This is incredible. Just watching this video I discovered more than years of going to art school. Your’s is more than skills and techniques. It is the soul of art. I’ll be keep watching your videos. Thank you!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I try to make the demos very accessible and easy to follow without the need for any expensive equipment. I think the best way to learn is to just have a go, don't worry too much about the results.
I love it, I love it, I just love it ❤️ there is no day I watch any of your videos that fails to inspire me. When I grow up, I want to be an artist like you 😀. Your fan #1 😀Gracias Dan.
What a wonderful technique. Thanks so much for sharing your talent and inspiration. I love Paul Klee and taught lessons about his art for many years to elementary-level students. They adored him and created some amazing pieces.
Thank you. I always feel that with Klee's work you can really see the joy of creativity and they have that appeal that can encourage others to try this for themselves.
Yes but the type of powder doesn't matter, it is only used to prevent the glue from sticking to the foil and you only need to use it on the first print.
It was just what I had at the time, I wanted a bit of control for this, but a bigger brush would work just as well. Also don't use your good brushes as they may be ruined by the wax from the oil stick.
@@DanTirels I understand. And the small brush creates a more interesting shading than a flat wash. I wondered if it had been intentional. I keep a few old or non artist brushes handy for experimenting or odd jobs too. Recently I got interested in monotype and monoprints and I created something similar a couple of months ago using black printing ink on small sheets of kodak paper and acrylic ink. The shapes are very similar to your piece. Edit, the one I did was on card. Using print ink and gouache. instagram.com/p/CM1e98Phu4OU89-px4sU_yblAeZmfDFKEyZhlA0/
I would clearly use a rolling pin and instead of taking the tool off, or even directly on the first page, you put the color, a paper on top and roll on it with the rolling pin.
@@DanTirels That’s good to know actually Dan, thanks. I do tend to watch art videos and just assume everyone is infinitely better than I could ever hope to be. It never occurs to me that they have to practice, and get it wrong first too.

I love the finish you got on this. Watching it emerge as you peeled up the foil was really satisfying
Very original 👍🏻
This was so much fun to watch!. I've added this to my list of things to try.
Can’t wait to try this. I’m assuming you used watercolors. Or was it acrylic?
Awesome art and awesome camera editing. So inspiring. New subscriber from Canada. 🙏🇨🇦🎨

I thought you decided it to post videos on UA-cam any longer, Dan? Glad to see you changed your mind 👍
nice technique....tfs :)
You are so welcome!
Wauu!!!! È incredibile! ❤️
You got me on the title. I was like...what the WHAT????
Fantastic technique. Is that baby powder you shook on top of the glue? What does this do to transfer the tinfoil impression to paper? Thanks.
Yes but the type of powder doesn't matter, it is only used to prevent the glue from sticking to the foil and you only need to use it on the first print.
@@DanTirels thanks Dan.
Hello, what sort of paper do you use? Thank you 😊
I work with a smooth heavyweight card 300gsm although this would also work with cartridge paper or even watercolour paper.
Why do you use a small brush to apply the paint.
It was just what I had at the time, I wanted a bit of control for this, but a bigger brush would work just as well. Also don't use your good brushes as they may be ruined by the wax from the oil stick.

Didnt Think you could do acrylics on top of Oil... what happens with the paint, in thoose places, where you might layer the acrylics on top?
It is similar to a wax resist technique. The oilstick or oilbars have a wax content but this would work with conventional oil paint.
so inventive!. How do you fix the painting after? I am not used to oil paints.
No need to fix, allow to dry for a few days.
Dan... your back!!! Hope your sabbatical was INSPIRING..
INSPIRATIONAL..
"REWARDING"...
Hope to have some new videos this month. Thanks for watching.
What is the black materiel ? Thanks
This is an oil stick or bar ( not pastels)
🙌🙌🙌
Lemme have glue gun! 🧐😍
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I would clearly use a rolling pin and instead of taking the tool off, or even directly on the first page, you put the color, a paper on top and roll on it with the rolling pin.
I think this technique has lots of variations to explore. I will try out a couple of ideas and may film a new demo of this process.
👍🙏👏👏👏
wow!
Can you indicatie what kind of materialen you used
You rub aluminium foil whit a marker.
What is this?
Do you used acrylic paint?
All details are in the description below the video
I have everything needed to attempt this technique - except talent. 🙁
Don't give up, and try not to be put off if the first results are not what you expect. I practiced this piece several times before it worked.
