  • I know Tamnavulin. I knew what I was in for... but I still wanted to give these 'cask editions' a shot when they each came up around the £20 mark. Are any of them worth a punt?

    Thanks for reviewing these whiskies...
    ...and preventing me buying one.
Your reviews always are spot on for me to take them into account.

Great video and very useful to have a rundown of the entire range. I've only tried the Double Cask out of their current lineup (review recorded but not uploaded). It's a decent enough and pleasant whisky if you're looking for something cheap for yourself or as a gift. Those low prices are hard to ignore! Cheers!

Nice review. They do make some nice whisky. Great price

Yeah they do offer pretty good value at those prices! I'm interested to see where they take this range (more wine finishes? Rum? Cognac?) and I have my fingers crossed that they let the Fettercairn experiment continue, rolling out some non-coloured & NCF expressions from Tamnavulin - it would be a low risk range to target next.

great video as always Ben. Your notes are outstanding. Next month Octopus energy change my fixed tarriff on to their variable.... which will pretty much kill off my whisky budget each month. I will definitely take a look at that pinot noir Tamnavulin however. I see they also have white wine cask finish as well now for £22 in Tesco. Really wish however they brought out some better presented whisky (same with Jura). I have had some outstanding IB cask strength Tamnavulin over the last few years, baffles me why their own releases are soo poor in comparison.

The wife bought me a bottle of the sherry cask yesterday (I think the gift was for “not being a **** “, for a whole day :-) hahahaha, sorry... as you can possible tell, it was a light easy drinker “a little too easy, maybe” :-) I didn’t get essence of baby sick :-) glad to see you back, great job :-)

Nice to see a review of whiskies that are not a-class. Very refreshing. Would you say these types of whiskies are appropriate for the beginning of a flight?

Depending on the audience - yes. I think they would all enhance the sweetness of whatever follows, I quite like chasing these with an authentic ex-bourbon whisky as it brings out the fruits and vanilla. If you pour it for a whisky enthusiast at the beginning of the flight I would be tempted to do it blind so that you get an honest take 😉

Hi Ben. Just out of interest, it would be good to know how this line-up ranks against similarly priced competition such as the NAS Tomatin Legacy, the NAS Arran "Robert Burns" Blended Scotch or the Cutty Sark Prohibition bottling (also a Blended Scotch). I remember a couple of years back enjoying a similarly budget-priced Diageo product from Singleton of Dufftown "Tailfire" (sherry finished, 40%), which I found surprisingly excellent value for money. It was on the German market for less than 25 euros, and was enjoyable down to the last dram. Have you tried any of these? Cheers.

Superb review of the range buddy!! I always see tamnavulin as cheap and cheerful but I do have a soft spot for them to be honest.

Hi Ben, good review of the range, I got the double cask as a present a couple of years ago , ok it’s an easy sipper, a basic malt , not much else though, over ice no problem. The bottle is still half full, says it all really. In this price range I actually like the Glen Moray entry level malts , on the peated version at the moment (€19), good for the price, I’ve gotten to respect your nosing and tasting abilities , doing a great job Ben 👍💪. Slàinte Mhath .

Yeah a lot of these bottles has been shared with others, they have gone down well even with the whisky-hesitant folks 😁 When I've got Benromach's, Tamdhu's and GlenAllachie's waiting to take those Speysiders spots though... I just want them gone 😉
Glen Moray is another range I keep reaching past, I really need to make a point of picking them up as my next budget range exploration. There's more variation and the price points seem solid.
Cheers David, I appreciate the kind words 👍🥃

Thank you Ben for this great review, Tamnavulin is not a whisky that i would buy because of the chilfiltration , 40% abv only and colouring but it gives an excellent idea of what it is

No risk of FoMo here I think 😉
It is kind of exciting to see them expanding portfolio's now though, both with the Fettercairn NC and NCF expressions and here with a previously non-existent single malt range. I've got my fingers crossed that they expand the Fettercairn experiment to some Tamnavulin Cask Editions in the future. It would be a pretty low risk range to continue the test on.
      Cheers Marcel 🥃👍

Bro add water before tasting to drop alchohol to 35 because 35 +alchohol is to strong and freezing your sense.
