Appreciate this video. I have an i7-4790 and a 1070 ti currently. I'm already planning to upgrade my entire PC, but not for at least a few more months. Meanwhile my 1070 ti cannot run Alan Wake 2 as it's missing the Mesh Shader capability. It also sweats when pushing higher quality settings on newer titles. So I have a 3060 ti coming that I got a good deal on (results pending) from Ebay before building my new PC. So I'll still get a performance boost in the meantime. Makes the most sense to me, even seeing that bottleneck, especially since the bottleneck issues will vary from game to game.
The question is, how then to determine what the i7-5960x is on socket 2011-3? 🤔 True, the 2011-3 platform was for enthusiasts and a limited number of professionals, the price was too high for this platform, and the performance of a multi-core system was little used. Yes, even now there are problems with this, the developers are working sucks, the optimization is lame and in programs the performance per core is still a priority.
This is all good to know... even though this was an old review. I DO have a 4790 lying around, but I don't have a motherboard for it, since I replaced it about five years ago, with a 4790k. It's good to know that it's still competent & I could conceivably revive it, although assembling all the components to make it work, (motherboard, memory, etc ) would likely be an expensive prospect. There are some other projects I could use it for. I should probably revive it, someday. It won't work for Win11, but there are other options out there.
I just upgraded from 1660 on my i5 4690 .. i thought the bottleneck would huge but its bearable and its actually giving me more fps .. i was concerned that i would build a pcie4 machine for it (eventually i will) but i m more than happy with this config results
Well said I upgraded my gt1030 to a rx580 8 gig wow can't believe all games can play now And now I have a i7 4790 coming so will be looking forward to it
Thank you for this video, I was thinking of swapping my old 290 with a 6750XT now and buying a new CPU and MOBO next year. (I have a 4770s) this video makes me think I'm making the right choice. and the point you made at 14:00 pretty much came true lol.
I recently upgraded from i7 4771 + 2070 Super to Ryzen 7 3700x + 2070 Super. Definitely getting alot more FPS now. The DDR4 makes some amount of difference of course. My question now is, What is ultimately the perfect GPU to pair with the 4770 for resale in 2022. I have RX 5700's and 5700XT's on hand but I feel like they are a bit overkill for the aging 4770. I think an RX 580 will hold it back a bit. What about 5500XT 8gb or something along the lines of 2060 or 1070 TI 8gb? If you see this, id love your opinion!
I'd suggest a 1660S, or similar (RX 6500 XT, RX 6600, 1070ti, etc.)to pair with the 4770. I have a 4790k and paired with a 980ti, it is quite good even into 2k resolution at medium settings in many games.
@@birdbirdbird8576 You have a crazy offer. i7 4770/4790 can work fine with more powerful graphics cards. Cyberpunk 2077 for ultra settings and rt medium system requirements i7-4790 and 2060
this is the combo that I have, its the best cpu for the socket so if I upgrade I would have to get a new mobo also. The only problem is that its not enough cpu to both run a recent, graphics intensive game at 60fps AND stream to twitch.
I have my 4790 shelved last year because I got a Xeon E5-2690 for dirt cheap. And I was actually considering an upgrade to a 6600xt but you made a good point about "opportunity cost". Never thought of that before. My RX-470 just runs everything fine with a few graphical tone-downs, but games like Red Dead 2 and Shadow of War look absolutely stunning nonetheless. I just have this upgrade itch every now and then even though I don't need to, given my use case. Great to have contents like these that remind me that there is still no need to spend cash unnecessarily.
Did you find it to be less of a bottleneck on the gpu I’m getting bad usage and it’s making me feel like I need to upgrade but I don’t feel like spending all that money I wou,d appreciate the help thanks mate

Good video, and I agree with your conclusions. I would like to comment about the video production in general. I find that there are way too many awkward cuts, probably from repeated takes. Makes the whole video-watching experience quite annoying. Other than that the production quality is very good.

