100% this. Children don’t exist in a vacuum once they’re born. If I had actually been pregnant during my last scare, the father would have to leave college to get a job that covers child support, my poor mother would have had to cancel her retirement to offer free childcare so I could work, my dad would have had to delay his retirement because I would need financial help. “It takes a village” isn’t an aspiration, it’s a fact.

Can we talk about how much harder it is for someone plus size to get this kind of Healthcare? I commented on your other video about how I was denied because I was over the weight limit of their beds (360lbs). But also, Plan B isn't an option either. Then when you are pregnant and plus size your experiences are ALWAYS tainted. I lost 30lbs in my first month of pregnancy because I was so sick. I continued to lose weight until about 2 months before my due date. I was throwing up 20-30 times A DAY. And people, doctors, nurses, almost everyone was congratulating me on my weight loss, and im just worried the fetus was getting what they needed, and that I wasn't going to due in the process. The whole experience was traumatic. But my appt to have my tube's removed is this afternoon! So excited and hoping any weight related issues don't have an impact.
Dude I feel you. My doctors aren’t worried at all about my hyperemisis probably cause I’m plus size. They’ve been emphasizing how important it is I only gain 11-19 lbs if ANY, and I’m like I’m gonna eat what I CAN cause pretty much everything sounds terrible and I throw it up anyway…
I too had heard the horror stories about the pill so I got a bunch of pads and pain killers and a heating pad and took off from work but when I went through the actual abortion, it felt like I had to poop and then bye bye. All done. No pain. No Blood. So I had a really smooth experience with the pill.
Thank you for sharing your story. So many people try to push the abortions are a traumatic experience narrative. Also, as a healthcare provider, I am sick of the idea that only women who are careless and not using birth control or not using it appropriately, end up wanting abortions. I have had so many women in my office in tears, because birth control fails. Even when used correctly, birth control fails. Stop shaming women for unwanted pregnancies.
Our society needs to accept that birth control fails and therefore choosing to have intercourse is choosing to possibly have a baby. That is not an excuse for abortion, which is the killing of a human in the womb.
The reason you can't eat, drink, or even chew gum before getting general anesthesia is because, while you're under, you may accidentally breathe in some liquid from your stomach (aspirate). If your stomach contains food or drink, it means it is fuller than it would be otherwise and the more likely you are to aspirate. In the case of gum flavoring, if you aspirate even slightly, those trace amounts of flavoring can increase your risk of lung infection and pneumonia. You are allowed to have select liquids up to two hours before surgery because they usually empty from the stomach within two hours time.
I wish my 19 year old me could have watched this podcast 15 years ago. Thank you for doing this publicly and helping out so many women who are going through this right now

Typically you only want to shave a cat if they have a medical reason. Shaving can lead to skin conditions and the inability to regulate body temp. If you're able to let a cat have long hair it's best for health!
I’ve never shaved a shorthaired cat, but I used to have a long haired cat that absolutely hated being brushed. She needed to be brushed daily, but no matter how gentle I was, which brush I used or whose expert advice I took, she hated it. I started taking her for lion cuts every Spring. I live in the South and it gets really hot even though she was 100% indoors. She was suddenly a different cat. She was so much friendlier and more active. She just seemed so happy. The fur that eventually grew in, took a long time to get to the point of needing constant grooming. She wasn’t getting hairballs. I talked to 2 vets that were cat only vets. Both fully supported Lion cuts for long haired cats.
They gave you anesthesia? For my abortion in 2008 they did not offer that. I went through the whole process fully awake and felt the pain. Wow!! I am proud of how far we have come. Thank you Kelsey for sharing your story!
I’m glad you’re well! This episode reminded me of my years working at a clinic in Iowa City when I was 19. I bought all the snacks that you mentioned (as part of my job as purchaser for the clinic). So, funny story (with not so funny roots): The reason they ask for you to tell them what you're there for with surgeries is because of the history of undereducated people being used as test subjects for surgeries with no idea of what they were there to have done to them. Source: I had a hysto, and I was asked three different times, and I finally asked why they thought I didn't know.
I had to have surgery and basically every new person who came in asked what I was there for. I think it’s also a history of people not knowing exactly what a procedure entails and being upset afterwards. Also also, to prevent mix ups like operating on the wrong patient or doing the wrong limb, etc.
One of my great grandmothers died from a botched abortion. This form of healthcare needs to be accessible and affordable. It saves lives! She left 4 kids behind, one of which was under a year old. I've had two, and both times was the pill. The first time was a pretty painful experience (about the same pain level as Kelsey describes for a couple days), but I got the next one early, at like 6 weeks, and it was super smooth, just like a normal period almost. So if you're reading this comment and worried about the experience, just know it's different every time due to a lot of factors, but it isn't an inherently terrible experience.
