I'm still like a kid on Christmas morning when I'm out with a tent - especially on this one because I'd just had 2 nights in the van with the weather being pants. It's just the best feeling being out camping haha, ah man what am I like! Lol. X
Tired or tyred. 🤭 Looked a good wee spot there. I've passed the Loch a few times but never explored around there. Healthy veggy cottage pie looked nice. 🤤
I've had a good few nights round St Mary's Loch, a few in the Lingo and a couple of tent nights as well, it's a good area with lots of history. It gets really busy in the summer though and it's not a pretty sight with all the rubbish and bbq scorch marks 😡 so best to visit 'off-season'. Aye that was a great wee spot to tuck myself into, missed most of the gusts but damn it was noisy overnight! I was more tired than the tyres the next morning haha. Tea was lush, can't beat the taste of home when you're out in a tent :)
Hello Donna.. You made that look easy. Being a wild-camper and forager I have found it so hard at times like many that have taken up Wild-camping. Hill-walking is great fun as well because you never know what the weather may do. Finding somewhere where you can get out of the wind can also make it harder. Walking into what i call the unknown is good for the soul and what you see in the way of nature can be very fulfilling. Where are you going next?.. Regards Mick... Chef-on-the-Wild-side....
Hi Mick, it feels like the majority of this year has consisted of gale force winds and bitter cold whenever I've journeyed out with a tent - and this one was no exception - well, with the winds anyway, but I knew this spot would be sheltered, I've camped here before 😉 it was the weirdest sounding night though because it sounded like I was pitched next to an angry ocean! I had a couple of stray gusts rustle the tent, but apart from the noise it was a pretty relaxed and peaceful camp. This specific spot is an ancient woodland and the trees here are nearing the end of their natural lifespan, they'll have stood here for hundreds of years 💚 I love that. I'm off to Scotland on Sunday for a week up by Loch Tay. I was up there a few months ago but didn't get all the camping & hiking in that I wanted. The forecast looks glorious! Yey!! TFW and taking the time to leave a comment, atb Donna :) X
Cheers hickoco - I always try and keep things different and keep the music in tune with the vid, so that's really nice of you to comment on that. Thank you X
Great stuff Allan - good that you've got a pal to go with if you're not comfortable heading out solo 👍 My first ever wildcamp was solo so maybe that's why I like to head out alone - but I love camping with other wild campers as well & have made some great friends over the years. Which area are you headed to? What tent are you going to use? :)
@Donna Van Senior - Wild Camping heading to langlee crags and i have bought a wild country helm 1. Hopefully the helm 1 will be big enough after my trial pitch im a tad concerned
@@wallsend_wildcamper Good tent the Helm 1 - but like you I'd be concerned about the liveable size of it, I'm so used to 2P tents and having that extra space. Hope the weather stays canny for you, it can get really windy and cold up there ;)
Nice comment, thanks Neilson. Yeah I like to do things differently so I deliberately stay away from the Lakes. Don't get me wrong, the Lakes are truly stunning and one day I'll immerse myself in them. For me an exciting wild camp is pitching where maybe not that many folk have camped at before, somewhere different. Plus it was blowing an absolute hoolie so the 2 mountain height camps I had in mind would have been reckless. TFW :)
Awesome place for a camp just a shame about the weather but that's a great tent to withstand those winds and you looked right at home in your sleeping bag with good food and a couple of cans nowt like it 😀 and it's great to have a back up just in case (lingy of course 👍) enjoyable video Donna as always and a thumbs up everytime look forward to more of your road trip thanks for sharing xx 😄
I was just happy to be out with a tent in an area I knew would give me shelter from those blinking gale force winds Norman - I'd just had 2 van nights in the Galloway Forest Park but you know me, I'm a camper first and foremost & I was itching to be out in a tent - no chance I was gonna risk heading up high with the winds so this place was ideal. It was a noisy old night - it sounded like I was pitched next to the sea! I've not heard sounds like that before, it was wild.....I managed to catch a few hrs sleep in between gusts but you could tell the next morning I was a bit rough haha. TFW Norman :)
It wasn't the most relaxing sound to drift off to sleep to. It got really loud overnight, the camera mic didn't do it justice, it was like I was pitched next to a stormy ocean lol. I managed a few hrs sleep though so not too bad. TFW Kelsey :)
I think I might know how happy you are to be out camping again 🤗 Fine ripplage on that mattress alright! 😉 Great that your sheltered spot worked a treat!!
