- Welcome to Classics Are Better, where we work on, appreciate, and check out CARS and TRUCKS from the 1950s to the early 2000s.
Today we are checking out my newest addition, a 1968 Chevrolet Impala! My Grandparents unfortunately both passed last year and left this to my Dad who decided to pass it to me. My Great Grandmother actually chose all the options and ordered this car new from the factory back in '68! It's been in my family and only in TX its whole life. My Grandpa had added some gauges, a tach, & distributor at some point back in the day, but other than that its all original with 62,414 miles!!
Goal today is to rescue it from rotting away in its resting place & see what we have to work with. Going forward I will document getting this big beast back on the road. Last time I drove it was just around his neighborhood like 15+ years ago in high school, my Gpa would start it up every month or so in the late 00s, but I think it has been sitting under that car port and treated as a storage shelf since probably around 2014/2015 or so.
Thank you for watching, please like and subscribe, and keep on wrenching! Hope to have more videos and content soon! www.ClassicsAreBetter.com

Looks just like my 68 impala given to me by my dad, in 1975, last driven in 1976. Mine 2 door custom Teal Blue, vinyl top, 327 manual drum brakes power steering power glide, am radio.
Yours is in much better shape than mine, better storage. It is my oldest project. Yours is beautiful, I will be watching for inspiration to get mine rolling again.
Thanks for watching Mike. Wow, a 2 door with a 327 would be a mean ride! One little job at a time and she'll be back on the road. I'm trying to get my old c10 running at the moment, then I will be back onto goodies for the Impala and my Camaro, hopefully lots more soon!
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER one job at a time is right. In 19, I started planning for the Resurrection, then got retired at new years.
Late 19, made arrangements to get some of the body worked roughed out for starters, then 2020 blew up. Then I see your vid, and I went out to where it's stored, along with my 78 Malibu, 75 Monza 2+2, 79 Monza Spider coupe, and I started to update notes on step by step plan. I'll get there if I plan it step by step, It's a one family car and I got to get her back on the road. Lots of memories in that car. I'll be checking your progress. Looking for a passenger front fender. Classic are better.
@@mikef-gi2dg that is a rad collection! Glad your getting back in the wrenching groove. These old beast taken care of will probably outlast a new car lol!
That’s awesome! I pass by the GM factory everyday in Arlington to work. I can only imagine what it was like to see that in production back then.
Very cool man, close to home lol, my Dad lives in Arlington, thank you for watching! Are they still making Yukons out at that plant or something different now sir?
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER there a 68 impala 2 door for sale im interested in buying but it's in bad shape. If i buy it it's going to be a project car
My Parents had a 68 4 Door Hardtop Impala no real extra's 307 V8 2V A/C PS/PB/ roll up windows loved that thing on the highway
Ha thats basically this car, they are pretty smooth indeed, thank you for watching!
Excellent
Those original papers makes this car all the MORE
c😎😎ler!
What a piece of history!!
In my opinion, this car belongs in some industry museum.
The paperwork is wild, going through it, I even have the order form that my great Gma filled out to order the car. Going to do some mods to it, but it is so original I don't want to mess with it too bad. Definitely a survivor. Thanks again for watching!
My 1st car 81 4-door pearl blue 307 ,lots of fun 🤩
They are fun, but wow are they land tanks lol. I had parked it next to a suburban and they are the same size!
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER yes they are long,now I have a 67 Riv that is almost 18ft for a two door 👍🇺🇸
Cooper finally made an appearance 😍
was my first car gold 4 dr, my grandmom bought it brand new in 1968 for $3,600, i still have the receipt..she gave it to me in 1978!
That is awesome! My was from my Great Gma, always cool to keep a cool classic alive and in the family. Thank you for watching!
Lucky man. Love caprice classic.
Thank you Eliseo!
"What a beauty."👍
Great Rescue .. We have soft spot for 4Dr Impala down here ...Keep em' Runnin'
Thank you for watching! The sedan is definitely growing on me, hope to knock out a few projects on it this spring.
i’m 16 and inherited my grandpas 68. not a lot of power but she gets down the road
Sry about your Gpa. Good news is that it's easy to make power on a small block chevy! What motor does yours have?