Bro ZXTECH, I'm losing my mind working from home. Thinking of splurging abit for a new PC (im a noob x2 at PC), got about 4k to burn. Can recommend me a build please? (already got screen, mouse and kb liao)
The thing is not only do I have a 4770, I'm also really behind with the ram (DDR3), MOBO, 460w PSU, coolers, and even the case is old with only a little bit of ventilation, but since the 6600xt has low power draw and runs cool, I'm definitely gonna buy one, I'm just wondering how all these other factors would affect me. Hell, I even only have a VGA monitor.
@@ZXTech The 460W PSU is more than capable of handling the 6600XT. I have a Xeon 1241 v3 (same as i7 4790) with a 1050Ti and the whole system only draws about 130W from the wall at max load. PSU power requirements are so over the top. Unless the PSU is garbage then you may want a new one.
@@ZXTech Yeah the old MW2. I plan to upgrade the CPU/Mobo/RAM group later this year or early next year. Then, I can run the newer MW2 etc, with less issues. I just wanted to maximize my rig for now, so I can at least enjoy what I currently play.
hi zxtech, great video quality and content. the amount of technical research in your videos are really in-depth. in addition, probably can be an idea to give you some rest yet provide interesting content still; could you give a comparison between buying a system from slq and from companies like aftershock/dreamcore/etc. Given the volatility of gpu nowadays, its hard to see how much premium i am paying for system integrators and if the warranty they provide is worth it.
i feel like this video is made for me.. I have the same CPU and im looking to upgrade the gtx 1060 I have but at the same time, dont want to upgrade the whole system. Im looking at the rx 6700XT since it has more VRAM. wondering if the 1% lows will be bad or not
Yo ZXTECH, im a poly student who is just about to start his holidays and im planning to save up for my first gaming pc. Any reccomendations for a moderately priced build? (~1800) Im currently eyeing one of the ready to ship builds from AfterShock with the 3060s as they seem to be reasonably priced to me given how overpriced GPUs are everywhere else. But i also have no experience in this so yeah 😀
Yeah system integrators are pretty competitive nowadays. If you go to sim lim u might be able to scrap a 3060ti rig for that price, but that's whether u care about it enough to expend that energy
@@jrv1326 yeah ok, ill go to 6600xt because of freesync, i thinks its gonna be similar to yours... Can you tell me the best game you have and fps? Just to compare after. Thanks for the help👍
I used to play games at +60 fps with GTX 1070 and i7 4790, Apex legends was getting as high as 145 fps capped , then recently i got RX 6600XT and now some games have huge BOTTLENECK like my main game APEX LEGENDS , i get 65fps when in intense fights , i used to get +90 fps with GTX 1070 when in fights. Im selling that RX 6600XT and downgrade to RX 6500 or GTX 1080 second hand . That would be a good match for the cpu to utilize the gpu to its full potential. Buying a good GPU like RX 6600XT or RTX 3060ti is just a waste of time if u pair it with that old CPU. u will get less FPS Compared to lower end GPUS
Is it more worth to get the 6600xt over the 3060ti lets say if it is only $100sgd cheaper? And also for the cpu do you recomend going for b560+11400f or save the money and go b450+3600 since by the time i uograde which is at least 3years all the sockets would have change.
Extreme low budget gamer here. Don't play e-sports titles, just old RPGs(Final Fantasy 13) I did the opposite hoping to get a 1650(only have a small form case)to pair with my 10100(from a 4590) that cost me $600+. Now i sorta regret not getting a 3200G at roughly the same price point (+ - $50) instead. I mean, the 10100 serves its purpose in my use in light video editing, but it's all minimum settings otherwise. Wonder if the 3200G would have any improvement
Nah the 3200g wouldn't have been an improvement. I don't understand why it still gets recommended. It uses the zen+ architecture which Single core wise is weaker than Haswell. Instead of the 10100, the 3300x would've been a good idea instead
i realise this video is 2 years old. but generally, if you don't see playabel FPS even with the lowest settings in a game you want to play, than changing the graphics card might not do much. but if you can lower the settings and get a playable fps, a new gpu should be able to run the game at more acceptable settings(ex. wo upscaling). but than again, some people play games for the single player so its not about a single game.
Edited: to correct to not 4C 8T Thanks, interesting video and the result is quite surprising to me. Appreciate if I can ask ur opinion, how about if am running i5-6600k and I look forward to play games like RE Village and RDR2 on 1080p. Hopefully can achieve minimum of 60fps without ray tracing. Will I achieve similar results since i5-6600k is not a 4C 8T processor. Thanks!

@@ZXTech Yep trying hard to hold on . Although from what I recall . When I got the 4790K was also the transition where LGA2011 first had DDR4 and the following chips needed some time before prices and performance was stable . So hopefully the transition to DDR5 will be much smoother . Same goes for 1st Gen Ryzen chips being having stability issues . Just my bigger concern on that . I guess you're right . DDR3 to DDR5 definitely will be a huge jump haha
Hey, i thinking in buy an graphic card like 3060 or 6600, and i have this i7... do u think is good to use for like 1/2 years with this bottleneck, ultil ddr5 be good, an than i change my entire CPU motherboard and RAM?