Morning Miriam - ah I was so pleased to be out that night! The winds had been ferocious for the previous 2 nights and they were canny wild here, but I knew that little corner should be sheltered from the worst and it was - apart from a few rogue gusts that hit it and lifted the underside of the tent up. It was blinking noisy overnight though, wow, never heard a noise like that, it was almost like being pitched next to a stormy sea. The one night I didn't have my earplugs 😂
Could definitely see you were itching to get out in the tent👍, looked like you found a cracking little spot, at least you were sheltered from most of them winds, it sounded wild Donna, the tent looked like it was hardly moving 👌, spot on Donna, atb Mick 👍
It's a cracking good budget tent Mick but there's no chance I'd trust it up a summit - I was beautifully sheltered where I pitched, nothing much to test the tent but a few big gusts came my way and the whole underneath of the tent lifted - I could see my gear start to levitate lol. A really noisy night but what the heck, I was just happy to be out on this one :)
Yeah the winds were mad that night - but very few actually hit the tent, so it was a weird night, it was really loud and I was listening for trees coming down, which isn't ideal for drifting off into a relaxing sleep 😂 Ah I wish I was headed to Scotland in a few weeks! You'll have an amazing time & I hope it's not too windy for you lol. The tent is a budget OEX Rakoon, I paid £69 for mine & I absolutely love it, perfect for stealthy woodland camps ;-) TFW Jeanette
The food you made on this video looked delicious. I shall send you some photos of the Island of Isla but they won't be up to your standard. Keep camping. Xx
It's one of my favourite camping meals. A tin of green lentils, celery, onion and grated carrot, thickened with gravy granules and half a veg stock cube. Perfect veggie cottage pie 😋 Looking forward to seeing your photo's - are you on Insta? I've got that many people on Insta and FB I lose track of whose who lol. TFW Ruth xx

That tent has to be my best buy of 2022 Neilo - I paid just under £70 for it and it's perfect for a woodland setting, so when I have a raised fire nearby I don't mind the smell of smoke on it and I don't have to worry about a stray ember in the wind hitting it. I'd never take it up a hill, but for camps like these it's perfect (it'll never beat the Kuiu's lol) Loved this camp after a miserable few days weather wise in D&G, it felt so good to be in a tent, sheltered from those mad winds raging down the valley and over the Loch. Tea was lush, perfect for a night like that. Cheers Neilo :)
St Mary’s Loch by the sea lol , sounded pretty wild out there Donna … just imagine being up on a summit 😂 Still you seemed to enjoy your night in the woodlands . Keeping them coming atb Dave ⛺️👍
It was blinking wild that night! And that's exactly what it sounded like, the waves on a stormy sea. It got a little bit sketchy overnight, I was wondering if anything would fall my way, but I was pretty sheltered tucked in where I was. I'd hoped to do a few bigger hills on this trip, but no chance Dave with those gales blowing as strong (Met said 50mph, gusts). TFW :)
It's a great area - some canny walks and the hills round there are stunning - plus if the cafe and the toilets next door are open it's not a bad rest & flush stop ;-) X
@@sassyshewolf2784 The 2 main parking places are at the north and south end - the south end (Tibbie Shiels) has the cafe and toilets (unsure when they open, they were both closed t'other week) My favourite place is the north end - it's an unsigned track across from a farm, you'll be able to see it clearly on any map / sat nav.
Was a bit feared for you on this one Little D with the strong winds/trees combo. Pleased you were fairly sheltered in your little spot. Can Nigel Marvin be washed??
Nigel Marvin has more natural anti-microbial properties than merino, so he should only need washed once or twice a year - as soon as I smell any whiff he's getting dunked lol.
