I still can't believe they deleted this!!! This shows so much of the Phantom!
I'm so upset they didn't put this in the 2004 film. It links in with the tune at the very end of the movie when Raoul notices the beautiful still-fresh rose at Christine’s grave.
I was thinking that too. I just watched it again for the first time in a while
nezuko chan, yea.
3 guesses who left it there.
It’s also the same tune that plays when he looks at the ring during the masquerade, and to the song in the end credits “Learn to Be Lonely”
This should've been in the movie. :/
And even if they didn't want the scene, still, these lyrics are much better than Learn to be Lonely, this could've been in the end credits. :(
@A Runner I mean, yes, the melody is in there, and a version with different lyrics plays during the end credits. I know. I was saying this version of the song should have been in there instead.
I agree, the lyrics are much better than Learn to be Lonely.
Oh my god. this song is sooo sad and at the same time so beautiful. well done, gerry butler! he is the most amazing phantom!
I absolutely love Gerard Butler’s Phantom! His Phantom is better looking than the Phantom from The Musical this Movie is based on!
私も全く同じ気持ちです。
@@kissho888, we all have feeling!
I agree because I always imagine him as the phantom protecting me from my abused mother who chooses drinking and partying and love in my sister over me
@@BrodeyRodgerWilson-le4ey,🌹🌹🌹🌹
this changes the entire movie. massive character analysis for Phantom! it should have stayed in!
This broke my heart, why did they take this out? Poor guy needs a hug!
They deleted because there wasn't an apropriate scene they could show it, but i agree, this song is so sad an it shows poor Erik's feelings... he deserves so much more than a hug. He deserves feel genuine love, as a good normal man he IS, he deserves to be heard, loved and accepted ❤❤
@@la_esmeralda444 but he murdered inocent people ;-; he is mad.
@@funereacovarasa oh my! He's mad! Ooh oh! Of course, a man who harrassed poor girls (cof cof Joseph Buquet cof cof) was inocent, and an arrogant narcisist such as Piangi was such a kind-heart person!
And for sure, a man who did everything possible for his beloved and even still let her go with another man, sacrificed his own happiness and dreams is evil and mad, because he's a tragic outcasts with a deformed face, of course. People are only good when they're beautiful and perfect, am i wrong? Great review of Erik's character, my lady!👏👏👏👏
@@funereacovarasa comments like this are the reason why i hate the internet, specially 50% of the Phantom of the Opera "fans"
ok she’s got a point. yeah i feel terrible for him and i want literally nothing more than to hug him. but he let his loneliness which turned bitterness which turned to hatred. he has every right to be mad at whoever did what they did to him, but killing people took it way too far. yeah, everyone would’ve reacted that way and no, they shouldn’t have, it was rude and judgmental and harsh, but he shouldn’t have killed them
MY HEART IS HURTING HOW DARE THEY NOT KEEP THIS IN THE FILM THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
This should be part of the musical and it would look great with this scene
They should have kept this song in the movie I think it would have gone well with the ending right after Christine left with Raul because it's like the Phantom is looking back at his moments with Christine and realizing that Christine has always cared for him and that he says that she saw my loneliness shared in my emptiness I just feel that this scene could have fit perfectly with right after she left with Raul because to me this is like a looking back at Time song
Actually this takes places before "point of no return" you see that he sits down in the chair and he places his rose on her picture in front of the miniature set that he eventually lites on fire in the film!
When he is saying "No one but her" He is saying that nobody listened to him but Christine.
"No one would listen, no one but her."
Yea
"Heard as the outcast hears".
He just needed someone to love him, everybody does.
Gerard sings this song absolutely beautifully! One of my favorite songs from Phantom of The Opera !
I never thought he could sing so beautiful he is Multitalented handsome man
I'd love to know what moron deleted this scene. I wonder if they'll ever release a DVD with this added back. So beautiful and so heartbreaking.
Those 4 people who disliked are the Raouls who are jealous of how mich Erik loves Christine
my favorite movie
Actually, one of them was Raoul who only sees the serial killer side of the Phantom, one of them was Madame Giry because Erik didn't give her any credit for helping him escape, one of them was the ringleader of the freak show he grew up in because all they see is that the Phantom leaving cost the freak show a lot of money, and the final one was the Phantom himself because he didn't want others to know about his past.
To me there is no other phantom but Gerard.
I like how on the table proped against the stage is the Red Death mask he wears later on along with the red cloak over the chair.
Later on? Do you know when in the story this takes place?
@@Luna-bo6sf I do. It takes place right before the performance of “Don Juan Triumphant.”
I've been watching this movie for like 10 years and I've never heard this song before. They should've keep it in the movie cause this is amazing
My heart broke so much when I heard this song! Poor Erik! 😭💔
This scene is so touching! I can't believe they left this out!
I feel as lonely as this guy
this song is so beautiful, especially sung by Gerard Butler!! i cry avery time i hear it. Oh why why did Christine go with stupid raoul?? I know she was scared, but the phantom loved so much it turned into obsessiveness (sp?) -sob-
personally i would’ve gone with the phantom. my aunt made an excellent point the other day, she said “he loved christine so much that he let her go because that’s what she wanted.” he does have morals and he really does love her. phantom for the win !!!!!!
So true
he kidnaps her, throws her to the ground for taking off his mask, manipulates her into feeling bad for him and murders several people. he never loved her, he loved having something to possess, something to control. the moment of compassion at the end when he lets Christine and Raul go is because he finally has realized the fatal mistakes he's made, that was when he truly fell in love with her, and he knew what was best for her was not him, so he let her go. but we shouldn't praise this one moment of self realization and kindness. this shouldn't be a good enough reason to want Christine to end up with him. the decisions he makes leading up to his act of mercy shouldn't be overlooked.
@@thatARTISTICguyYeah, I read this and was like "What the fuck?" 😂
OH, HELL YES!! Raoul had NO SHOT. ❤️
I think The Phantom did love her but In An obsessive and controlling Way and eventually He realized that that was no Live For Both of them but he Never forgot her but I think we shouldn't Forget Who is the real Villain Here that is the cruelty of Society against everyone that is Different than them
omg he rules my heart these days! This one makes you cry ='D
Despite be a psychopath, he truly was an artist. He could sing, draw, writes music, and perform.
he is NOT a psychopath! he is just a tragic victim of horrific circumstances! he loved one woman Christine he loved only her, he tragically dies in the end of the novel. he was overcome by jealously and rage. yes he did bad things but he only did that to protect himself. He is not a "monster" the real monster of the story are those who will never learn to love anything that is Different than ones own skin. this story takes place in the 1870, if you were born deformed you back then were considered a monster! "compassion" is an ugly world back then. Im a woman and you dont treat people who are in pain like ERIK!
But he’s a genius
Madame Giry: He's an architect and designer, he's a composer and a magician! A genius, monsieur!
Monsters are never born, they are made.
I wish they did not delete this it had so much meaning, and passion and it hits home to all of everyone that felt like an outcast.
As handsome as Raoul is, I would have chosen to be with the phantom still.
Lol yeah Patrick has the looks of raoul but phantom is the bomb!!