I'm glad you had a great experience! Unfortunately, my was not, but I don't regret it one bit and I would do it again if I had to! I did not get put under and the pain medicine they gave me did nothing. It was some of the worst pain I have ever experienced. I also knew when it was over that the fetus was gone because I felt SOOOO much better! The reason I found out I was even pregnant was because I had HORRENDOUS morning sickness! It was all day long, non stop, constant nausea and vomiting. At first, I though it was the stomach flu or food poisoning but when it didn't go away after a day or 2, I got a pregnancy test. Haven't listened to it all but can kelsey say something about how politicians think etopic pregnancy can magically be moved to a different part of a woman's body
First, I want to commend you and thank you for sharing your experience. The stigma and shame is so prevalent that you sharing your experience as its happening is increadibly powerful in my opinion. When it comes to the "uuuh", I react that way and dont enjoy abortion jokes simply because of my own experience, not because I think they are wrong or shouldnt be said. For me, I had an abortion 13 years ago and I knew from the positive test that I would terminate the pregnancy (thankfully I live in Sweden so access to quality care without judgement was easy) . In my case it was because of health issues and economics, not because I didnt want a child at that point. So for me it was very sad and something I cried and mourned over even years later. Not because I believed it was a baby and not an embryo, but simply because of the potential, the dream of what could be if my situation was different. So yeah, in my case, it just hits a sore spot to hear jokes about it as a baby and not an embryo, but thats my problem and no one elses. Im so glad you have such supportive people around you that help you through with laughter and sugar :)
I love that you had a good abortion. I had shoulder surgery and the nurse offered to hold my hand. Then I was told that I was the most calm they’d seen someone whilst having a massive need stuck in my neck.
I hold hands if patients are super nervous and they want to! Gynecologist here though... Thanks for sharing your story, destigmatizing abortion as health care is so important
Kelsey: I had a good abortion Also Kelsey: I almost bled out before the procedure even started😅 Glad it all worked out though!!! Thanks for talking about it.
They don't want you to aspirate! Fastest way to get to visit the ICU. Happens all the time, even when people listen to the 'don't eat/drink' instructions 😅
I got a hysterectomy in October and the gas was UNREAL. I was bloated for weeks, and still kinda am! They pumped me full of gas so the camera could move around easier, and that night the nurse said ‘goodnight, hope you fart!’😂
If u know you don't ever want children, and are worried about the possibility of limited reproductive freedom in the area in which you live, may I suggest a little outpatient surgery? Search the term Bilateral Salpingectomy, it's quick, minimally invasive, has a small recovery window, and means you can't ever get pregnant naturally (but could through IVF). Also, reduces ovarian cancer risk. I had it done 2 years ago, best decision ever!
@@endrankluvsda4loko172um, how about you worry about your own life? if you don’t want kids, YOU don’t have sex. if the commenter doesn’t want kids, they’ll act accordingly and do what they want to do with their own body. no one cares that you don’t want them to have an abortion.
In texas you would be in jail. Land of the free is a joke. They are trying to go for the death penalty too. Its fucking crazy how the states now have a right to tell you what to do with your body.
The gas after surgery is normal. They use gas during surgery and proceedures like this to expand the area so they can see better. I had my tubes tied and same experience. My mom, who works in health care, explained it.
I know for some procedures you are allowed to have clear liquids up until like 30 minutes before your procedure- like when I had my hysterectomy the anesthesiologist and surgeon allowed it (so I was able to wake up early have a couple of glasses of water and even a diet coke- which I was surprised to see on the list of approved items), but for my wisdom teeth and colonoscopy (I get why for the colonoscopy)- nope nothing and they were BOTH scheduled for late in the afternoon. 😑 Thank you for being so open and sharing your story!
Gas is a side effect of anesthesia 💕 gas x is a great post-surgery buddy. It’s extremely painful Also Zach, I need to know you’re not serious about the food before anesthesia thing cuz you’re stressing me out 😂 Here’s what you SHOULD google lol They put a tube down your throat during surgery and your body could respond by gagging or puking up food - not a big deal BUT because you’re intubated it gets shoved into your lungs and you asphyxiate Though, the gum thing - I can low key see why day of that isn’t a big deal. Only counts if you swallow it right? They’ve let me swish and spit out water before surgery just made me promise not to swallow it
If I describe bad thing (abortion) as a generally good category it's kinda part of (healthcare) it's like it's good now! This is just lying with language, to yourself. "I didn't poop my pants, I successfully performed a natural and normal body function :D" "I made a choice about my body!" You're just ignoring the actual thing this way by replacing it with something more appealing.
