I was doing a job about 20 yrs ago for a drilling company who was sending equipment from Perth to a mine in West Africa... I was lucky enough to be on that loading job and walk inside the cargo area of the Antonov (AN-124) ... It was too big inside to even get your head around ... simply massive ... the plane had a crew of 14 (!!) but I'm not sure if that meant it was two crews who hot-swapped during the flight ... one funny thing - the takeoff was delayed by several hours because of some faulty plumbing... apparently their toilets weren't able to flush and it was a long and slow haul over to Africa 🙂 ... problem fixed and off she went later that night.

Thanks for the info. The cargo hold of the Antonov would be a treat to see.

Awesome catch. Love watching these old time smokers land & take off. Sadly, the AN-225 is missed terribly 😟😟. Kiwi in York, England.

Theyre still fixing up the runway that was torn apart by a Qantas jet exhaust.

I believe that has been fixed now. They were using RW03 the other day. They have a bit to go until they resurface the whole runway tho.

The Antonov makes Perth airport look like a small country airstrip. I was lucky enough to catch a brief glimpse of one parked on a taxyway waiting for Rally Australia to conclude and load cars to go somewhere else. There was apparently nowhere else on the airport to put it. The motion image in the vision I shot with a film camera jumps about. If only back then we could have had compact tools like those little cameras on a stick which can fit comfortably inside a small aircraft.

How does it compare to dimensions of a A380?

I thought that thing was destroyed in the current war. Or was it the twin? LOL.

They all look the same to me, but there was a big brother. That is the one that got destroyed I believe.

Exactly. It was the AN 225 which was destroyed (6 engines)