I looooove Erik so much and this video made me cry I saw it a lot before but soon I just stopped I heard it again For the first time in 2021 and I just remembered what this song meant to me
I love that you upload this in a better quality than the official Phantom Of The Opera channel
Release a "director's cut" & put this scene & song back in!! I'll buy!!
I'd probs put it after music of the night when Christine is sleeping cause he's in the same clothes. Or it could be when he's returned Christine.
For a guy who took on a role known for singing and isn't known for it, Gerard Butler did a solid job as the Phantom. I still prefer the stage version but the film version isn't half bad.
Honestly, Gerard is my favorite phantom. I love this version of this music and Also Emmy is my fav Christine. Before you think I’m crazy, they did such a good job bringing this to the live screen and making me feel something, sure, I think ramin and the other phantoms were more trained (same with the Christines) but I prefer the acting here. I cry every time at this movie and it really makes me feel something. Gerard as Erik gave him emotion and depth, and I think that the vocals are good as is, people get mad because since he lives in a opera house he should be an opera singer, but he just lives there and isn’t an opera singer, so why should his voice have to sound like one? I think the only one that makes more sense as an opera singer is Christine because she did preform, but she also learned from someone who wasn’t an opera singer. And Raoul also doesn’t need to be one (realistically, that is) The film version honestly did a pretty solid job at capturing the 1980s version.
@@gwynn2165 I feel like people are grasping at straws and trying to look for reasons to hate on Gerik. The idea that he's this "great teacher" is kind of silly....like who are his other students?? He's using "teacher" as a way to groom Christine so that he can control her and make her his. He's really more of a composer than a 'teacher," but he did do a good job of training Christine (which shows that he can certainly teach and help others).
Another thing, I've had singing teachers that were not particularly "great." They weren't bad singers, but none of them were "great" as if they should be on stage. If they were great they would be professional singers and not teachers.
@@felixthecat2786 Okay, but ever since the book, he's been literally the greatest singer to ever live. He's multi-talented to a crazy extent and everyone would absolutely love him if only it weren't for his deformity. That's why it's so impactful and to strip that away, it kinda makes his reasons for being so horrible less easy to sympathize with. Especially when in this movie, his deformities look like a burn rather than something that would scare everyone to the extent it does. And to be clear, I still think this movie's fine and I like Gerard Butler as an actor. I just don't think his casting in this role specifically was the best decision
@@felixthecat2786 this movie is musical, but ofc that backstory exists… he not become her teacher to control her , rather, he was enchanted by her voice when she sang in secret so that no one could hear her, and that's why he wanted to help her because he saw the potential in her, and there is also an explanation why he didn't have any other students, he didn’t want to have students until the day when he heard christine
Bruh the fact that this is 17 years ago...
Damn you Andy for taking out this song
This is the melody that plays after Why So Silent, when Erik looks at Chriatine and they share this moment..until he breaks it and goes "your chains are still mine, you belong to me!"