@@kimwalter6341 You're doing it right now, it's medical which = not bad because it's a medical thing it's medical. It's an abortion, forcing yourself to refer to it as medical or an "abor-bor" to undermine it or appeal to normalcy doesn't change what it is, the casual/normalcy of it is the actual justification for it. What it is is what it's about and it's the casual celebration and mockery of snuffing your own children the way you'd describe a night out with friends, it's insane.

Abortions shouldn't be something you're proud of or celebrating.. you still technically killed your unborn child. @tatyanadavis1914 good point, it is very true. My sister had a baby the dad took off as soon as she told him she was pregnant. But what if the dad wants the baby and the mom doesn't, does it mean she still has right to abort ? He created the child too, it's his right to have them even if she will be the one pregnant. Or does it not matter when dad's actually want to be their and have their baby...
@Jessyroselove for the same reason that they can just walk away at any moment and we are left to continue the pregnancy, pain of birth and changing our entire life if they decide to leave, NO. My husband stopped me from getting an abortion when I was only 3 or 4 weeks. It hadn't even implanted in my uterus yet but he stopped me. Now that I'm too late, he waits to go on a work trip to tell me he thought about it and wants a divorce and for me to get an abortion. Wasted over 1 Month with bullshit. Acted like he wanted this baby. Even cried when I expressed my fears of him leaving if I can't get past what I discovered in his phone. He assured me and left anyway. Now im holding these pills in my hands and reading this paper saying not to do this if im more than 10w pregnant. Wtf do i do?!. So no. Men have NO say
She also takes medicine for her health conditions that wouldn’t be safe during pregnancy…so in her situation it may have also been partially needed, not just cuz she wanted to be child free.
Proud of you for sharing! Normalize health care!! 💜🙌🏼✨
Healthcare for whom? The terminated human or the human who made the decision for the unprotected one?
Killing fetuses is not healthcare.
Abortion is not healthcare.
I like these earlier uploads and also we Stan autonomy ❤
I love that you had a good abortion. I had shoulder surgery and the nurse offered to hold my hand. Then I was told that I was the most calm they’d seen someone whilst having a massive need stuck in my neck.
I hold hands if patients are super nervous and they want to! Gynecologist here though... Thanks for sharing your story, destigmatizing abortion as health care is so important
A gynecologist who supports termination of innocent human life. Nice, we need more of you
i need a “don’t google it” button following me around 24/7
happy youre fetus-less! so happy you have freedom and choice ❤ wishing you the best in your recovery
Sadly, the innocent human inside her had neither freedom nor choice
How do I get the book 100 effed up facts? I can’t find it for sale anywhere and I want to put money down on it immediately.
Kelsey: I had a good abortion
Also Kelsey: I almost bled out before the procedure even started😅
Glad it all worked out though!!! Thanks for talking about it.
So glad to see two happy kitties here. ❤
Gum makes a lot of foam in your stomach hence the asphyxiation/choking hazard
I havent seen Leo in ages! Great to know he's still around
I'm so glad to listen to this as someone that doesn't want kids. I'm so scared of having to get one, but I know if I ever get pregnant, I'll need one
Um, if you don't want kids maybe don't have sex?
LMFAOOO Them singing "pieces of me" in that horrific Ashlee Simpson impression about Kelsey's abortion is iconic
I so deeply appreciate you normalizing abortion and sharing your experience 💜 This podcast is so heartfelt, sweet while also so funny
Not that I had a particular attachment to "Pieces of Me", but you've officially ruined that song for me. 😂
Can women not get HIV anymore or something? It's still scary for us all I feel. It's still something to have to manage if contracted.
If you're on ozempic you have to stop the medication a week before any surgery because of how it slows your digestion and can cause asphyxiaton.
Hey girl, proud of you
In texas you would be in jail. Land of the free is a joke. They are trying to go for the death penalty too. Its fucking crazy how the states now have a right to tell you what to do with your body.
Love people sharing their abortion stories! For some people it’s not a hard choice and that’s important!
The gas after surgery is normal. They use gas during surgery and proceedures like this to expand the area so they can see better. I had my tubes tied and same experience. My mom, who works in health care, explained it.
The description of the abortion was reminiscent of me trying to vacuum up a spider in my shower yesterday.
destigmatizing abortion but ALSO farts is amazing & exactly why we love you Kelsey 💜😅
Thank you for being so open and sharing your story!
Thank you for this! Abortion is normal healthcare and I love hearing someone describe it as such.
How is terminating human life normal healthcare?
"ABORTIOOOOOOONNNN *MLG air horns*" fuckin sent me lmfao that was great
thank you for making this video feeling trapped in florida
So glad it went well! The athlete is such a keeper and I'm glad you're feeling well!