When Im gaming , my gpu barely hits 50% while cpu is maxed out . However , I definitely do not recommend going DDR4 since is the end of the line for it . It will work well for the next few years but lacking in terms of upgrading . I made the mistake when going for DDR3 as it was cheaper back then . TLDR : you can go ahead and use it for another 1/2 year thats no problem at all . Just dont go spending extra for more ram or upgrade to a better mobo etc since its just a waiting game now

But I just buy this card 240 dollars and it's just wonderful rig now and I buy only this card and play many many games at minimum 60 fps in full HD in very good condition. So yes I didn't regret to give 2 or 3 years more to a computer who is from 2015 for cpu and 2017 motherboard. And I play and enjoy this experience without frustration.

Makes the most sense to me, even seeing that bottleneck, especially since the bottleneck issues will vary from game to game.
i have the same processor but im confused on what gpu to get, currently i have a gt 610 😅
The i7 4790 is not an OK CPU from the era... It is an OK CPU for 2022, but a flagship from the era... :)
Thats a good way to put it Ig
Glad you liked it!
I just upgraded from 1660 on my i5 4690 .. i thought the bottleneck would huge but its bearable and its actually giving me more fps .. i was concerned that i would build a pcie4 machine for it (eventually i will) but i m more than happy with this config results
Nice!
Well said I upgraded my gt1030 to a rx580 8 gig wow can't believe all games can play now
And now I have a i7 4790 coming so will be looking forward to it

Thank you for this video, I was thinking of swapping my old 290 with a 6750XT now and buying a new CPU and MOBO next year. (I have a 4770s) this video makes me think I'm making the right choice. and the point you made at 14:00 pretty much came true lol.
Yeah i guess I’m ethereal 😂
I have i7-5775+3060😅
I think 2060super/2070/RX5700 good for i7 4771. May be 2060/1070ti.
RX5500 and RX580 weak

Did you do the testing with just the iGPU of the i7? How much difference uplift between that with the 750ti and 6600xt?
Didn't do said testing, but the difference will no doubt be gigantic
The 750 Ti stutters at 1080p because it's only a 2GB card. That's not enough VRAM for 1080p.
Not for today standards, thats for sure!
@@ZXTech Interesting video, I enjoyed it. Cheers.

I would like to comment about the video production in general. I find that there are way too many awkward cuts, probably from repeated takes. Makes the whole video-watching experience quite annoying.

Upgrade the PSU just in case
@@ZXTech The 460W PSU is more than capable of handling the 6600XT. I have a Xeon 1241 v3 (same as i7 4790) with a 1050Ti and the whole system only draws about 130W from the wall at max load. PSU power requirements are so over the top. Unless the PSU is garbage then you may want a new one.

Older games at 1440 should be good

hi zxtech, great video quality and content. the amount of technical research in your videos are really in-depth.
in addition, probably can be an idea to give you some rest yet provide interesting content still; could you give a comparison between buying a system from slq and from companies like aftershock/dreamcore/etc. Given the volatility of gpu nowadays, its hard to see how much premium i am paying for system integrators and if the warranty they provide is worth it.
I've been thinking about how to pull that off, actually
i feel like this video is made for me.. I have the same CPU and im looking to upgrade the gtx 1060 I have but at the same time, dont want to upgrade the whole system.
Im looking at the rx 6700XT since it has more VRAM. wondering if the 1% lows will be bad or not
Is i7 4790 good with z87 motherboard with 5600xt
Yo ZXTECH, im a poly student who is just about to start his holidays and im planning to save up for my first gaming pc. Any reccomendations for a moderately priced build? But i also have no experience in this so yeah 😀
Yeah system integrators are pretty competitive nowadays. If you go to sim lim u might be able to scrap a 3060ti rig for that price, but that's whether u care about it enough to expend that energy

You're better off with the 1650... much better...
i7 4790k and Rtx 3050, good combo or bottleneck?
Not bad
Can I put the 5600XT graphics on the H81 plus asus motherboard with the i7 4790 processor?
Yes
i realise this video is 2 years old. but generally, if you don't see playabel FPS even with the lowest settings in a game you want to play, than changing the graphics card might not do much. but if you can lower the settings and get a playable fps, a new gpu should be able to run the game at more acceptable settings(ex. wo upscaling). but than again, some people play games for the single player so its not about a single game.
Wonderful video. I have subscribed.
Edited: to correct to not 4C 8T
