA, and was of German descent. Imagine that... Marburger being German. His eventual wife was from Switzerland and was Swiss-German. My grandfather eventually came to California where my dad, and eventual I, was born. Eventually I want to get out to Emporia and do some genealogy.
Good show, however he forgot to mention the first pandemic flu outbreak in 1918 (I think that was the year) which took the lives of people all over the world (well mostly the western hemisphere). This flu, known as Swine Flu, was traced back to its very beginning at a pig farm in Kansas.
We acquired our land in 1865 during the free land act. It was originally Indian hunting ground. My sister and I are the 5th generation that's owned the same piece of property.
Want to know how to get to Pueblo if you are an Indian. From the Atlantic take the Savannah River to Quala then take the Tennessee River to the Mississippi River to the Arkansas River, follow it to the mountains where you will find Pueblo at the foot of Monarch Pass.
Ks. Has always been rallied to the Flag. % wise we’ve had some of the highest casualties since the Civil War and by the way- the 1st black troops in combatUnion Blue were Ks. Units.
I am loving the history. But you have neglected to mention that my ancestors who were Mennonite settlers brought the Turkey Red Wheat to Central Kansas. And settled in Goessel and Walton and Newton. Goessel has a museam celebrating this history. Thank you!
Every state should have it’s own history represented, since I’m Puerto Rican and still plan on living here for the rest of my life, the history here is sacred to me, so many people wander off and just don’t care but I’m afraid this history will be revisioned by strangers the same way that it happened to Hawaii.
Hold up! Hold up! Yo-yo-yo-yo-YO! Ima letch u finish, but "Leftoverture" was the greatest album of all time! OF ALL TIIIIMMMME! Carry on, my wayward son.✌🖖
Fun fact: Kansas is the only state in the US that was denied statehood. Twice! It was before the civil war when both the pro slave and anti slave people petitioned the government to grant them to be either a free state or slave state and they were rejected twice.
Very Good Job. Low farm prices in Kansas caused significant farm movements in 1920's, 1960's and 1980's. So, Kansas has been a dominant farm protest state even after the Populist and Progressive Movements. Also, it is not so peaceful in Kansas now, partly due to the cultural divide in the country and the current Governor's economic experiment which seems to be failing.
Excellent “A” as always Mr Beat. Although, I was surprised that you had no negatives about “Jayhawkers” , perhaps I was confused ? Nevertheless, my daughter was stranded in Fort Hays for a couple of days with an fuel pump issue... and the folks could not of been nicer! Thanks for the post 👌
Fun. I would have added that some of the first explorers got lost in the tall grass because it was so tall they couldn't see each other on horseback. Though you might need to fact check that
Best Video EVER ! I was stationed at Ft. Riley in the early 80's & fell in love with Junction City. Wonderful State ! Also, all your video's are funny as all get out Mr. Beat.
I had a girlfriend back in the 00's that lived in Pittsburg. She grew up in Altamont. She told me that Kansas history was part of the curriculum in schools. I think that's neat. I know we didn't learn much about California when I was growing up. I kinda like Salina the best. They pronounce it wrong, tho.
Yeah, may be a happy and peaceful place to live for the most part. But you'll be hard pressed to be anything but depressed during our horrid, dry, sub 0 degree winter's after being spoiled by our hot, humid, above 100 degree summers.
My family have been residents of Kansas since the 1800s my mom comes from a white family that own a farm in Westphalia Kansas it was founded around 1886. I don’t know why my moms family came here but our family lived in poverty until limabeans price skyrocketed and my grandpa sold all his stock and soon after made a career in education. On my dads side is a little confusing. My biological grandparents are unknown to me or my family because my dad was adopted. And to my knowledge there weren’t extensive records of who the parents were back when he was up for adoption. I don’t know what ethnicity he actually is but his skin is extremely tan. Me and my sister got his hair and skin tone aswell. Anyways the family that adopted my dad are German. Last name is Habiger. My grandfather served in Vietnam and was awarded the bronze star as well. I don’t know why his family came here tho.
Brown v. Board of Education. Yeah, and a subsequent Supreme Court ruling made de jure segregation legal, which is why MidWestern cities suddenly lost populations, even though the metropolitan area did not. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milliken_v._Bradley