No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears.
Shamed into solitude
Shunned by the multitude
I learned to listen
In my dark, my heart heard music.
I longed to teach the world
Rise up and reach the world
No one would listen
I alone could hear the music
Then at last, a voice in the gloom
Seemed to cry "I hear you;
I hear your fears,
Your torment and your tears."
She saw my loneliness
Shared in my emptiness
No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears
No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears...
thank you for the lyrics
“No One Would Listen”
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Charles Hart
Performed by Gerard Butler
©️2004 The Really Useful Group
The only thing that’s missing is the real orchestra backing him up.
I just don't know why they cut this. It's so good.
@@SOSOEMY99 agree 😥
I don't care what anyone says. I would've stayed with him down below the opera house. Though I don't praise some of the choices he made, I don't believe he was evil. He wasn't a villain. He was a misunderstood, lonely, broken soul who latched onto the first bit of light he could find. That light being Christine. A girl who had so much love, kindness, and compassion in her heart, and he hoped she would have enough for him as well.
I've listened to my love emptiness and loneliness and he hurt it me the most in my whole life......I loved him with all my heart. He was the first love of my life. I miss him a lot. The relationship was toxic...I realized after 3 years...I had to run away to keep myself safe and protect my heart. I am praying for him.

they totally should! it needed to be in there, it shows that he's really tourtured by the world. i'm kinda irratated that it wasn't in there...
I wish this song wasn't exclusive to this. It fits the stage musical to perfection.
Aww, poor baby!
I had the DVD. How did I miss this deleted scene?! I always LOVED the music but the lyrics were too hopeless. This at least gives a story about the phantom. Came at the right time though. I'm planning my wedding next year and it's going to be POTO themed ❤️
I really liked this song and I never knew why they cut it out. I think maybe it gets us to know the Phantom a little too much and takes away his mystique.
Everyone hates on Gerard but it was this movie that got me into musical theatre 😍😍
Everyone hated him for not being a professional singer but I truly believe they picked a perfect actor. Gerard shows so much passion as the phantom through out the film. He may not have the best voice but still is so passionate
@Mcmessilove_37 I don't know what they means. He has amazing voice
Sir Webber told himself that he didn't care Butler is not a trained singer. He said what is important in the movie is to convey the feelings in a different way, and the emotions it evokes.
Cinema and musical theater are different.
This is just heart breaking...
If it’s so heartbreaking, then why did you leave him?
@@darthkurland We all do have our regrets.

This would have been a GREAT addition to the already great musical.
The question is where would it fit within the context of the show?

