12 Minute Dumbbell Deadbug AB WORKOUT at Home | Caroline Girvan

- Exactly as it states! A workout involving primarily DEADBUG variations to target and strengthen the abdominal muscles and entire core!
The dumbbells I am using for your reference are 6kg each!
The timer will be on for 40 seconds of work, with 5 seconds rest inbetween each exercise!

Why DEADBUG? It is one of my favourite exercises for how I am able to concentrate on bracing my core, apply resistance whilst resisting movement therefore improving stabilisation but also stability during dynamic movements involving the limbs! And then there is the co-ordination involved! 😉
A simple way I suggest to think about bracing the core is to imagine you are going to prepare for impact! Perhaps a sudden impact to the stomach. You would reactively and automatically brace!
Also, press that lower back into the mat throughout!! Extra focus when lowering the legs at any point!

Wow!! That was ouch 😀😀you would never think something as sedate as deadbugs could be so effective when you apply the resistance and press the back to the floor. This will be a favourite of mine to visit again and again. Lots of fun in this 😀😀

Deadbug abs and core wow!! Fantabulous. Such an innocent exercise but when all the different variations are put together in a routine by the best ever coach they become deadly!! I loved this session this morning, the holds were definitely the killer for me. ✅😊👍.
I’m so grateful for this workout today! My whole body is super sore from the last workouts. Time to practice on my Deadbugs as sometimes I find it easy so I'm thinking maybe I'm doing it wrong 🤔. Will focus on engaged core. Let's GO! 👊
Done✔️. Did this after the 30min. Constant Cardio. Getting the hang of it..made sure lower back's pressed on the mat. When it came to holds..oh wow. It hurts 😆. Then wanted to hug my knees a lot but pushed through. One of the most challenging and loved it. Going to do this again to improve.

Good morning everyone ! I’m French and I was wondering why deadbugs are actually called “deadbug”? I did not find the answer but I learnt that this exercise was introduced by a Spine researcher Stuart McGill, and according to his research , doing deadbugs rather than crunchs or sit-ups is better for core strength. It is also good for reducing back pain. ☺️

That's may be not the smartest (and not the right one) explanation, but I guess, it's called "deadbug" simply because this body position reminds actual dead bugs, which are lying on their back with lifted up limbs when they're dead😄

Wow, this has to be my favorite ab excersice! I normally struggle with on the floor ab excersices because I cannot keep my lower back pressed into the floor. However with these deadbugs, especially since it often was one leg at a time I manged to keep my lower back into to floor 😁

I have been doing this video regularly since it came out. I actually don't have back problems, but I find that with dead bugs, I am better able to keep my form correct throughout, so workouts like this actually have a really great effect on my core. Thank you!
Add on to D4 of IRON series and this was kind of a lot after an intense full body session. I can remember how strong I felt last time I did this workout, and while I'm not quite there anymore, its still cool to know that I can even move weights in this range of motion, let alone 5kg for almost all of the workout.

Ok, this is my new ‘go to’ ab routine. I love deadbug variations and altho I wanted to cry during some of the holds, it felt really effective and it’s hard but achievable for me. Thanks for doing a whole vid for weighted dead bug variations. It’s the vid I didn’t realize I needed til I found it.

Caroline manages to challenge us for 12 minutes with a basic exercise 🔝 because the continuous press that lower back into the mat is not as easy as it looks if you want to do it properly, but it was a lot of fun and I will definitely do it again. 👋🏼

I have to be careful with ab exercises since I slipped my disc twice from workouts. So my favorite ab exercise now is dead bugs. I use them to warm up and also as my main ab exercise, starting basic then adding variations. Working back to some crunches, but so far really happy with how much that one exercise strengthened my core and improved my workouts. Thanks, Caroline!
