In 5 years of this I’ve never gotten as many pissy comments as I have about being sent The Devils by Joe Abercrombie early. Now it includes accusations that I’m afraid to give something a bad review because I don’t want to hurt my chances at review copies in the future. I will never lie or bullshit about my opinion on a book. Ever. If that ends a relationship with a publisher or author so be it. I’ll always be honest on this and will never be untruthful for perks or access. That will never change. Thanks for watching.
Don’t worry about it Mike. You earned the right to be sent early copies before anyone else because you are THAT good at what you do and your opinion holds weight and the creators know that. Those of us who have been around with you for while know how you operate and we stand by you. So please don’t stop talking about books even if they haven’t come out yet because that gets the majority of us hyped!
You've been real upfront about how you'll handle reviewing this ARC and tbh I've been nothing but happy for you and excited to hear about it. The internet has always been rich with complaints, but this current wave of pessimism, jealousy, and "tHiS rUsTlEs My JiMmIeS" is so out of pocket.
Talk on Mike! I am DEFINITELY going to pick this book up when it comes out. Glad to see such enthusiasm about literature. I will never complain about book conversation!
@@mikesbookreviews I received an early copy too. I don’t have a UA-cam channel, just a lowly librarian & I loved this new book 💕 I couldn’t put it down. 🥳Compared to many fantasy adventures it is an easy read. I loved following the characters and this is certainly a character driven book. Joe Abercrombie has done a great job once again.
Man, SO happy to see the guy who got me into Joe Abercrombie getting an early copy! Can't wait to finish the rest of First Law in time for the devils release
I just dont understand why ARCs would be dished out this early. To build hype, sure, but it could be forgotten about as it comes out in like 5 months time! Surely 1/2 months before release would make much more sense 🫣
I'm surprised the publisher let you talk about this so far from the release date. I know many reviewers wait til just before or on release day to post their thoughts so the hype doesn't slow down too soon.
I'm looking forward to this one, too. I have the audio on pre-order. I listened to the first trilogy and the three stand alones on audio, but did the last trilogy physical and opted audio because Stephen Pacey makes the audio such a memorable experience. 💜
Can't wait to read it. Won't be for ages though as you can't seem to preorder paper backs anymore, and don't really want a hardback. Such a shame new books seem to only be hardbacks for months first.
Halfway Through the second volume of First Law, totally get it regarding the strong characters, I'm more interested in the world & story in general but I'm still liking First Law a lot.
What do you think the best starting place for reading Joe Abercrombie is? Should you start with First Law or is this a good one to start with since its a stand-alone?
I listened to the audio book for first law and although I enjoyed the first and second books, the third one did not go well with me and left a bitter taste. I never liked Glokta, so the fact that he always won bothered me too much to enjoy the trilogy as a whole. Joe is a great writer and the audio book is phenomenal, I absolutely recommend it. However, his plot choices and twists are just too easy. Dont get me wrong the plot twist with Bayaz is great but there not much to it. Because of the bitter taste he left on my mind, I have not read any of his other books but maybe I could give Devils a chance as it may be similar to Before They are Hanged, which was like great sitcom for me and did not want to end it.
Book of the month: no one else can read it for 6 months. It shouldn't count as book of the month if its not available to actually read or purchase. Use some common sense please.

Keep on keeping on Mike! Super stoked for you fellow reader. I just got The Age Of Madness trilogy in the mail. I'm patiently awaiting The First Law as well as the other three stand alones. Thanks for being your most authentic self. 🙏🤘🤌 -JRoot

Maybe all the pissy comments will boost your engagement and you'll get way more views and subscribers since engagement boosts the algo?

Thank you for sharing what you can about The Devils. I’m SO excited to read it! I’m so pleased he’s kept up with the fantastic characters and humour.

Dude, every time you bring up this book I keep thinking that maybe it’s releasing early 😭
May can’t come soon enough lol
I pre-ordered the book. I'm really looking forward to reading this. Joe is amazing
Wow SUUPER early review I don’t get why we have to wait so long if the books are already printed wish this reveiw would of came out a little bit later
Looking forwards to this one!
Can't wait to read this, have it on pre order.
I'm so hyped for this book! I've already placed a pre-order, but May feels so far away!
CANNOT wait! My buddy who hasn't read First Law is hyped for this!

Love hearing about a book I can’t read for another 6 months… 😂

Wow I feel like The Devils might overtake Lonesome Dove as one of Mike's favorite books
Unlikely
I’m am soo freaking excited to read this book!
I've seen Audible posting that Steven Pacey will voice it. Really excited.
Mike, I just said I was very jealous as someone who is impatient… now you do this to me😂🤘🏼🙌🏼
Awesome , Thank You ! Favorite book tuber
What do you think the best starting place for reading Joe Abercrombie is? Should you start with First Law or is this a good one to start with since its a stand-alone?
Start with first law
First Law
Sounds interesting, I’ll be getting that book next year from ink stone books

Added to the list!
Bro it ain't fair he gets this half a year early, gimme!
What is the special edition publisher you frequetly mention, that has a waiting list? Thanks
Broken Binding
Your book for the month of Novenber 2024 was one that doesnt get released til May 2025?! 😂😂💀
@@aaaaanditsgone Exactly this. 100% agree
Never too much humor in an Abercrombie book for me! I can’t wait to read my ARC, I’m savoring the moment!😊
Is it a standalone book? Or do I need to read the First Law?
I also got an early copy and you don’t have to have read First Law first. 😊
I don’t know anything about it but if you like fantasy you might like reading the first law. Worth the read
@@LadyKestrel23 no joke the only fantasy book I have ever read is The Princess Bride. Amazing book, highly recommend if you haven’t read it.
Boooooo booooo.. 😅 I think what's annoying is we have to wait 6 months before we get to read it.
So you're..advocating for this book? 🥁 ☕️ 🤔 📖 📚 😈 👨⚖️ !
Great review! Hate you’re getting some negative comments. Hopefully it flips on release and people start talking more positively about it
Is this in the same world? Or a whole new storyline ? And hey from the other side of Texas 👋🏼
Totally not pissy about this, im more annoyed at the publisher for giv8ng arcs out like 6 month early. I wanna hear about it like 3 months out.
You chose violence. And I absolutely love it. The salt shall flow freely in this comment section 😂😂
Book of the month: no one else can read it for 6 months. It shouldn't count as book of the month if its not available to actually read or purchase. Use some common sense please.
That’s not how he does it. Book of the month is HIS favorite read that month.
Still messed up though…agreed
Man the Internet is full of babies
We get it. You got to read The Devils early 🙄
We get it. You’re jealous that you can’t. 🙄
yeah, this is like torture right now.
People are dying.@@TimGalloVids
@ yes we are! lol
He's earned the right to read books early
I loved The Devils! I can't wait for everyone to get to it!
This is just mean. Jealous.

What will you do in December when you can no longer talk about The Devils?
😂
Keep on keeping on Mike! Super stoked for you fellow reader.
I just got The Age Of Madness trilogy in the mail. I'm patiently awaiting The First Law as well as the other three stand alones.
Thanks for being your most authentic self. 🙏🤘🤌
