Incredible that Bluetooth is a killer feature here in 2024. But it actually is. I'm picking up a MVAVE just because I would love the freedom of a wireless MIDI keyboard.
For anyone who's looking for configurate the SMK for your daw just press "BT and "MCP" buttons at the same time, and then the correct blue pad depending on your DAW: 01 - Ableton 02 - Fl Studio 03 - Cubase 04 - Logic Pro 05 - Bitwig 06 - Studio One 07 - Reason 08 - Garage Band
Ive been thinking about grabbing one of these just to check it out, and im feeling a lot more inclined now. Its not perfect, but for use with my phone, it seems pretty good. Certainly good enough for jamming and idea generation when im not in the home studio. Thanks man.

I kinda of agree with your point, but the minilab 3 is actually amazing in its own way, they aren´t trying anymore to directly compete with akai and I like that

Hey thanks for the video. I have successfully paired it with my Mac. Unfortunately I cannot get the MidiSuite software to recognise my device (wired DAW control doesn’t really work either). Also, I have no idea how to connect it to my iPad now that it’s paired with my Mac. Always defaults to Mac connection. Long pressing the bluetooth button doesn't work. Seems like a good device if you're have a special connection with the manufacturer, not so great for the rest of us. Where can we get some reliable info on its functionality.

I’d be curious about the bt latency. Most are happy with Korg Nanokey Studio but it’s a touch too much for me so I wonder if it’s any better here. Cheers

Hi TAETRO, really great video, & so easy to follow along. can you tell me how far you can be from the M-VAVE SMK-25-25 Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller, I have seen no information on how far away & distance you can be. also can you still use the keyboard via Bluetooth & your audio Interface of choice together, so the audio output & sound of keyboard is playing via your audio interface even though your using Bluetooth connect?
Picked up one of these the other day along with an akai mk3 mini for comparison. I don't have a ton of experience with midi controllers but the mvave felt a little less sturdy than the akai. But I actually like the pads on the mvave better - they probably won't last as long as an MPC but at this price point they probably won't be the first things to fail. @taetro How did you get that "smk-25 ii daw setup up manual"? Can't seem to find it online and didn't come in the box. Does it come from the mac app you mention?
@@jeremejazz I think you can specify that by either holding the arp button and pressing one of the keys with extra options listed above or using the app which lets you change midi settings and presets which has more options.
Is there a way to do MCP control with this on iPad for Loopy Pro? I see there is a MacOS app, but is there an iOS app? If not, that would seem like a pretty major oversight for a controller that is designed for portable music production.
My minilab MKII is ageing badly compared to the new midi controllers on the market now. I think this MVAVE may have just shot to the top of my next purchase list.
I was holding back on a mpk mini play mklll for a while and found this. It may not be standalone, and the keys may not have the best feel - but the ease of Bluetooth on an iPad makes it next to standalone. Excited to have a tactical instrumental device to convey demos easily. Apps like Ableton Note and GarageBand are fun but I need buttons - the touchscreen doesn't do it for me.

mvave smk2!!! one of the reason why i did not make it to beatover 2023! (was about to buy smk1 when mvave announced smk2) waiting it to be available on PHILIPPINES and hopefully get it in time for beatover 2024 ^_^ (also, they said 32/36key version would be coming, idk when though. hopefully before i buy this 25key version)
I just love the layout of the drum pads. Two rows of 8 pads. I never understood the logic behind multiple rows of 4 pads which is just uncomfortable to use two hands for drumming. And bluetooth is just sweet.
Great review, however I do have a question. Is there any way to change the midi channel on the device? I like to use this with the Yamaha Seqtrak and changing the midi of the keyboard is a must for that....

I really like the SMK-25 II, but I am still struggling to configure my midi setup like I want it. They should make some with more keys, at least another octave, and have more of a weighted feel. The small ones are great for simple stuff but I like to play farther apart. I haven't played mine yet so I can't comment on the drum pads but I'll put them to the test when I get it. I don't like the touch strip on my Push2 - this one seems smoother from the videos, but there are low profile wheels out there that would fit below the knob height. It'd make pitch bending and vibrato/tremolo feel better. Honestly though they've got more things right than wrong, and they clearly seem committed to improvement. Excited to play the current MKll and see where they go from here. Great deal.

When it is set in scale mode and you play legato between two keys triggering the same note, does the midi note off when releasing the first key cut off the midi note from the second key pressed? The Donner DMK25 Pro does this and it is impossible to play anything legato unless you know to avoid the off keys (which makes it pointless). It would be nice to have a scale mode just use the white keys for novices and just ignore trying to keep the octaves. The Donner has a blues scale but there are 3 consecutive keys all triggering the same note! I'm curious how this all works on the MVAVE.
I answered my own question by purchasing one. The SMK II does indeed work the same way, legato notes cut off each other if you press keys triggering the same midi note. Anyhow, I did not receive the DAW setup manual, only the User manual. It would be helpful if someone could explain how to get this critical document that Taetro showed in the video.
@@ProggerforLincoln that's because in midi protocol , there're note on and note off messages for each notes pressed & released , when in scale mode , some keys shares the same notes , that's the problem you met , if you hold several same notes then release one , the note off messages will be send , all the same notes will be release , this problem is inevitable , unless midi protocol updated .
@@CORAL_WHITE Yes, I completely understand how it works. I'm hoping that some better programming could go a little bit deeper. For example, they could disable all keys not in the scale. Or they could disable all black keys and map the scale to all white keys. The solution of just duplicating notes "in key" to other keys is a flawed approach as proven by the limitations of midi note on and off and the real world usage of playing legato resulting in notes being chopped off. If the aim is to help non-musicians play in key, the current solution isn't very compelling.

yes. in the little few pages that came with it. ' change the pedal mode setting in software from Pedal to MIDI OUT. Use 5 pin wireless MIDI adapter (out to synthesizer or the like)

Would love to see a similar bluetooth pad controller, like a bluetooth Launchpad. The Launchpad is already so portable that I usually use it as my main travel MIDI keyboard, and with bluetooth that would be amazing.

I have the keyboard only smaller one. Love the chord and scale features. So much easier to make fuller souding songs.

yes. in the little few pages that came with it. ' change the pedal mode setting in software from Pedal to MIDI OUT. Use 5 pin wireless MIDI adapter (out to synthesizer or the like)

Would love to see a similar bluetooth pad controller, like a bluetooth Launchpad. The Launchpad is already so portable that I usually use it as my main travel MIDI keyboard, and with bluetooth that would be amazing.

@@Vercoquin64 I think you might be referring to the drum pad? I was looking for something with an 8x8 pad grid for playing more notes rather than just drums.

@@Vercoquin64Yeah I usually use my Launchpad in keys/scale mode to play melodies, so 4x4 isn’t enough pads for that.
Interesting! I was about to buy mk1 version, so your video came out right on time :) So far I don't see it on AMAZON in EU or even on Aliexpress... Btw. there's also a mini version (SMK-25 mini) which allows wireless connection as well (not sure if it's BT and how it works so far). Thanks for this video!

MIDI keyboards usually do not have internal sounds. They are controllers for software. There are a few exceptions like the MPK Mini Play