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER mine has a 327
Thanks that brought back some great memories 🇺🇸
I had a blue, 2 door 68 with a 327 engine when I was in high school. It was a great car.
Nice, a two door 327 would be super mean!
Mine was from Jack Williams FT Worth TX I had it two years then my father took it over,I went into a 72 Cutlus Supreme :350 Rocket
Very cool, atleast a 72 Cutless is still a really nice ride!
Lucky man
Thanks for watching!
Well anyway,🤔 I think Cooper is cam shy.
Well, to the car, hello Mr. Impala.
Lol he would much rather play rope than watch me work in the shop! Thank you for watching!
Very nice my friend 👍🏻
Thank you 👍
Beautiful, we had a 2 door.
Very cool, they are pretty neat old rides, thank you for watching.
@CLASSICSAREBETTER I currently have a 78 Monte Carlo that I bought in 1983, still have it.
@@alejandrollamas692 that's rad you hung on to it!
Great looking car love the 68
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Will clean up real nice 👍
My first car was a 68 Impala 327 . Didn't know what I had 32 years ago. I got another this past December ; fastback with a 454/360 (originally 327). I certainly know what I have now! It sat for 1.5-2 years and so I am giving it a good go over. Goal is to have her back on the road by May 1.
Whoa a fastback with a 454 is SWEET!!! Glad you found a solid project. Hope you get it done in time to enjoy this summer. What color combo is yours?
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER Red with black interior. Bucket seats. Console powerglide TH400 transmission.
the latest dilemma is the previous owner got this beastly engine and bolted on "what fit". Short water pump. AC on passenger side. odd Alternator bracket and "made to fit" power steering pump bracket. I re-cored the radiator and reinstalled to discover all of that. Getting her back together as is to get things running well. Will order and replace the water pump, pulleys, belts and accessory brackets in the coming month. Have pretty much decided to leave the AC on passenger side (not knowing if it works yet) as is a lot of work to move and I am not fond of having the hoses all across the engine.
@@trevorclere8558 dang man, bet red and black looks slick. Sorry it opened up a whole slew of projects, par for the course on these old rides lol. At least now you can get it set up exactly how you want it, even if its unfortunately a pain. Good luck with it man, one little project at a time and you'll get it knocked out, sounds like a sweet ride!
Sweet ride!
Thanks!
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER you're doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
Hey Travis great story on all 3 videos . your grandfather would be proud of you , I've been around 68 Impalas since the early seventies
I working on a 2door Custom Impala hope to be getting it on the road by spring.
Its good to see how much you appreciate what has been in your family since 1968. I really like your buddy Cooper.
I would Never sell your Sedan its a Keeper. Best to you ,You're right Classics are better. Joe from New York
Thank you for watching and the kind words Joe! I really appreciate it man. What motor are you putting in your 2 door? I definitely think my Gpa would be happy with me keeping it. He unfortunately passed before I decided to start filming my car adventures, but he was the reason Im into Classic cars/trucks. Hope to have more Impala and Cooper videos soon! Car is just in such decent shape, it doesn't need a ton of work vs my other projects lol.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER thanks Travis please stay in touch
I have a great passion for these cars if I can help in any way contact me @ joecap58 @aol.com
You just made my day by replying thank You ! Im keeping the Impala stock with 307 i have more to history with these cars my son scratched the quarter panel on the car with his bike in 1994 and he was so upset and crying I said to him Dont worry I love you more than the car.
I will never fix the scratch His honesty in telling me was all I needed.
@@joecaporale8318 Will do! When you get yours back on the road, shoot me a pic over to ClassicsAreBetterUSA@gmail.com I would love to see it. Keep on wrenching buddy.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER ok you got it
man that's a cool car :)
Thanks!
Sweet bro ..
Thanks!
