  • In this video we describe some install tips and tricks for the Teraflex Nebo roof rack. Jeep Wranglers do not have a lot of storage space and using a roof rack can allow for a lot of new capabilities. We wanted a low cost solution, that allowed us to carry a lot, could support a roof top tent, and which wasn't a huge thing that got in the way of our everyday use.
I paid full price for this and I am in no way associated or in any way paid by Teraflex or any of their agents.

Wow. I'm planning to start mount my Nebo today and this video came up as a welcome surprise. Thanks for the tips, especially the bits that were left out of the Teraflex install video.

42mirv. Take your time with it, would be my best suggestion. The tolerances are pretty tight for such a large awkward object. One thing I missed, is in the back end of the rails, there are two nuts that go under the rails to hold the cosmetic rear end cap. I put it all together and had two nuts and two screws left over. I will take the end caps off and put them in next time I take the roof off. Also probably the most critical thing I encountered was when you line everything up with the top off and you are securing the plastic support blocks which are under the fiberglass top, be careful and keep the large threaded rod in the center hole when tightening. What I noticed is that the rails tend to shift a little when they are being tightened down. I lined everything up with the threaded rod, checked the alignment closely by looking in the hole. Climbed under and tightened from the bottom. Then put the roof onto the Jeep. I should have checked alignment again afterward and left the large threaded rod in there during the tightening process. They shifted by like a 16th of an inch which was enough to cause major fitment issues. The top is rock solid though now. Very sturdy, though it does creak a little bit. When I take it off I will look for any wear spots I can find and try to minimize that. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Mike, how did your install go? I know the install video basically says that the tolerances are a 1/16th of an inch, but it also looks like there is some play in the plates that get mounted to the bar (hence the loose dry fit and tightening while fitted). Does that allow for a bit of error in the drilling or are you screwed if you're not dead on?

Hey nice change in the roof rack choice...seems like everyone is going with a Gobi or similar design.
Looking forward to other videos showing it being used.

Frenzy Fire, Thanks, I think I am going to make a quick part2 video on this one. I will include all of the reasons why I went with this solution and a more thorough review of this. If I can figure out my lift off procedure, I might include that too.

I personally had a gobi. Loved it.
Used it with the soft and hard top.
Easy up and down with no tools once installed with quick connects. It had a ladder. I would load 4 kayaks on the thing.
The load rating on this is much less.
Gobi install was only 1 hour.

Excellent video! I installed my Nebo rack in 2018 and it took a loooong time. However, my rack is now leaking very very bad. Has yours started leaking too? Can’t find much info out there about this. Thanks

Can you give me a quick measurement from center of rack to center or rack? I have a custom roof top. Was wanting to know if I could make this work

soundlive7 I will see if I have a tape measure with me. I’m not at home right now but I’ll try to check.

Sorry it took me so long but it is 44inches from center to center. It is 43 inches inside between the two rails. Hope this helps.

Are you able to use a footpack to put bars on this rack.

I already had a yakima roof rack system that has towers that clamp onto the side rails. Terraflex sells slats that fit between the two rails, but they are permanent and expensive. The bars I have work great, but it is an older setup. Not sure if you can still buy the towers that fit the round bars. It does work really well though. I can put them on and take them off in about 5 minutes, and they are very strong.