Oh whoops that was suppose to be on the other comment.
LegendOfSquanto Oh! I didn't even know about that. Shows how hip I am :)
+Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel I was thinking the same thing and told my sister that she will learn more in this sixteen minute video than we ever learned in Kansas History! This is great and it's also full of students' humor! I love this!
***** Thanks a lot! :)
My Great Great Grandfather wrote the music to Kansas state song Home Home on the range.
Kansas is an amazing state. I always feel like nobody has even heard of Kansas but yet it has such a rich history.
@1973 thunderbirds yes
Hello from Wellington, Kansas! I spent my childhood summers growing up in Wichita, and my friends online are confused on why I love Kansas so much. Simply put, my life is here. It's a much more beautiful place than people give it credit for.
btw Wilt Chamberlain, who some consider to be the greatest basketball player of all time, played his college years at Kansas.
thank you Mr. Beat!! My daughter and I just enjoyed this for a 1st grade report on Kansas. Very informative and very well edited. Thumbs up!!
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching. I'm so glad it helped!

I'm going to college in Ohio after living in Kansas my whole life and this really helps with homesickness. Thank you 💖
I feel you, I went to Alaska and after a week I missed home so bad I was getting nauseous. I was so happy when I got back to Kansas
Coronado - for whom Coronado Heights near my hometown of Salina is named.
Cheers from Lawrence, Kansas.
I live an hour north of Lawrence! Rock Chalk!
I'm a native Kansan and I enjoyed this very much! Thank you! By the way, Wichita still features a "CowTown" in the center of the city, two blocks of a reconstructed old west town next to its old depot. My favorite part is the soddie schoolhouse.
Ahhh! Kansas! One of the best places to live if you don't like bumping shoulders with everyone. We like our space here!
Kansas is my home state too! We traced my ancestors on the family tree and they all moved there in the mid 1850’s
Well get the Kansas flag as your profile pic then. ;D
@@iammrbeat I got you !
I am also from Kansas State

Love my home state and as I tell everyone from coast to coast. It's many things but it's certainly not boring.
mighty proud Kansan myself, nowadays living in nyc. some of my favorite Kansas contributions to society include President and General Dwight Eisenhower, Walt Chrysler of Chrysler Motors (live a few blocks of the Chrysler building, a beauty}, Boeing aircraft, civilian and military divisions, Gordon Parks, Charlie Parker, Barry Sanders, Bob Dole, James Naismith (invented game of basketball).
I'm also from Kansas. I live in Hickock, Grant County in the south part of the state if ya know where that is.
Yes I do. That is awesome. Maybe we can meet up some time.
I'm also in Kansas but in Wichita
I'm from Lawrence, Ks and a proud Kansan. Now I live in Colorado for my job.

WOW!!! Great job. Your students did a fabulous job, as did you - their teacher. Thanks! This will be perfect to show my students. Maybe even inspire them to create something of their own. Again KUDOS.
+Judy Desetti Thanks for the kind words, Judy. That means a lot. :)

Check out the Sweet Granada when you visit Emporia!
I'd rather live in Emporia than in any city in the People's Republic of California.

That’s a theory but still debatable..
It is debated and it was called the Spanish Flu (erroneously).
Honestly, more than I thought I would have
oh shit it's mr. beat....from one Kansas boy to another i love the history and glad i came upon this
We acquired our land in 1865 during the free land act. It was originally Indian hunting ground. My sister and I are the 5th generation that's owned the same piece of property.
Well done; ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK; Yet I do have one question - WHERE WAS IKE (a former 5 star general in WWII and president of the US)?
Kansas is the best state in the us.
Okay maybe I’m exaggerating, since I’m not even from Kansas
You gave us Martina McBride and one of the best prog rock bands of all time, so, thanks!

For the outsiders info, God rested on the 7th day in the Flint Hills of Kansas.

This is so good!! I’m a native Kansan myself! 🖤
My relatives came from Kansas. Delker I believe. I think it was originally Delkener and means swampland. I may be wrong
They lived a hard life, but they sure were badass.
Kansas is interesting because of the merchants who made them a grey area of the confedies around it.
Very informative!Thanks
Pretty neat, I was born in Kansas but I grew up and still live in Texas. I’ve always been interested in the history of my long lost home. Thanks!

Kansas is a generic dark hole of boredom. Every time I am there I can wait to leave.