My very first car was a 327 68 Impala I bought it when I was sixten years old and I was born in 68 kinda cool that I was the same age as the car. Let me tell you that car had some get up and go. Then someone ran a red light and hit me and totaled it. Sad day.
Well a 327 version sounds awesome! Little more pep than my 307 lol, sorry to hear it got totaled out :( Thank you for watching!
Nice find. I got a 68 Fastback Impala I'm working on. I hope to get it back out on the road this coming spring.
Thanks for watching. Fastback is pretty rad, what motor you going with, how far gone is it?
It's not too bad. I'm trying to finish the floor pans currently. I think I'll just rebuild the original 327/275. You can check it out on my channel and watch the progress.
Will do, just subscribed, you have some cool toys!
Thanks a lot and thanks for subscribing.
Nice mordor but still cool. My grandma had one and my dad used to drive it to high school .
That is awesome, so cool to keep them in the family! Thank you for watching.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER your welcome love the story and the video.
thats my first car chevrolet impala 307 i by used in 1973 with 5 years old for 1.777.00 first year wento to mecanic to change oil and chek everithing never go agan to the mecanic very nice car
Very cool! Thanks for watching Eduardo.
bet it's an early 1968, built before January 1st. That's because it doesn't have shoulder belts, which were required for cars built after January 1, 1968
Good observation, I would believe it as my great Gma preordered it in '67, I have the window sheet somewhere, was approx $3800!
This is the car Sam and Dean drives on the show supernatural
Hi Albert, Im a Supernatural fan too, it is pretty close, I think theirs is technically a '67, but '67 & '68 are pretty much identical body styles. Just wish I had the trunk load out they do lol. Thanks for watching.
I just got hooked on SN. It's almost impossible to find a 4 door 1967 Impala. So I'm thinking about buying a 1968 which is a lot cheaper. But the lights in the back aren't the same as the 67.
@@dreamingcode I hear ya, great show, and amazing ride. Believe me painting mine black has crossed my mind! Comes down to a fun to care ratio. If you can cruise in a black '68 "baby" replica and be happy, your gonna save ALOT of money, but if you need to be a 100% exact your going to pay for that luxury lol. Good luck, let me know which way you go! Thank you for watching.
307 4 door with air Wow this is going to be a slow car.
Yea it definitely isn't fast, just looks cool getting there lol, thank you for watching!
Give it a bath!!
How can we improve mpg on this kind of old car with modern know how today?!
If you wanted to go modern, you could always add fuel injection, that would up your MPG and a little power. If you want to keep it old school and get a little better MPG, then just refresh all the basics, new filter, new sparkplugs and wires, exhaust, tune the carb a bit. That is really all you can do that I can think of other than regulate your right foot lol, have a good one, thank you for watching!
How much did you pay?
Hi thanks for watching, I inherited it from my Grandparents, so luckily it just cost me a tow.
Would you consider selling it?
It's a family heirloom at this point, gotta hang on to it. Thank you for watching though!
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER Absolutely understandable! :)
Well anyway, I am coming back into the process of planning a faith-based mystery-thriller novel, first a novelette to be a backstory(An Incubus Behind the Wheel), will star a '68 primer dark gray or black Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu ss as the mysterious suspect vehicle; to the main work to be titled, Mineral County, which will star either a '67 Chevy Impala fastback or a '68 Chevy Impala custom hardtop sedan as the main mysterious suspect vehicle.
In honor of election day, come November, I'm letting friends vote on Facebook for which
model of Chevy Impala would
make THAT starring role as the
mysterious, unusual suspect vehicle.🇺🇸🚗 🗳️👮🕵️
Sounds cool! I vote for the '67 Impala, little bit cooler taillights than my '68, and of course its the Supernatural car, so fits the mystery angle.
@@CLASSICSAREBETTER I hope the '68 Impala sedan gets the most votes
Wanna sell it???
I appreciate it, but this one is basically a family heirloom, going to hang on to it for awhile.
Lucky man
I am definitely thankful for being blessed, I appreciate you watching!
