    Bowie played every instrument on this track except bass. Vocals, backing vocals, drums, keyboards, guitar. Bloody brilliant.

      Interesting that he didn't play bass. That seems like the easiest part of this song!

      @@christiansmith9962 I reckon he just figured Tony Visconti could play the bass part more effectively. I don't think bass was David's strongest instrument. Here's a really good interview about the recording of that LP:

      and in case you suffer from insomnia… I was looking up a picture of guy who plays John Douglas/Marquee on Mike Tyson mysteries. checking his real picture and see he was a real person. very flamboyant yet known for his boxing prowess; those rarely r on same resume. seemed to move between two countries in europe and wife divorced him prob for his penis love 😊 and b saw 90 so she went on to test drive her own god bless. he remarried as he thought more convincing than i love Vaj t-shirt but was wrong. had it annulled I would’ve denied that annulment for sole purpose that her name was elthel!! I think that’s like beard in French. I really hope this is all true. Meaning if you know, otherwise don’t rain on my Parade. He’s flamboyant and messes people up in the ring. If that was today I would pitch my marketing to them directly and say just that I would rub my phone boys in their face saying do you want to lose to this? He’s scared I get in their head and I get more competitors that be terrifying and instantly in your head.
      can I see if Tyson was effeminate and instead made a move on Holyfield and nibbled on his ear sexually that news would follow way further and faster. and Holyfield would have so much more to lose. I’m pretty sure I’m sleep talking right now. Have a great day. Everyone is crazy enough to read this so me. 🙃😉

      The pixies copy that from T-Rex. A song called The groover spells out T.R.E.X In the introduction. Cactus itself is a remodelling of get it on T-Rex on. Cactus uses the same guitar riff. Bowie's rendition of the spelling motif is more in tune with T-Rex tune the pixies version. I suspect Bowie did it as a nut to his old friend Marc.

    Will you take off your dress and send it to me?

    And a letter in your writing doesn't mean you're not dead
    Run outside in the desert heat
    Make your dress all wet and send it to me
    I miss your soup and I miss your bread
    And a letter in your writing doesn't mean you're not dead
    So spill your breakfast and drip your wine
    Just wear that dress when you're die

    I have a strong suspension from the album "Heathen than crossing to Reality than the Next Day and finally Black Star " david bowie was probably diagnosed with cancer but the beginning stage of him being sick .
    I listen to all his albums leading up to his final album
    I think he was warning us through his music he was sick. from Heathen to Black Star the lyrics and sound got darker.
    R.I.P Dave Bowie.
    thank you so much for all your talents and music
    if wasn't for " Life on Mars and Rock and Roll Suicide "
    I wouldn't have experienced your masterpieces.

    • @jgooseberry4600
      @jgooseberry4600 8 років тому +1

      You funny thing. He did Heathen and the other albums after the WOT began. They are grim, but that's got more to do with Bowie's inner running commentary on global recession and associated politics than with any narcissistic preoccupation about his own health.
      Cactus is an older song written by somebody else during pre-WOT grunge years, Bowie covered it because he probably tuned into its underlying prison and desert themes and wished to appropriate those. Sometimes Bowie just sang any old thing that popped into his head, including the lyrics and thoughts of other artists.

    • @RKevinHill1
      @RKevinHill1 8 років тому +1

      Yes, I don't see any indication that his own death was the focus on "Heathen." However, he did see immense destruction up close in the city in which he lived on 9/11, and the theme of wrestling with faith, the "problem of evil" occurs in several of the songs. I know that it's not popular to say for a lot of Bowie fans, but I think that he struggled with religious questions, and if anything of himself died on Heathen it was the possibility of belief.

    • @kaydenney851
      @kaydenney851 8 років тому +3

      he recorded Heathen in the summer before 9/11 actually. and Bowie fans have no problem with the fact that he struggled with religious questions, since he talked of it in many interviews. Word on a Wing and I would be your Slave are two songs that he has said are him exploring belief. Not to mention Loving the Alien and more

    • @mazieferreira7757
      @mazieferreira7757 8 років тому +3

      We were all shocked when he passed away, as very few people knew that he was sick. I read that he was sick for about 18 months prior to his passing, which means that he wasn't sick when he made Heathen and Reality. He may already had been sick when he made The Next Day and definitely when he made Black Star, which I can not bring myself to listen to or even buy the CD. Him not being here is way too much heartbreak and the CD will always be a gloomy reminder (not to mention that Black Star is kind of scary to me...) BTW- the song Slow Burn is about 9/11

      He is actually.
      Pointed out on several occasions how underrated the pixies were.
      He's right. The Pixies are probably the most underrated band in American music history. It's why they kinda faded away. No sales and not much radio coverage lead to their musical death..

      +gosia musik No. The original is so obscenely dirty it's flawless.
      As far as covers of this song could go though, it would be hard to better this... whether that's saying much for this cover i'm not sure. Pixies' songs should never be covered.

      LOL, i kinda have to agree with you, this is as good as a pixie cover could get, its badass, but trying to cover a pixie song is setting yourself up for disaster :)