Best song ever ❤❤❤❤❤
THIS CHANGES THE ENTIRE FLIPPING MOVIE.
Ah es simplemente maravillosa 😭 de nuevo siento que la estoy viendo por primera ver 💔
i want to give him a hug:(
I think this song would have taken place right after Giry tells Raoul The Phantom's story and right before Christine goes to her father's grave. His "Red Death" costume is out, but the little Opera stage he has is set up for "Don Juan Triumphant". To me it makes the most sense for it to be there.
Needs to be at a time when he's not angry. When he gets angry, he recovers quickly when it comes to Christine. So insert it after he returns her upstairs; he realizes she understands him, since she returns his mask to preserve most of his dignity.
@@charlenest.pierre That would be a great place! Thanks.😊

Beautiful... Why did this scene got deleted?!
I agree that they should have kept this in. Actually, they did include a slightly different version at the end credits, sung by Minnie Driver.
This song is sad 😭
i think it was before the chandeler breaks because before he goes up there he sets his little set on fire and in this scene his set isn't but his figure and christines are in the scene!

Love this
I think its after he lets her go and before they come into his lair. It's a good song I wish they had left it in.
Ohhhhhhhhh that makes sense. It explains everything, including his clothing, the fact that the rose is still present, and the fact that the song is in past tense. I guess that also explains why they took it out-it implies that he put his mask & wig back on (and it also showed spares in the background) which would mean that Meg can’t find the mask and be like 😱
@@Luna-bo6sf YEAH MAN

I wish this was in the movie
@theshiy1 True, but we also see why he is the way he is in Mme. Giry's story of how she saved him from the circus. It does show more of a reason why he loves Christine so much, though.
Favorite song.
I always wondered where this would be in the movie itself, clearly after he found out Raoul and her kissed but i imagine it was the part right before the Masqurade in as we can see the play for Don Juan Triumphant is in the back but still in the process, and if you watch the scene where Erik and Christine walk up the stairs to meet, the instrumental part of this plays for a bit before he gets mad.
At this point he isn't mad at her, he believes that she is just being fooled by Raoul since he is handsome and only now noticed her both as a person and a talent.
If anyone has any thoughts when this is go ahead and comment, im actually curious.
Every one of you are right. And the people who didn't understand why Gerard was chosen, I think Lord Weber got exactly what he wanted, an actor. An actor who displayed the phantom as a passionate man. Go back and look at the scene on the rooftop as he hides and watched Christine and Raoul declare their love.
And while I'm complaining, why wasn't Patrick chosen to be in the anniversary show at Royal Albert Hall?
Just sayin
POV me the hole time ILL LISTEN, IM LISTENING RIGHT NOW
Why did they delete this scene? Now that I know about it, this the story of Phantom shown on the movie doesn't make sense and it's not the full perspective. I feel so disappointed with the movie I have beloved.
If he could sing this to Christine instead of being cruel to other people, she would stay with him because they understood eachother. He was the only person who loved her truly and cared for her career, Raoul didn't care if she sings or not, he was acting just like a jealous teenager.
Beautiful beautiful song! They should have kept it!!!! So much emotion I love it🥹💜
noooo why did they delete it it fit so perfect omg
I love it
so beatifull! *sniff sniff*
wow he's an artist
@thatARTISTICguy I understand what you are saying, but he loved Christine long before letting Raul and Christine go. He looked over her since the time she came to the opera house, he tutored her, left her gifts, protected her from the hate and harm her endured at the hands of others. Did you forget that he was cruelly whipped, abused physically, emotionally, mentally, mocked, spit on, laughed at, and publicly humiliated in a human freak circus, and shunned daily. He was labeled as a "devil child" by the circus master that profited from this and abandoned by his own mother because of his physical appearance. Society abused him, mistreated him, shunned him, and treated him like a beast of the wild. Society made him an angry, bitter, outcast and you say he is not to be forgiven because he acted out the way he did. The only love, kindness, and gentleness he was shown was from Madame and Christine, and even Christine's love was of a fickle nature .
Now, I ask you how would you feel and be if you endured all the Phantom did? To live a life hiding from the world, living alone and learning to be lonely.😢 No,my empathy is for the Phantom
🥺🥺😍❤️
Me: ‘Scuse me, Mr. Phantom, we can kinda hear you…
Erik: Yeah, well that was a soliloquy, so you’re the one who’s being rude…
I think this was edited from the movie; I don't remember hearing or seeing it, but they had it playing at some point during the film. It may have been used as background music. It's really beautiful.
I really want to know what happen to the phantome after he leave the opera house
