Yes! Valerian root is my friend. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the mid-80s after having been in pain for several years. I had no life. My doctor was reluctant to keep prescribing pain pills. I came across an article on Valerian and thought 'why not?' It didn't happen for me immediately but after a few weeks I suddenly stopped in my tracks and realized I was no longer in pain. Studies have shown that fibro and fitful sleep are connected and Valerian relaxes the central nervous system sufficiently to allow for deep sleep. My life has been forever changed by this herb.

Channie B The most effective way to take the tincture would be just to drink it straight but it might not be pleasant at all so you could add it to tea. Tinctures take a long time to prepare by the way, I think around 6 weeks of soaking for valerian.
40 years of help from Valerian. My sister introduced Valerian to me to help with menstrual cramp pain. Valerian helps with us with pain, sleep and anxiety. I could not take pain meds for broken ankle but Valerian and Kava helped me get through. I'm so thankful to see how it grows. We buy it in bulk and capsule ourselves. We will try tincture, thank you Herbal Jedi for your teaching yet entertaining videos.
I remember the first time I took Valerian to help me sleep. two tiny pieces of root in a cup of boiling water and it knocked me flat on my beak; and if I didn't have at least 8 hours to sleep I would be really groggy when it was time to wake up. Nowadays I don't react quite as strongly, but it's not something I could ever use during waking hours. it's the perfect thing to help me re-establish a normal sleeping pattern if I get out-of-sync. My husband is the same way, but with passion flower. It's interesting how we each have different responses to herbs with the same classification.

I use the commercially available valerian root capsules when I need to ride as a passenger on a car trip. My hubby's driving makes me a jumpy, nervous wreck. One capsule about 30 minutes before leaving on a trip is really helpful. It keeps me from grabbing the door handles and braking that imaginary brake pedal in the floorboard....I am not usually a nervous person - I ride a scooter in city traffic 40 miles/day with no problem, but I hate being a passenger:)
I didn't know that Valerian was considered a tonic as well. It is the one-stop herb for getting to sleep and I always was grateful for this action. The smell is fairly powerful and the Valerian tea that I opened got into my work clothes which caused some of my co-workers to complain. Too bad they don't understand what a god-send this plant for sleeplessness and anxiety. While I can appreciate its aroma - along with its healing effects - I had to triple bag the valerian in order for the smell not to get into my clothes. I found that making a tea worked pretty good but perhaps making a tincture with alcohol will have even better effects. Can't wait to see more of your videos Willard!!!
