If you are referring to Clontarf, we ended Viking influence in Ireland with that decisive victory, lead by King Brian Boru, high King of Ireland, who died during the battle. AD 1014.
he wasn't actually killed *during* the battle but actually afterwards The Enraged Vikings sent an assassin who struck a fatal blow to the guts of Brian who according to the story - Ripped it from himself and cut the head off of said viking assassin which was sent back to where it came
There were Vikings on both sides at Clontarf and Brian Boru did not die in the battle. He was in his tent praying for victory when a Viking from the other side burst in and slew him.
Did the vikings not continue in Dublin & Belfast and other viking settlements. Then continue in the form of the gallowglass. Then 100 years later with the Norman invasion.
Of course, plenty of Irishmen were fighting alongside the Vikings against Brian Boru, as he was extremely unpopular in parts of Ireland. Nor was it the last Viking attack: in 1171 the Anglo-Normans inflicted a crushing defeat on a Viking army led by John the Wode, and a huge Irish force led by the King of Connacht.
Wait so the Irish and the Vikings teamed up to fight the Normans? Or did the Normans just defeat the Irish army and the Viking army separately but in the same area?
Brian Boru was the one of the very few men in Irish history to gain the title of "Ard Ri" High King , while he may have been unpopular in Dublin where the irish there were a bunch of viking cock suckers and in the north of Ireland where the Uí Néill where a bunch of self serving cowards , in the rest of Ireland King Brian Boru was very popular and was the hammer blow and death knell to any Viking plans to dominate the island of Ireland. He fought against Viking occupation his whole life ,he watched his people being murdered and enslaved , he lost his father, his brothers ,his nephews and cousins and friends to the Viking axe but he kept on fighting until the united Irish forces under his command (with some viking mercenaries) slaughtered and drove the Vikings and their Dublin servants into a blood red sea at the bay of Contarf. "extremely unpopular" you say ?? im an OBrien, Son of Boru and very proud .dont talk shit about my great grandfather! he is a hero and very popular in my families book!
Very good example, and yes a great battle happened just down the road from m, but not many people of the town no about it. We also had the first stone Irish castle built in Ireland in Tuam town by the high king around the same time he used Tuam as his base to deal with some Irish clans aswell as vikings but there was a very big battle back in that time frame I think so interesting stuff
Well you probably spent a lot of time and effort in making this. I will thank you . The battle. Such gentlemen the Irish, waiting patiently for the enemy to disembark, & form up before battle. No ambushes, no skirmishes no traps set. Lovely flat ground for the enemy to maneuver. Mounted infantry, Never seemed to attack the flank. Irish deserved to loose.
My da told us the story of Brian Boru when he and the boys took on Olaf "Skull Splitter" and his guys. He said that as Olaf's axe was coming down Brian who was down on the ground swing his sword. According to my dad about the time the axe split Brian's skull, Olaf lost his legs at the knees and bled out. Damn stinking horn head bastids disturbing an afternoon of imbibing for the boys.
This would seem to be a mock portrayal of the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 AD but that is not the way it turned out, The Irish led by King Brian Boru were victorious, effectively putting an end to Danish/Viking rule in Ireland. It is true that the Vikings summoned extra forces from abroad for the mega battle but were still outnumbered and thwarted by the assistance and reserve forces afforded to King Brian by other provincial kings, notably one Maolseachlan II who managed to scupper the vacated Danish ships offshore, cutting off the Danes' escape. Of course Ireland's troubles would continue with future invasions by Normans and English etc. The Battle of Clontarf, if portrayed correctly, should make a good film just as the Battle of Bannockburn did portraying the Scots, led by Robert Bruce, defeating the English.
No? Some good TV reenactments then. If no movie, perhaps it is time there was one. Got any friends in the film industry? Movies of historical battles, as well as being educational, make good entertainment.
Very interesting video, as usual. It is most probable that this sort of battle be a slogging match without much finesse. 3 points: - Historically, the Vikings were raiders and skirmishers; their results in ranged battle against organized and determined armies were not so good as legend says; for instance, in 854, they lost against the Francs near Orleans; and, finally against the Saxons at Stamford Bridge, in 1066; they lost also a decisive battle in 878 against Alfred the great; the key words are organized and determined; - There was a decisive historical battle between Irish and Vikings, at Clontarf on the 23th of April 1014; the Irish won; in fact, the Vikings were allied to some Irishmen and it is possible that there were Vikings on both sides; the casualties were tremendous on both sides; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Clontarf - In the battle you show to us, if I had been the Irish general, I would have kept the cavalry apart, on one aisle, reserving it for a flank attack when the general melee was engaged. 😀
interesting video. It was a slogging match as depicted. Brian Boru was high King. The death of Brian Boru is worth a mention. The death of Broader of Manx for killing the King was gruesome. The fleeing Vikings after the battle could not get to their ships, because of the tide. Thank you for bringing life to the event.
I enjoyed this very much , the only thing that I would've liked to see included is the battles narrating rather than reading the battle movements , but enjoyable nonetheless , thanks.

All spectacle but very little substance. And the hordes depicted here far outnumber 30,000-the size of a fairly large baseball crowd. Plus when do bowsmen fire into a a mixed melee? Talk about “friendly fire”!

WISH YOU PUT THE NARRATIVE OF VID AT THE BOTTOM, WHILST WATCHING , DON'T THINK TO LOOK AT THE TOP??? 🏴🏴
thanks for the feedback. Yes, the army size was greatly exaggerated for visual purposes and entertainment.
Increased the population of Valhalla that day they did and not a how de do for the favor. Totally uncool indeed.

The Irish people arent really people you want to fight, they will beat you 9/10 in a fair fight 😂 even the smaller guys have war in their genes.
Not enough or in fact any commentary so it’s a bit of a let down watching it.
Thanks for watching. I am trying to improve with every video. Check out my newest videos on the channel

All spectacle but very little substance. And the hordes depicted here far outnumber 30,000-the size of a fairly large baseball crowd. Plus when do bowsmen fire into a a mixed melee? Talk about “friendly fire”!
It is supposed to be a spectacle :). Thanks for the feedback
Watch out, we got an armchair historian over here!
the Irish should have been morestrategic
Well the Irish actually won the Battle of Clontarf. This is not representative of that battle.
Great brutal screenplay. Its not much different in the brutality of today. How stupid their leaders, run by Evil.
there is truth in that
eu jurava q n tinha total war de viking
Oj chlopie slabo. jesli chodzi o historie. Jesli chodzi o vikingow to 150 w porywach do 200 podbilo wiekszosc Angli.Jesli doszukac sie tam epickich bitew z okresu Ragnara to viki 80 vs jakis krolewicz angielski 160 viki wygrali.Epickie wojny. Abo sie myle,to sorka:P
Poor use of cavalry.
The cavalry was almost useless since the battle was so massive, there was no room to maneuver
@@AdituLaudisMMXXI True but the Irish could have used it in a more efective way.

Not impressed, no Irish army would let the Vikings land unopposed. They would attack as soon as the first few troops landed.
404 Octillion men
And that my friends is how Ireland was conquered by the Vikings....😐
Brian Boru defeated the Vikings in 1014... however the English lost to the Norman's in 1066 ...
