Facts about King Baldwin IV:
King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, known as the "Leper King," ruled the Kingdom of Jerusalem from 1174 to 1185. He inherited the throne at a young age after his father's death. Baldwin IV was diagnosed with leprosy early in his life, which significantly influenced his reign. Despite his illness, he displayed determination and courage in defending his kingdom.
One of his notable military victories was the Battle of Montgisard in 1177, where his forces, though outnumbered, achieved a decisive triumph over Saladin's army. Throughout his reign, there were power struggles within the kingdom, particularly between the nobility and the regents, including his mother and uncle.
Baldwin IV married Sibylla of Jerusalem, but they had no children, raising concerns about the succession. His death triggered a succession crisis, eventually leading to conflicts between various claimants to the throne.
Despite the challenges he faced, Baldwin IV is remembered as a resilient ruler who defended Jerusalem during the tumultuous Crusades era. His story has been depicted in various literary and media works, highlighting his bravery and determination.

To me, this is one of the greatest performances in cinema. Though you never see his face, his voice and body language builds the character development. Not at all an easy task.
Edward Norton
I agree, such a powerful interpretation in spite of the limited means to convey expressions and feelings!
I think the greatest performance in cinema is the Roman soldier in Ben Hur, who encounters Christ.
@@waykool698 I said "one of the". Yes, I agree with your statement that it was a greatly impactful scene as well.
You have way too much time on your hands❤
Silencing everyone in the room for the king to announce something is a higher level allegiance

His character was insanely powerful in the movie. Like wtf.
He was powerful in real life.
Just a fraction of his real power in real life. He was an absolute boss, you should read up on him.

Not really. Baldwin you could say was buffed and nerfed by leprosy.

@@Morten_Storvik Yes, but the fact still remains it wasn't the raising of the arm that silenced the room. Someone had to intervene.

Is the cure to male loneliness assembling the army? I think yes
Edit: My first ever comment that reached 1k. Thanks everyone, you all really cured my loneliness 😆
I like to think that some wars were needlessly fought simply because of male loneliness and wanting that feeling of camaraderie x200000.
No ! It is simply the quest for new pussies. War is always about productivity, especially with regards to the most direct form... Reproduction, and the consequences of such needs.
That’s why I want females in my war cabinet 🙂
Perhaps but it didnt cure the loneliness of my left ear.
Of course brotherhood is extremely important for men. We bond over that
People praise Karl Urban for don't bother to remove helmet/mask during the entire of Dredd, but forget Edward Norton had done it first as the Leper King.
I'm nearly certain, Norton did not physically act the part. he only did the voice. The guy playing the leper was not Norton.
Incorrect, he was there for scene and voice, the role isn't credited to him because he wanted Baldwin's character to maintain the mystery they had@@captainnutsack8151

One of the underratest movies in history!
King Baldwin is such a good character. Every moment he is on screen is gold
Finally no stupid music and edits
I hate that we cant wear fire clothes like him in modern society

It’s the Mask That Make The Movie Crazy ‼️
kudos to the camera crew who sacrificed their modern lives and families to travel back in time to capture these events with perfect historical fidelity!
And also to Baldwin and the templars to have learnt modern English

I don't know what he did with his voice, but I remember going to see this with my sister when it was in theatres, and we both thought they had a younger guy in the costume but had Anthony Hopkins doing the voice with an accent other than his natural/usual accent. Neither of us picked up on who was truly under the mask. (My memories of the movie are otherwise a little fuzzy. As a history nerd, I knew how it would end and my sis just wanted to look at Orlando)

Its interesting. I saw this movie in theaters when it first came out, and I remember that it was a box office loss and didn't receive a great critical reception. Now here we are, 19 years later, and I see reference to this film everywhere.
Theatrical cut sucked. Watch the director’s cut.
@@abdieljove2011 I've seen the director's cut a few times. I'm just saying it's interesting that the movie itself was shunned by audiences and critics upon release 20 years ago, but is now hyped up by the younger Gen Zs.