Oh wow, you’re talking about shaving actual cats! Wow, I’m dumb.
it's bad fot them and destroy there natural thermoregulation. a cat can easily overheat because of that😭
Proud of you for sharing and I love this conversation, but also.. I LOVED project hail mary!!!
Gas is a side effect of anesthesia 💕 gas x is a great post-surgery buddy. It’s extremely painful
Also Zach, I need to know you’re not serious about the food before anesthesia thing cuz you’re stressing me out 😂
Here’s what you SHOULD google lol
They put a tube down your throat during surgery and your body could respond by gagging or puking up food - not a big deal BUT because you’re intubated it gets shoved into your lungs and you asphyxiate
Though, the gum thing - I can low key see why day of that isn’t a big deal. Only counts if you swallow it right? They’ve let me swish and spit out water before surgery just made me promise not to swallow it
I hope you're healing and moving on from the experience easily with peace in your heart. Abortions are health care. 💙
Thank you for sharing your story I am so proud of you
I wish I knew someone like you 10 years ago
Thank you for sharing your story. 🖤
Abortion is healthcare! Thank you for sharing this Kelsey! And Zach, your comedy is everything !!😂
If woman’s health was cared for as well as that 🐱
If innocent human life was cared for as a whole
I am so sorry that’s not funny but omgggg the way you told the IV story has me in stitches. I can’t even imagine, I’d probably faint 🥴😮💨
Glad that you were able to ✨deletus le fetus✨ and wish this medical care was available to all women. ❤
Its PROJECT Hail Mary and that book and The Martian are so damn good. Read the books!
You swallow a lot of air while chewing gum and it interferes with ultrasound
30:37 gas is from the sedation !!
My partner and i call each other a bitch all the time but in like a fun way 😂❤ thats a funny concept
I mean regarding the paper that say no sex before, we all know Kelsey doesn’t read the instructions :P the spermicide is proof haha
Sonogram is an ultrasound...same same girl.
Love this episode, appreciate you being so honest. Can’t stop staring at your cat tho what a majestic creature
When my wife’s best friend was discussing getting an abortion with us, in front of her toddler son, we called it “the shma-shmortion” 😂
Ding dong! The cells are gone!
I am horrified…….that you shave your cats. That’s fucked up. Otherwise, so glad you are taking care of yourself 💕
The Hail Mary Project is so good!
Such a good book!
Love this! A great book to read about abortion, similar to the movie Unpregnant, is Plan A by Deb Caletti.
Judging it bad or good is not what it’s really about. We are talking about a medical procedure and there should be no judgement.
@@chunguschungus two hard to read paragraphs- because of the poor grammar and punctuation and because of the ignorant stance lol. an abortion is the definition of something medical…literally look up ‘medical definition’ and try to explain why an abortion is not medical…no one cares if you’re against abortion, just don’t get one yourself.
I'm glad my Dad got put up for adoption rather than get aborted. His mother was young
Abortions shouldn't be something you're proud of or celebrating.. you still technically killed your unborn child. I will hope more women open their eyes and actually at least have some bit of remorse. Someone won't get the option to live now along with million others because it is so normalized in this country. God help us.
Men walk away all the time. I got married, we were growing our family, as soon as I found something in his phone, he told me to get an abortion and that he wanted a divorce. That's not okay either. Walking away from the human you helped create? Very cowardly
It's a hard discussion.
(Which is also okay.)
Trigeminal Neuralgia sucks big time. I have it too and before remission I could have never dealt with pregnancy evererrrrer.
Ave, María, grátia plena,
Dóminus tecum.
Benedicta tu in muliéribus,
et benedíctus fructus ventris
tui, Iesus.
Sancta María, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
Abor abor? De fuck. Its not funny or some good time.
Personally, I believe there should be a term limit on abortion procedures. At a certain point its viable. They dream really early on too which is something that doesnt get mentioned much
Yes, in my country you can get one within the first 3 moths of pregnancy, in special cases within the first 5 months, i read at some point an article about a woman getting one in the seventh month and the child was born without an arm...also as far as im concerned the mother can also risk dying if its late in the pregnancy
In my country it's 10 weeks, later if there are severe deformities. But honestly the "honest" cut-off would be when a heartbeat is seen - 6 weeks.
There are. If a baby can live outside the womb no Dr would do an abortion.
Hope that clarifies any misunderstanding on your part
@@lindseysaunders8958 Hey Lindsey im referring to the idea of ppl advocating for abortions all the way up to nine months being something I would disagree with personally.
This is the most vile and disgusting thing I've ever heard.
why’d you listen then? no one was forcing your phone speakers to your ears for 50 minutes.
Sickening.
ho
All i can say is WOW!
This is sad
This is absolutely horrific
