    Creating a limited edition print using a stencil
    Shipwrecks on the Marshes (edition of 30)
    Details to follow
    30 FREE MONOPRINT GIVEAWAY
    I'm creating this limited edition print as a thank you for all the support for this channel, all 30 prints will be given away FREE to mark the milestone of achieving 30,000 subscribers for the channel. The prints will be made available from my website at a time/day yet to be decided. I want as many as possible to be able to acquire one of these prints so need to find a time that will suit the various time zones.
    In this video you can see me begin to create the monoprints, these first ones turned out a little too dark but they improved as I experimented with the composition. I will post updates and photographs as I complete all 30 monoprints, see my various social media posts and updates on the community page.
    Monoprinting booklet is now back in print and available from the website.

    This video demonstrates what I love about printmaking - even though you have used the same materials for each one , they all have their own "personalities". Thank you for continuing to teach us all.

      Glad you enjoyed it! I really like how this one developed, although the prints you see me work on in the video seemed a little too dark, as I worked on more of this series they became much more like the idea that I had in mind.

    Brilliant as always. They remind me of the wrecks off of & near the place I grew up in - a fishing town called Whitby in North Yorkshire - and in a strange kind of way, looking at these fantastic prints I find myself yearning to go back there..... Thanks as always for posting Dan ;-)

      Thanks, there must be many of these ships graveyards around the coast of the UK , I think the ones here are old fishing trawlers from the 1960's It is a very atmospheric place and not always easy to get to, I'm still hoping to film a sequence of creating a series of monoprints from this location, even working from inside one of the old wrecks.

    Dear Dan, It is always a pleasure to watch you work. Your process is simple, but inspiring to see all the different monoprints you created. I can smell the saltwater from the sea1
    Have a good week1

    This is very inspiring to me. (again). I've had a break from printing / painting. I have spent a lot of time reinstalling, rebuilding and repaing computers, for friends. A task I dislike, oh well. I'm hoping to go over to the ships graveyard again soon. I've been unable to find out how far up the marsh the tide comes. Judging by the seaweed left, I think it's right to the bank. I'll play on the safe side, picking a day when the tide table shows the tide's low. After that, I think it will be stencil printing time. I'm toying with the idea of using two colours. Mylar film looks lworth buying too. Thank you Dan.

      Hi Gordon, glad you enjoyed this demo. Iv'e been planning to post this one for a while and had hoped to go back to the shipwrecks myself to take some photos and sketch but unfortunately the weather has been horrific and made this difficult. The wrecks are impossible to reach at high tide so I'd check that for your next visit. Its a great location and is often photographed, although at least the trend for filming with drones is over. Try the mylar sheets they are excellent for creating stencils and not too expensive.

    Suberb Dan, From a simple mask you can make several monochrome monoprints. It looks like an engraving in mezzotint technique, minus the black "velvet" side, but it's faster to realize ahahah. I really love this work

      Thank you very much for your positive response to this latest demo, It is always good to know that they inspire others to experiment with the techniques and I really enjoy seeing the work that others submit for the gallery on my website. I try with each video to introduce a new idea or experiment with an unfamiliar medium, improvising when I can. Hope you have some success with this one.

    These look fantastic and your tutorials are so inspiring! Thank you so much! Can I ask how long they take to dry?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  3 роки тому

      Because the layers of paint are very thin, the prints in this demo are dry in about 30 minutes, I use the fast drying oils for these but even with regular oil paints they will dry after a day or 2.

    I would like to try this video right now, but the ordered Mylar stencil sheet is still on the way. Is there something similar I could use? Maybe Yupo-paper? Or plastic covers? Again I am looking forward to create something new. Thank you, Dan, for your inspiration, your time, and your knowledge, which you distribute freely to such a big community.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  3 роки тому +1

      I know that feeling of waiting for online orders to arrive ! You could try using the cardboard and parcel tape method that I use in some of my other videos, just cover both sides of some card with parcel tape then draw your composition directly onto this before cutting. Hope your Mylar sheets arrive soon.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  2 роки тому

      This monoprint was created with black oil paint spread onto a thin plastic transfer sheet. I have been looking for an oil based block printing ink but have not found anything suitable yet.

  • @Olhamo
    @Olhamo Рік тому +1

    these are just fabulous. but how can they be monoprints, as an edition, when each one is different? The stencil is the same, but they are all uniqely different, so, are they not technically monotypes? sorry to be pedantic, i just get myself confused with the terms. The work is so deeply engaging, and inspiring.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  Рік тому

      Sometimes I describe them as monoprints so they can be found by the UA-cam search engine., otherwise it can get confusing.

  • @johnjack5417
    @johnjack5417 3 роки тому +1

    Another question: did you refill the plastic with ink between each monoprint or did you do them all with the same ink charge from the start?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  3 роки тому +1

      Each work is created individually with fresh paint (not ink) and I sometimes use a fresh sheet of the transfer plastic. You can make 2 stencils so you could work on more than one at a time.
